ATTENTION PLEASE :]

Sup ya'll. I wanted to bring up the topic of a joint Brawl & Melee tournament at A&C World again, but try and ask more people this time.

Basically where this comes from is the fact that with several new games being released (I think the most recent ones are Persona 4, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Guilty Gear for PSN/Xbox Live, and soon to come out, PlayStation All-Stars), it will be difficult to secure a Saturday (only 4 Saturdays on average in a month) for a tournament on a monthly basis. That being said, I figured that every so often, Brawl & Melee could just share a date.

I remember some of the problems people had with this was speculating that the venue would either be:

  • Too hot (mainly because of summer time).
  • Too crowded (mainly because of certain players who had a summer break and wanted to go to a tournament, which apparently is normally not possible for them during the school year).
  • Low on setups.

Given the fact that it is winter, and that the venue continues to purchase fans, I don't quite think the heat would be a problem (and I would guarantee it wouldn't come anywhere close to Combination of Domination (the sauga tourney held on July 9th, 2011 where there was food being made in the tourney, and 4 different games being run).

Also, I know for a fact that the venue can handle more people than it looks like it can handle, and comfortably as well, given that numbers that far exceed say 60 people have managed to fit into A&C World at any given time of the year without any complaints of heat or space.

As for Setups, I know that A&C has at least 10 working CRT TV's, and + I can drive now, and I have 5 CRT's at my place that I would be more than happy to bring if I think we needed them.

In addition, with the new TO group (Vitality), it makes it much easier to manage and organize the tournament so that it runs on time. + We figure it's a good way to bring the communities closer together as there would be some crossover of entrants that would benefit both events, as well as the people who play in multiple events (not having to worry about travelling twice a month and paying venue fee twice a month).

I hope that this time the idea can be supported. December is relatively low on dates, so if it were to happen, it would likely be December 8. I wish that ya'll would sincerely consider the benefits of this proposal, or at least opt to give it a chance.

And if a large majority of people really don't want it, then it won't happen. Anyways, please post your thoughts, concerns, etc. Thanks :).

Only if it has PM.

Not that my opinion counts, turns out I have an exam on the 8th at 12:30 but I might show up since I'll be passing by Spadina station anyways.

I wish you luck in making this run on time, if you can do it then more power to you, maybe think about online reg/season passes for the monthlies if this becomes a regular thing. You already know most of the people who show up regularly so it could help have pools ready quickly, of course there's issue with that idea but other regions have done it and so long as you provide full refunds when people can't show up but it might help you organize things a little better. Just saiyan.

I'd be open to Brawl/Melee Monthlies on the same day.

Mostly because I play both games, but also because it would be less expensive/time consuming than going downtown twice a month.

I'd rather go to a melee tourney on a sunday than share the venue with brawl real talk lol

I think the joint events are a bad idea but idk how hard attendance would suffer if saturdays couldn't always be secured

Not only do I think Brawl like, sucks but...

I think we all remember that at Impulse the brawl part of the room was *SIGNIFICANTLY* smellier. Like, dear god the appreciation I have that melee players tend to be like real people that shower and ****ing take care of themselves in some way is inexpressible. (Mew2king is an exception, but he also plays Brawl I guess) I know a lot of you know about that ****, and some of you have even approached me about encountering this problem at other separate Brawl only or mixed events. In the small *** basement of A&C (only relatively small to the amount of people we're talking about) the smell would kill us all.

Setups are whatever, I'd rather not share but it's not like we haven't done tournaments with less. I like the amount we have now (like 2ish per pool). It makes things run pretty smoothly. I swear for brawl to run at the same pace as melee they would need like 5 per pool >_> Ultimately even if we had more setups, it's more of an issue of space. Like, where would we fit 20+ more setups? It's moot point cause like since when has the brawl community been known for something other than NOT BRINGING THEIR OWN SET UPS. Oh right >_> the smell.

Edit: ****, was that my 1337 post? If so it was ****ing amazing

Can the venue fee be lowered with a joint event since it guarantees more people on the same day?

This seems like an appropriate compromise and gives the market community an incentive to do joint event.

An ingenious idea, seeing as how the melee and brawl tourneys are probably just as valuable to A and C money wise as any other tourney they run. If they put both tourneys on the same day there's going to be a lot less people going for each unless they lower venue fee to 5 bucks or something.

But like others have mentioned, space is still going to be a problem. Even though the venue can probably fit like 60-70 people in theory it wouldn't be very comfortable at all and would pretty much eliminate any opportunity for friendlies or side events like the amateur tourney. I don't think this is fair for newer players who are going to lose most of their pool/bracket matches and then not get any more play time. If I was a new player coming to my first A and C tourney and this happened I'd be pretty upset and never come out again. More play time is what gives incentive to new players to continue improving, I wouldn't be where I am now if I came to a tourney, lost all my matches and then went home.

I'm willing to give this joint event idea a chance, but in order for things to work there's going to have to be a lot of setups and even then the events are going to have to be run really efficiently.

edit: to help matters, I can bring a setup if needed. I could bring a copy of brawl as well if the brawl community needs one.

hmm...well, people make some good points, but if there are gonna be problems, we'd know for sure after trying it once.

second the idea of lowering the entry fee.

also how come this has come up twice now? is ryan just registering the melee days way faster or something?

So after watching the king of cali stream last night I realized the chance of ken comming to this tournament was a possibility. Btw did anyone else know ken played and commentated at king of cali? It was being streamed last night and fri i believe. He got outa pools but was merked in bracket although he hadn't picked a controller up in the last 5 years.

I know that the venue can do things like give free water (every once in a while if the attendance look promising).

Not really sure how adding another tourney would detract from enjoyment (outside of the friendlies thing to which I have volunteered bringing my own setups, and outside of the space thing but the venue has held quite a few people and none of them complained so :/).

Never though you guys would start saying things like "the other community smells" :ohwell:...

Was hoping people would at least be considerate enough to try out the idea once tho. But it's ok.
