why is it that whenever i explain how i percieve and play video games, people call me "sad". do they think i just... don't like video games? like this is some kind of nicotine equivalent i hate but can't draw myself away from?

I love this pixel font that Japanese companies keep on using on translated websites for some reason.
I think it's really cool and almost beautiful how most big pop cultural icons introduced in living memory are essentially just a remixed version of, or at least follow the stylistic trappings of, some unpopular or underground thing by the same creators.
"fast food company streaming service" feels like a very typical stunt on paper, but the fact that it's Chick-Fil-A specifically, and considering what content most alternative streaming services host... uhh, oh no.
It's very fascinating how AI, as a cultural entity, has probably accelerated the already ongoing and well-acknowledged "irrelevant" step in the "relevant-irrelevant-nostalgia-forgotten" cycle of semi-photorealistic animation by copying so much of Pixar's homework (or uh, Google image results) and making it look cheap. Not really saying it's good or bad thing, that style does need a rest but it's also a very nice one IMO, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a nostalgia boom for it, or at the very least some Disney die-hards who prop it up like some do the Xerox style.
It's really weird how a lot of the NASB thread was convinced that characters like Squidward, Jimmy Neutron, and Rocko only got in through fan demand. I can understand the root of "they just added Rocksteady/Granny to troll" as an opinion, even though it is obviously wrong once any critical thought about the game making process and the general existential status of non-Smash video games as video games that exist beyond an initial reaction and not the high-budget equivalent to a Google Maps April Fools advergame that serves its ephemeric duty and fades away is applied, but like... other than Hugh and El Tigre (the latter just being such a perfect fit for a platfighter he would've likely gotten in even if his show was hated), every one of the top NASB requests that has gotten in has been essentially just a "no **** Sherlock" pick that was outprioritised. Nobody ever said "let's NOT put in Squidward, that would be a bad idea" during NASB1's development.

at the start of the year when i was REALLY into the pd stuff i was reading letterboxd reviews for the old black and white looney tunes shorts, and i found a review for the Iconic Hit goopy geer and one of them mentioned that "cats eating soup" is not a funny gag, and somehow i internalised that and now i just sometimes crack up thinking "haha, cats are eating soup" without even conciously connecting it to the review or cartoon.
I love this logo because it is by far the most blatantly forced Marvel-ficiation I've ever seen in my life, but I mean it in an affectionate way if that makes sense. Like, yeah, this is what 2020s pop culture is going to be remembered for, isn't it? Is this how 90s adults felt when Space Jam came out?
I absolutely want a significant copyright length shortening, but we also have to accept that if it happened, every gaming storefront - including Nintendo's (looking at you, Monkey Kong in New York) - would look like this for a week straight minimum.

For as much people talk about "Disney's first gay character", "Disney's first original animated film" is way more confusing. They'll tell you Lion King was the first, but half of the Disney films prior were based on unreleased and lost material (Aristocats is a bizarre example of this, since said unreleased material was a film script, just a live action TV movie one) and a good chunk went beyond "unfaithful adaptation" into "we just took a character name and nothing else, we wasted licensing money"
Anyway, the first original Disney (company) animated film is Plane Crazy - short cartoons were made as films and not episodes, and Gallopin' Goucho and Steamboat Willie were parodies.

i do like sc though, but no denying it did fail its long-term goal in the uhh... long term, and frontiers probably will too once the colours kids grow up. i don't think redesigning movie sonic was a bad choice (for quality) and a rare thing fans were right on, but i just wanted to do the "taking things literally" joke.
