Some tournaments take place in massive convention centers. Some grand finals even go down in giant arenas. While these events can be truly impressive, they don't have the spark of early tournaments that captured the imagination and hearts of Smash players. Friends crowded around TVs, laughing, jeering, and, while the competition was fierce, they were still having the time of their lives. This is the atmosphere players will find at McMansion 7, a tournament that's like a vacation with live music, food, and a whole lot of Smash.

At many tournaments, there are moments that get people talking. The kind of matches that bring fans out of their chairs and make them laugh and smile. Some players quickly win over the hearts of viewers and make a name for themselves in one event alone through fantastic moments. Two such moments happened at Beast 6. One was the incredible triumph of iStudying, who took 2nd place after overcoming MVD and ESAM. The other happened quite literally at random as one player stepped up to the stream with an unusual character choice in mind.

Downtown Monterrey is a perpetual cluster of vehicles and people, all pushing in different directions, trying to go about their everyday routines. This area of the city is not only home to most of the major businesses and many social hotspots but also to the Technological University of Monterrey, which draws thousands every day for a variety of classes, conferences and events.

Today, however, the college is awfully quiet, and people gather for a completely different reason. Right across the street from the university, in a small, inconspicuous lot usually reserved for selling homemade foods, hundreds of people from all walks of life congregate to the sound of cheering, down-throws and f-airs.

These characters formed the lineup for the first ever Smash 4 tournament held; however, it was a shocking surprise that the organizer for this early tournament was Nintendo itself.

SoCal: the region that gave us 18% of the players in the top 64 of Genesis 3. The region that had more players in that top 64 than Florida, MD/VA, and Canada combined and more than Japan as well. While any SoCal event can end up stacked, sometimes the powerhouses break through the wall and all sign up at once, making for some incredible fights. The spectacles in store can range from a Samus player taking down top names to a future king attempting to take his throne. Weeklies there can quickly become a miniature major all in themselves, and this is just what happened to Wednesday Night Fights happening tonight.
