Proactiv never worked for me. It didn't burn my face nor did it clear my acne. I'm pretty sure Proactive works differently for different people, but for the most part it works for many.

I have a lot of acne on my chin and nose, and I used to have it on my back and chest but it cleared up a bit over the years. Thankfully, blackheads aren't very visible, so it's not too much of a problem. I have mostly blackheads and some whiteheads, and I've tried several things to clear it all up but nothing has worked completely. Some treatments got close, though.

I used Proactiv for about 2 kits' worth some 6-7 years ago and while it noticeably improved my acne, my results weren't as good as they could have been because I unfortunately used the treatment much less often than recommended and finally stopped due to their automatic shipment tactic. It was good stuff... I just hated buying it and they don't give enough of the cleanser compared to the toner/lotion.

I'm back on a very basic daily cleanser + a common 10% benzoyl peroxide gel routine because I can't really afford expensive treatment. It works to a noticeable degree but I still get moderate acne, along with large, deep pimples every now and then which leave deep scars when picked at too much.

My face has several cumulative deep scars from my acne over the years, enough to warrant acne scar surgery. I personally can't wait for the day for my acne to be under control so I can actually be eligible for scar restoration surgery. Another problem I have is excessively oily skin on my face and face alone. Even after cleansing, noticeable shine will appear within the hour. Suffice to say it's pretty annoying and may very well be a major cause of my acne that I have little idea of how to properly treat at the root.

Well this thread go t bumped up on some pretty goof timing. I just got off my 5 month treatment of accutane and I'm so happy so I have a before picture i just dug up from a month or two before i started.

Before:

*I covered my eyes because this pic was taken when i wasn't looking and my eyes make me look incredibly silly, but you can see my acne in the pic*

After:

after picture isn't so great for seeing the difference but believe me, ALL of my acne is gone now

By eating right and using herbal supplements and proper cleaning and dietary habits you can get rid of your acne naturally. Eat alkaline and eat clean and health promoting. Just read into it or go to your nearest organic foods store and ask for the most qualified associate!

On top of getting a healthy diet, here are some more tips. Try to get natural treatments with tea tree oil in them. It helps to use an unscented oatmeal soap every day to wash your face. When you go to bed, just put a clean small towel between your head and the pillow. Be sure to wash your pillow case often if you don't feel like doing that.

EDIT: I've never had bad acne, these are just things I know and see put to use on people because I work in this sort of stuff.

Actually, diet has nothing to do with acne. Acne is caused by the oils your body produces naturally, and there are no foods that can cause your body to produce more. A healthy diet is still good for you regardless of acne... but you could eat pizza for every meal of the day and have just as much acne as you would if you were a vegetarian.

Well regardless, I've changed my diet for my own health. I ain't got no **** money for these products so I won't bother reading up on the. Accutane seems like a last resort thing with all those side effects people posted about.

Anywho, not eating dairy / drinking soda / working out will only do me good.

My acne problem is over, buuuut, now I got some blackheads on my nose and cheeks. Strip pads and other treatments don't do much. If I just leave them and bath regularly, what will happen to my face? Will they scar?

it is dangerous to spread misinformation like this, seriously dude.

oil production is influenced by hormones, the production of which are influenced by the food that eat, to name a few obvious connections.

zinc deficiency is also a well known contributor to acne.

stress is also a scientifically studied cause of acne, which is strongly correlated to diet, in terms of the bodies ability to cope with stress.

specifically a lack of b vitamins in the diet make the human body much more vulnerable to stress and not surprisingly panthotheic acid vitamin b5 has been used with success in the clinical studies in treating acne.

also 99% of the ingredients in pizza are not meat.

Yes, because me making the post under the assumption that people eat regularly and normally is spreading misinformation. We don't hear about people having horomonal changes, zinc deficiencies, and a lack of b vitamin due to diet often, now do we?

Pizza was used as an exaggeration to reinforce the point. While pizza may not be entirely meat, it still isn't very healthy for you, which is what I was getting at (seeing as vegetarianism is typically viewed as a healthy lifestyle, even though it really isn't).

Blackheads are not known to form pustules underneath. Although the pore may appear blocked, oxygen can still get in.

If you really want to get rid of those without harming your skin and adhesive masks have already failed, try a comedone expressor. They are simple metal implements that work by exerting gentle force on all sides of a pimple, causing the pressure that removes the blackhead to come from below. This prevents worsening the pimple as opposed to pushing inward with the fingers, which is ideally something you should never do.

For blackheads on the nose, stick with the biore strips because there's honestly no better way to get rid of them without bruising the skin.

I think it's fair to say that for the vast majority of people, diet plays little to no significant role in their acne.
This is pretty truth. Some people it does, a lot doesn't. I used to eat like CRAP. When I met my current boyfriend and got into eating healthier food, guess what didn't change? My acne.

@Crashic: For blackheads, do you use a scrub? Using a scrub 3 times a week or so can really help, and if you mix it with baking soda, it helps even more.
