Yo. So it's a bit late on the planning front but I'm making this thread to help organise the zelda marathon this year. Gords has graciously offered his apartment for use by the sydney boys so i think using his epic industrial-grade internet is a no-brainer.

The marathon will be held on January 5th-6th with setup/cooldown days before and after.
Anyone who wants to come and watch in person is welcome to do so on the condition that you do not behave obnoxiously.

For those who don't know this is a 48-hour marathon where we play through the 3D zelda games back-to-back and sleep-deprive ourselves on stream in the name of charity. We've gotten pretty good at them over time; with any leftover time we'll be playing other games too. Here's a list of stuff we could be doing (look at this pastebin link for the most up-to-date version):

main games
Ocarina of Time — JP All Dungeons (MST)
Majora's Mask — US Any%
The Wind Waker — JP Any% (No Tuner)
Twilight Princess — US Any%

bonus round candidates/ideas
Skyward Sword — US Any% NG+
Super Metroid — Any%
Banjo-Kazooie — 100%
Super Mario 64 — 70 Star
Four Swords Adventures — 4-Player Any%
The Wind Waker — Master Sword Race

As for perth/usa involvement, I assume they'll be doing their own marathons again this year. However I think if last year taught us anything, it's that the way sydney players want to play through these games is too drastically different to the others to treat this as a race anymore.

That said, marteh and crew, if you want to do something like time your marathon alongside ours and cross-publicize each other throughout then I think that would be awesome. Just let me know what dates work best for you too. :D

Let's get this **** crackalackin'.

Escro, the dates listed there are the dates that I have available for and most likely will hold my weekend meets, I said EA can use any of those for the Zelda marathon.

I'd consider giving Skyward Sword a go, assuming I'd have time to learn it.

yep, just get to credits. since oot is broken as hell and can be finished in 20-something minutes unrestricted, for it specifically you will need to beat all the dungeons too (step in blue warps/do ganon trials).

how does one donate?
i'll be setting up a webpage for team sydney at some point, there'll be a donation thingy on there once that's ready. not sure if it'll be a shared donation thing with perth/usa like last year or just a direct thing to childs play, time will tell.

the usa team we've raced in the past don't like excessive glitches, so they pretty much just play it straight the whole way; basically all dungeons glitchless (for all games). the oot distinction is not so much a usa thing but rather a thing preventing the run from being too short/boring (we are trying to raise money after all). the other games are not so broken and do not require artificial lengthening. for the record, what i outlined above is an actual oot category run by the zelda speedrunning community.

tl;dr where we differ is our stance on using glitches

Nah, you can do a trick called "Infinite Sword glitch" which makes it so your sword is always 'swinging' which prevents you from falling off ledges and combine it with the fact that when bombs explode and hit you, they put you on a bit of ground so that when you have Infinite Sword glitch and backflip and get hit by a bomb in midair, the sword glitch stops you from falling off the bit of ground getting hit by the bomb puts you on and you end up floating there.

(this is from memory and may be wrong)

Pretty much, however you need to sheild the bomb or itll knock you out of it, taking damage reverts it.

Either way I just saw this now, but yeah marathons this year are a bit strange.
The USA team is actually all over the world atm so they're not doing a run.

As for us...Well half our regular team is in Japan for study, not even joking (Vlade and MTGod). Due to this and we're planning a gaming marathon however not sure if it'll be Zelda this year due to that. We're talking about maybe a different marathon of games this year just for the fun of it.

Either when you have a date I'll be checking it out, and will keep you posted on what's happening.

Oh and I'll still challenge you to Majora's Mask if my recording gear is here on time, breaking that game is hilarious.

*stuff* (this is from memory and may be wrong)
ISG prevents you from falling as long as you are in a grounded state. Shielding a source of damage puts you in a grounded state (it doesn't check to see if you are actually grounded before doing this). When hovering you can't move around (there's no ground to move onto) so the only way to change your position is by backflipping or sidehopping, which obviously puts you into an aerial state, so to counteract this and gain height/"hover" you time the explosion of the bomb as your damage source with the peak of your backflip, and shield it to put you back in the grounded state and stop moving.

S.D -- OOT/MM are both really crazy, but everything you see is possible without AR or other cheat devices (the speedrunning community bans them). It's simply a stroke of luck that the few things that make OOT so broken and quick don't work in MM, cause in general tricks in those two games almost always cross over.

actually, screw zelda, play banjo kazooie
lol what are you, some cosmo fanboy?
(spoilers: we'll probably finish well before the traditional 48hr limit so there'll probably be extra non-zelda stuff at the end)

hey, i watched cosmo's entire wind waker run and wasn't bored even once

it was surprising even for me
Which one, the English tuner run that Cosmo put on YouTube with commentary is soooooo dated now and is no longer the record being beaten by demoon9 ( who only played that category recently to get a good time). You should watch the latest Japanese tuner runs that Cosmo and demoon9 have done, stuff in there will blow your mind (not OOT mind blowing but still awesome).

take particular note on how they now skip Helmaroc king,

yeah that's right EA, I went there, lol
