APEX 2012 Fantasy - Need more Brawl players!! Updated w/ Draft info

I don't know if anyone has ever played fantasy sport but it can be quite fun...

Someone from the US is doing a similar thing w/ APEX so I decided to do an Australian version....

I will go into the specifics later this is just a post to gauge interest.

Basically it would be a simple draft style league...

Using a random number generator to decide who chooses first...

I think the ideal number of people would be 16 that way everyone gets 2 players in the 32 man bracket...

INB4 I'll just pick mango and win.... (doesn't work like that)

If you win the lottery (so you have the first draft pick) you can pick mango but have to remember that you won't be picking again until no. 32...

I will run it for both games... you get rewarded points for your players positions in singles and doubles...

Draft Procedure

After considering several different ways that the draft can be run I have decided that the following is the best way:

The draft will be run from the 3-6 of January in this thread.

I will run the draft lottery after Christmas.

Each player will have an hour to submit their pick and players will pick twice each in a different hour time slot. If a player is unable to submit their pick they will be assigned the next available highest ranked player (according to a list I will create)

So an example of how it would work:

MOCK DRAFT ORDER:

1. Dekar
2. Tibs
3. X
4. Y
..
21. Y
22. X
23.Tibs
24. Dekar

In this hypothetical situtaion Dekar won the lottery and got the top pick. Tibs is picking 2nd. Dekar picks 24th in the 2nd round and Tibs picks 23rd.

The picking schedule would look something like this:

3rd Jan 0900-1000 - Dekar
3rd Jan 1000-1100 - Tibs
3rd Jan 1100-1200 - X
3rd Jan 1200-1300 - Y
...
5th Jan 1300-1400 - Y
5th Jan 1400-1500 - X
5th Jan 1500-1600 - Tibs
5th Jan 1600-1700 - Dekar

Dekar and Tibs can submit their pick anytime within the hour either by posting in this thread or by contacting me I will check FB, G+, Twitter and Text I will then update the thread on their behalf.

Hypothetical case where Tibs cannot submit his pick because he is busy / unavailable etc...

I would assign him the next highest ranked player attending the tournament (assuming dekar picks Mango w/ the first pick) I would assign Tibs Armada and then we would move on to the next pick.

Brawl will be a similar process but at this stage it looks like people will be picking 3 players.

I think the person who wins will be someone who picks up an unproven (but high potential) European later in the draft. Someone like ICE. Will be interesting to see who takes the gamble

It is kind of hard to explain succinctly.

Basically you draft players (schoolyard style)

and you get points based on their players performance in the tournament...

The winner will be the person who earns the most points from the players they have chosen...

Once a player has been picked theycan't be chosen again (not everyone can choose mango)

So it is likely that whoever wins the draft will choose Mango as he is likely to earn them a lot of points...however they won't be picking again until the 32nd player so they may end up with Kage or HMW or someone who will earn them few points.

Similarly someone picking around the middle of draft will have to semi decent players say Kirby Kaze and Shroomed...

The fun is derived from deciding who you will choose...Will stick with a solid performer Hbox (melee) or Atomsk (Brawl) or take a gamble on a unproven but potentially very rewarding player like ICE or Leffen (Melee), Nietono (Brawl)

i.e. if mango beats falcoman3000 in round 1 he earns like 10 points, but then hax vs jman in round 4 would be like 100 points?

Cuz sometimes these big tournies do have easy brackets.

At the moment I think it will be placings it is too hard to do it based on the players that your player beats in the tournament because that would involve ranking everyone attending APEX from 1st to last. I can envision this causing some controversy.

I may expand the amount of players you can select to 3 or 4 and include pools..

2 points for making it to Round 2 and 4 points for making it to Round 3

Giving points based on how far you advance in the bracket is also I some thing I am considering, I will formalize the points process closer to the tourney (INPUT IS WELCOME!!)

My top 5 picks (note these are just suggestions and who to pick with your draft pick is entirely up to you) just to get the discussion going.

Melee

1. Armada - I put him above Mango because he is a safer option. You know he will try and it is rumoured that his brother, Aniolas, is not coming so he will likely be teaming w/ m2k
2. Mango - best player when he tries or IF he tries. Also is known for teaming with a lesser player so he can carry the team. m2k said that mango has repeatedly turned down his offers to team.
3. PP - Providing he is in good health he is a solid pick
4. HBox - Has he figured out a way to deal with Armada's young link I don't see him placing higher than 3rd...Still solid.
5. m2k - Always a lock for top 7 and should do well in teams especially if he teams w/ Armada

Melee Sleeper Picks (no particular order)

S2J - 7th at Genesis 2 and is only getting better..Recently beat Shroomed to win ownapalooza XIII
PC Chris - Has been attending tournaments and recently took out Mango (he was playing Mario) and J Man to win a tournament
Ice - Europe's 2nd best player if he makes it, he could be worth the gamble
Leffen - Europe's 3rd best player will come back to US for a 2nd time
SD - I hear he is interested in going, Americans don't know about that AUS metagame

Brawl

1. M2K - No surprise here, pretty much a lock for top 2 in both teams and singles
2. Ally - It is normally a coin toss between M2K and Ally when it comes to winning nationals
3. Gnes - Always solid is now 4th on the smashboards brawl rankings
4. Anti - Placed higher than m2k at KTAR 6, always solid
5. Atomsk - Never fails to place well

Brawl Sleeper Picks

Mr. R - Probably Europe's best player, will he be able to handle the wave of American MKs
Nientono - Japanese Olimar, supposedly better than Brood
Vinnie - ICs/GW player that has been doing extremely well lately outplaced M2K at KTAR 6

Yep we are doing teams as well, it isn't a separate draft i.e. you aren't picking a team you are still picking a player so whoever you choose for singles will be your player for teams as well...It adds a little bit of strategy to picking your players..Would you still take Mango with the first draft pick if you knew he was teaming with G$...Would you take Armada with the 2nd if he ends up teaming with his brother??? All interesting questions

Yeah the sleeper picks list could be extremely long...I tried to include some players not many would be thinking about and players that could do really well whilst going relatively low in the draft....

Man hax always has a beast performance in both singles and teams, usually cuz he teams with hbox. I'm thinking that's a safe option. And shroomed Is a sleeper aswell. He does beast, although teams idk.

Man this will be ****ing hard.

Edit: ice is a ****ing boss, I'd love to see him at genesis. Probs the closest thing to a real matchup for armada besides amsah in Europe.
