Marth is so elegant ♥

I tried to convert to Marth, Sheik, and Fox, but no matter how hard I tried to find a better character, Peach never let go of me

Hmmm.
Well I play Pichu for some reason. He's like my favorite character ever.
I tried Pika since Pichu is like a worse version of him, but it didn't feel right.
I tried to switch mains a lot, because Pichu is bad, but I always go back.
Right now I've been dual maining Pichu/fox for a couple of months, but I can't just drop Pichu and go fox all the time.
Fox is fun and good and stuff, but I love Pichu. My fox is also inconsistent and gets ***** harder than my Pichu when I have off days.

I couldn't bring myself to use characters other than Pichu in tournament for a long time though. Partially because I wanted to prove to other people (and myself) that Pichu could be good, and partially because it felt wrong. Like I didn't have as much faith in Pichu as I should have had.

Anyway, strategically, it's better to have a secondary for your uncomfortable matchups, but I don't think you really need to switch since you play a good character :/

there are fundamental things about my personality that make me a ganon main. it's not like i'm emotionally attached to what makes a ganon main, or that i'm even particularly interested in ganon or the legend of zelda series. But my existence is that of someone who would main ganon.

with that being said, i'm always trying to find a better character, cause he's not that good.

Are you narcissistic? I've always associated Ganon mains as being narcissistic.

what kind of ganon mains have you met?

i like who i am more or less, but i wouldn't call it narcissism by any stretch of the imagination.

It's been called stubborn or prideful, but I definitely believe I have something resembling an emotional attachment to Falco and Marth.

Falco already rides a lot of emotion because he is a space animal and prone to big momentum swings. This, by extension, gives the player lots of potential for emotional swings with the character's performance. I frequently start many matches(especially earlier bracket ones) thinking I could lose with Falco, and end those same matches thinking Falco is awesome and I can do anything with him.

Even so, I have never experienced anything that feels so much like a roller coaster ride when I play this character. Perfect laser spacing, perfect execution, perfect manipulation of the opponent in minute ways that only Falco can do all feel amazing, but then I could lose focus momentarily and die in 2 seconds lmao. Still, the work that I have put into this character and the time spent working on him have left me with a feeling of trust in Falco that I don't think I could replicate with another character, and I don't think I'd want to do that now.

When Falco is also the first character I saw in Melee that amazed me, there is even more reason to remain dedicated to him. You can only have your first WOW moment once, and that just adds to the long list of why I love Falco since the beginning.

I DID, however, want to main Marth first. It just didn't work out for me because of Sheik at low level haha. I LOVE the character's elegance, the smooth combos, and now the finesse required to control the opponent and juggle them. Keeping deliberate, calculated control of an opponent feels more natural to me in some ways than what I can do with Falco, even if I try to do the same thing with Falco. Plus, the sounds of any tippered moves and Marth's movement in general just feel amazing. No feeling in Melee like either of those things to me.

Marth is also a historical character, dominating Melee for much of its lifespan. I do hope to help Marth return to the almost legendary character I fawned over when I began watching competitive Melee and saw M2K at his prime as well as Ken and Azen, etc etc etc playing. I tend to be motivated by causes like that now haha.

Blue Marth looks REALLY cool too lol.

Completely unrelated but I've wondered... are you actually a Dr. of some kind? Do you have any educational degree that allows you to clal yourself Dr. outside of the smash community? Just curious.

I was on that track, but then changed my mind.

My tag has nothing to do with that goal though haha.

Wow. The world finally makes sense to me. Perfect.

Anyway, I think of my character bonds almost like family. I feel like my main (Samus) is like a really good girlfriend to me. My Falcon is like a best friend, and my Kirby is like a close brother.

Edit: Now that I think about it, that might sound a little weird.

If I had all the time in the world, I'd probably play 20-some characters. In order to actually improve with the little time I get to play, I just stick with Falco/Marth/Fox.
This is pretty much my story too. Though I don't even consider myself a serious player anymore.. sadly.

You don't consider yourself serious anymore? I don't think I ever considered myself serious. I think if I had a stronger attachment to the community then I would really get into it, but there are a couple people that turn me off to the whole tourney scene. Hence, why I barely ever show up to tourneys or fests.

As for emotional attachments.... it is dangerous to get too attached to a low-tier. Roy is a tool. And like all tools he is useful for certain situations, and not for others. He has a playstyle I find comfortable. I'm not ashamed to whip out the spacies for certain matchups though.

I think I get emotionally attached to players more often. Watching vids of national tournaments, there are always certain individuals I root for every time. Their character has something to do with it. If Marth is perceived as superior in the metagame, I tend to root for the Falco/Falcon or whatever. If Marth is perceived as inferior, I tend to root for the Marth. Whoever the underdog is, basically. I like seeing turnover.

I agree with this, lol.

I play several characters in addition to my Falcon, but that stems from my love of the game and the differences between certain matchups/characters and how fun they can be. But Falcon is my dedicated main and I do feel like I have a sort of duty to stay Falcon all the time in serious matches.

Plus, I always find myself rooting for the Falcons at tournaments and stuff. I guess it's the steadfastness that comes with the territory, lol.

i have the most "emotional attachment" to the characters that i focused on before i learned anything about melee tournaments

if the me from that period of time could see what i do now with those characters, he'd be amazed... and that's kind of exciting

it's nice having friends who play this game seriously

I can't not Play Mewtwo. No matter how much better i become with Ganondorf, I don't think I'll ever stop using Mewtwo in game 1 of EVERY set I play, whether it's tournament or Friendlies or whatever. Some people may call this crazy, but not me. I call it loyalty.
