Duel Masters doesn't even have a life total. There's very few aspects it has in common with any game, and while I personally liked the uniqueness, I don't think it helped the game's lifespan.

Also cutting all the jokes from the anime probably didn't help.

What you may be thinking of is the homages to Magic present in the original manga and such.

Duel Masters is still to this day the most popular card game in Japan ever since it's introduction in 98.

It's getting a reboot in the west sometime next year.

(The series has always been ongoing in Japan)

Wolf run ramp dominated GP Brisbane, primeval has a new home
Its so annoying to deal with, as well. The deck isn't that strong of a deck but if it resolves a Primeval Titan it becomes so much harder to deal with because Inkmoth Nexus is amazing. I'd never thought I'd see a situation where I'd think 'wow, I'd much rather that be a Wurmcoil Engine'. :p

EDIT: Incidentally, the power of Ramp means Werewolves might actually be more viable than the joke I thought they'd be, since Ramp has nothing to stop Moonmist, and Moonmist is just ridiculous of a card. Still not good though, since without Daybreak Ranger they scoop to Primeval Titan.
