    A Brawl Gameplay Critique

A defensive game is not the ONLY viable option in Brawl, it's an additional option that was not viable in Melee. A game with only one viable playing strategy with 4 viable characters is not a game with depth, it's a broken game. A fighting game where the only viable strategy that leads to...

    A Brawl Gameplay Critique

My analysis of 'competition' is dead-on. YOU'RE analysis is that of the 'relative skill-level of players', and it's 100% correct. Their skill levels ARE based on all those things, my point is that the less of those things there are to master, the MORE players that will be able to compete at the...

    A Brawl Gameplay Critique

You can not make this claim until competitive play actually starts and develops. As of right now, the game has not been out long enough to know whether Brawl's mechanics lead to a better, worse or different competitive game than Melee. This comment is ridiculous, the fact that most...

How to convince some friends that edgehogging is a perfectly valid tech?

I edited my post :) His point is that he's TRIED to teach his friends how to edgehog, but because they have labeled the move as "cheap" they refuse to use it. And yet they still continue to complain about him using it. His options are thus: A) Stop using it against this group of...

'Item Standard Play': A New Way to Play Competitive Smash (Read Link BEFORE Posting)

This is a great idea for the more casual Brawl crowd who enjoy items and want to compete in a tournament with items. It should be noted that items are inherently unbalanced, if for no other reason than that they spawn in random locations on the map. You can have the most balanced collection...

    Short Hopping

There aren't many tips available for this technique that will help you out... it's simply a matter of pushing the button very quickly. It doesn't matter how light or how hard you press the button, only that it remains pressed for less than the amount of time it takes for your character to enter...

How to convince some friends that edgehogging is a perfectly valid tech?

If your friends are unwilling to use the techniques that lead to victory, then you are playing with scrubs. Go find better players who are playing to win, instead of only playing for fun.

    Tap Jump, Pros and Cons

Brawl's tap-jump seems much more sensitive than Melee's, so I turned it off. I played 2 matches as Marth and by the 4th time I was accidently double-jumping trying his SH Fair I said "Screw This" and went into controller options to remove it. I've always WANTED to remove it anyway, but in SSB64...

A little tip against marth players

I keep seeing threads filled with people complaining about one or two moves destroying them in matches... Unbelievable.

    DI Abuse

It's been possible to do this in some form or another since SSB64, it's called spacing and air-control. DI is a reference to your trajectory after being HIT. I can't think of how I ACTUALLY do this right now, but I know that it's something picked up by any regular smash player within a few hours...

+1 to this thread :) I thought it was very well done, the grammar is sick.

    snake to easy

Charizard is REALLY easy to beat. Snake isn't tough, neither is Bowser, DK or DDD. Ike gives me some trouble, but not too much. The hardest characters to beat with Olimar are probably Ice Climbers, Space Animals, Lucas and Toon Link.

    Purple Pikmin Abuse

Pit's arrow-spam isn't that tough to dodge as Olimar... Short-Hop, Duck, Short-Hop, Duck, Short-Hop, Duck, Roll, DSmash! Admittedly, it takes a lot of anticipating your opponents reaction and aiming of the arrows, but the pattern usually works, if not, you just need to do a couple Short-Hops...

It looks like gimping tether recoveries was 100% intentional...

I took to maining Olimar and was worried that the tether-gimping would be a huge issue... While most of the players I've played on smashboards don't even try to edge-hog, the two guys that DID edge-hog against me make me believe that Olimar has enough options to overcome this disadvantage a few...
