It's weird how animation is the only medium where "adult" and "kid" need to be categorised so heavily. Like, no live action TV show is announced by calling itself "a brand new adult show!" (unless it's porn at least), and nobody makes YouTube compilations of "Every swear in E.T.!" like they would for Regular Show.

I honestly think the main reason Smash hasn't had a proper "meme pick" like Hugh or UI Shaggy yet is because of how Japanese meme culture works (as far as I can tell the mainstream meme culture is based more in text, ASCII, and catchphrases than images, meaning characters can't really become memes in the way Waluigi or Gex could over here), not Sakurai taking issue with comedy-driven game design decisions (for crying out loud, this is the guy who designed Rest) or "toxic fandoms".

The Game Boy Colour is such a surreal console - Nintendo made barely any games for it, 80% of it's lineup is licensed games, the rest is mostly overambitious ports of console games, it's 8-bit but also not from or trying to evoke the 80s, a ton of it's games had an entire other game on the cartridge for Game Boy players, and most of the people developing the aforementioned licensed games were demoscene guys.

There's just something kinda surreal about what is basically a few extra colours away from an officially-licensed NES game based on Harry Potter; Monsters Inc; Buffy the Vampire Slayer; or Bob the Builder, you know?
