I haven't played MVS, and don't think it looks very good, but honestly if there's any platform fighter that should have a League of Legends-sized roster, it should be this one - primarily casual appeal, big emphasis on character interactions, really vague criteria for character inclusion that covers multiple fandoms - quantity is the way to go here.

Make fun of NASB1
Explain slime admittedly well
Describe genre-norm mechanics that predate Ultimate and were in the first NASB as "stunning new twists on the formula"
Some sort of whine about cut characters and/or playercounts

When you think about it, this iconic image has very chilling existential implications. Imagine if your Truman Show epiphany was kicked off by being visited by a past version of yourself, somehow aware while present-day you isn't, attempting to tearily-eyed enact violent retribution for not being entertaining enough to watch.

I'm not sure how ironic I'm being here. More than half on either the ironic or sincere scale, but certainly not 100%, and I have no clue which is dominant

NASB2 lets you have 5 second long battles. It's surprisingly fun and suspenseful, if the game had better loading times I'd play it as a mode frequently.

I find it weird how a lot of platformer fandoms - specifically Rayman and Mega Man, to name two - actively want their favourite characters to be corporate mascots in the same way Mario and Sonic are. Even putting aside the very topical and complex discussion of corporate IP ownership and who is owed what for a creative production, would you as a fan want your favourite character to be associated with some of these companies' practices and reputations? And would you as a fan want your favourite character's games to be designed with such a reputation in mind?

The counterpoint to "a bigger public domain would just mean less original ideas and more Star Wars/Marvel/e.t.c." is that said franchises even exist at all and not just a constant string of movies where Dracula fights Humpty Dumpty. Public domain characters have historically been bit part players to new characters - if all of Marvel and DC's heavy hitters became free to use, we'd have a fad, but then it'd mostly be "Scoblob n' Pals Season 2 Episode 6: Scoblob Meets Batman!"

Penny's Big Breakaway is really good, best 3D Sonic-style movement I've ever seen; and you can see influence taken from a very plentiful and diverse set of platforming and non-platforming games (Ristar and Mario 3D World are especially apparent as influences), but whoever decided that "let's make our entire set of mooks the baby Goombas from Mario 3" should get a stern talking to.

I got recommended a video from an FNF fan channel about the game's inactivity, and it's really weird? He's treating the slow progress of blog updates and reveals as if it's some kind of crime or moral slight? and he pulls up recent blog updates that show clear as day it's still being worked on, and complains because they don't actually reveal anything about the final game? The info he's complaining about being "boring" is actually kinda interesting too, a lot of neat BTS game dev system stuff.

Something I find interesting about the public domain is the ability to make crossovers that aren't crossovers, if that makes sense. Count Dracula and Frankenstein's Monster were created nearly a century apart and their source material had wildly different tones, but because of the public domain they're considered long-standing sidekicks or rivals in a lot of works without any multiverse shenanigans. I'm glad to see that a lot of Mickey/Oswald projects are incorporating Felix and Pooh just as part of the world, for instance.
