In other news, I ended up getting third in that wifi tourney. Lost to K Prime (as usual ) and Serin.

I failed with Zelda and had to switch to Pika to take a game off Serin. Kirby's bair spam was just a little too much for me. Went back to Zelda vs. his DK and lost again, but meh, what can you do. =X

I didn't use D3 because she finds that character "boring."

So I just decided to bair spam with a different character.

DDD is an awful character..... you spend the entire match trying to avoid two moves. -_- I'd rather fight a mountain of MKs and a ****ton of ICs than play against one DDD.

Also: go away. It's enough that I have to look at you in the Pika forum. x.o

What are you having trouble with in the matchup?

I could honestly write a whole book on it since I play it so much (from both sides), but for the sake of not boring you..... I'll just focus on the parts you need help with.

But since then, I've learned even more about it, so I'm not sure if there're things I might tweak if I went back and looked at what I wrote. ><

Well, it's not "trouble" itself, it's just that a friend mains Pika, but I haven't ever faced him with Zelda.
Firstly, because we have not many chances to play.
Second, because i really didn't felt very confident with the MU... =/

Your friend abuses dsmash like it's his job. Shield + punish with dash attack OOS or a dash grab (dash attack is easier and more reliable). Don't let go of your shield too early, or you'll get hit with the last part of dsmash and be set up for thunder.

He also tjolts a lot, even when it's not particularly safe. At mid-range you have to rely on shielding, but at long range (any distance farther than ~half the length of the stage), you can Din's, and it'll eat the jolt and hit him as well. If he tjolts close to you and you perfect shield it, hyphen smash or nair to punish him. Tjolt has a good bit of cooldown lag. Don't bother with Naryu's unless you're absolutely sure he won't block..... it's too laggy.

He dtilts a lot too...... and fsmashes too much. Both are punishable by Zelda with good spacing (her dtilt outranges his, although they can clank sometimes, and Pika's fsmash is unsafe on block), so that's good news for you.

If he tries to approach with FH fairs, usmash will eat those.

I don't think I saw him grab once so far, and I'm paused at 1:54...... granted, he might play differently in the Zelda MU, but you're REALLY lucky if he doesn't like to grab, because a lot of Zelda's troubles come from Pika being able to rush in and grab her endlag if you whiff a move.

-- Oh wait, I just went a little farther, and he finally attempted a grab, lol.

When you're within KO range, don't panic. Pika has nothing to kill you with that you can't counter as long as you stay firmly planted on the ground. His fsmash and usmash are both unsafe on block, and both are, for all intents and purposes, short-ranged moves. (His fsmash has range, but the sweetspot is at his nose.) Nair is extremely fast, but it won't kill until around ~140% with good DI unless you're near the edge of the stage..... just be careful not to lag on his shield, because he'll probably use it OOS if you do. Thunder requires him to set you up with utilt/usmash, but if you DI sideways, the thunder isn't guaranteed.

Pika is really good at baiting and punishing Zelda because she's so limited, but she still outranges him and kills much earlier provided you don't get gimped/edgeguarded to death. As long as you keep a level head and don't react to his fake-outs, you should be fine.

I get excited when I get to face a DDD main. Zelda can handle that match-up well even though it runs fairly even. He has no chain grab, so he has to rely on his Bair wall which is beatable with patience. I'm not sure how he's going to approach you as I don't think he has a safe way in on Zelda.

I haven't stopped using Pika completely. I just haven't been in the mood for him for... almost half a year now. That, and I feel like I can't really use him anymore. I haven't given up on him yet though. But don't you ever feel like Pika just isn't cutting it for you? I don't know, maybe you have better luck than me =/

Also, I can't use MK. Lol.

(Seriously, the Pika board's turnover rate is crazy.) I get discouraged too, but I won't ever drop him, so I just work to move past those periods of frustration.

Snake looks fun, though...... I envy your ability to play him. Heavy characters never work out for me..... I can't even play DDD, and he's simple as hell.

Somehow, MK actually became my main-along with Zelda lol.

It's not a tier desision, I liked him a lot before, but I just wasn't able to use it properly until some few time ago.

I use him even on Balanced Brawl! xD

Pika's very technical imo, but then again so is Snake xD I don't know... I think if I literally forced myself to use Pika for like several weeks in a row, I could get the hang of him again. He's still my third you know so it's no like he's not a main anymore. Besides, there are very few characters in this game I can use and actually hold my own.

And yeah, Snake is hella fun ^^ I'm not good with heavies either actually, but it just takes getting used to. He also has a huge learning curve, and I feel like he can deal with a lot of the match ups my Zelda struggles with. Olimar is still a ***** though, and will always be (I've actually given it some serious thought to picking up Peach just to deal with him xD)
