And so, the tradition of Yoshi losing every single set when they get recorded in Japan continues.

Of course when I unsub from this thread and a couple others they get posts finally after a week or so lol
We of course can't read moonrunes, but is that still yoshidora? He still tosses a bit too many eggs if it is him, but at least he kinda toned it down a bit and is tossing out more moves that isn't UpB and b reverses.

Man... Why do the japanese put Yoshi as Top 5 when they're not winning anything over there.
Thanks for vids I guess famran, I haven't been checking them lately from shi-gaming cause again they're always losing and toss only eggs or neutral B regardless if Yoshidora or not so I learn next to nothing.

I can't read Japanese, so I can't tell who's playing. Also, I never saw Yoshidora, so I can't compare either.

Tink one I noticed him going Ike and I think another sword character game 3 but point still stands sadly.
Yoshi is doomed yet overhyped for some reason.

But his frame data is SO GOOD Slush. He can just Nair and Jab out of everything!
Falco's frame data is fine, but you don't see him anywhere except in a bar drowning his sorrows away. :p

It was Yoshi to Ike to Link vs. Toon Link.

So, how well-known are Akua and Jin? Are they just players there that had their matches uploaded on terminalkai? I kind of wished more players from other places were known and kept track of.

Honestly no idea who those Yoshi's are. Gheb is the one I think that can read the moonrunes and keeps up with the Japan scene but I haven't seen him post in the competitive impressions thread for a couple months now, so my best guess is he hasn't been paying attention to smash scene over there as well.

Last time he quoted anything was a tournament that Yoshidora was at, and that one is the most notable afaik.

Lots of great Yoshi play in here from Floyo and Genmuh. Also features probably the hypest Yoshi Mirror Match ever at about 1 hour in:

http://www.twitch.tv/stlbarwarz/b/634954137
12:30 Genmuh vs Nicole (zss)
52:15 Genmuh could have gotten that gimp from grab release had he not munched on flow-yo. Really good set between the two.
1:08:30 Genmuh vs Gottoms (pit/mario)
1:20:00 Floyo vs Fye (metaknight)
etc
2:01:00 Grand finals genmuh vs Flow-yo. hype ditto matches

Recently uploaded on VGBC, Bonz's Yoshi vs. GimR's Mr. Game & Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lA2TzXuIkU.
Too much rolling (especially towards, ack!) and unsafe SH bairs. He has to respect the GnW autoguard Usmash whenever he decides to try land on top of him. Egg toss approaches would've been more effective rather than going in and get constantly punished by GnW Bairs.

God 2 stock is so
Bad.

Why is Yoshi videos only losses.
I expected this to be something breathtaking since it was posted. But it wasn't, just another loss.

I think Bonz is a newbie and seeing GimR punishing him and not being super aggressive was probably GimR trying to let Bonz figure out and play a bit better. So, maybe inexperience and stream jitters? One comment said Bonz was okay, but needed to do safer things and not roll as much. With a little practice, I think Bonz could do well as a Yoshi.

That could be said with everyone.

Thanks fer the vid I guess, but mostly mean link something that's from a different country where they obviously don't have an account on here to show us their videos (most likely posting it for their cities stream recognition or advice) while other options for people posting is hoping it's a really good video somebody happened upon that we should all see.

Basically, just give us something if it's worth watching. If it's not, it's just a +1 in post count and not worth talking about cause the player most likely doesn't have an account if they didn't link it here themselves so they wouldn't see our advice anyways if we posted any.

Eh, people sometimes don't follow a lot of channels even if they're big, so I just link them and some threads are set up like an archive and whether it's good or not, they can still notice and critique things regardless if the player is here or not or cares or not.

So, Zudenka's Yoshi? I did search Zudenka, but did was Zudenka's stuff not kept track of?

vs. Kudemo's Greninja: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuQ7lEx7WRw.

vs. Kam's Fox: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnuU96q7dQY.

vs. Kudemo's Dr. Mario: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42B0SKdgu5M.

Apparently a recent tournament was held in Dublin, Ireland, Scarfelt's Yoshi vs. HenryFlame's Ike: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3Xa8WgfMg0.

I don't know who they are and they're friendlies matches so don't expect great stuff, Dino's Yoshi vs. Jak's Luigi (1): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLURuJemES4. I'm not going to link the rest since Jak's goes up to 5 videos total, so just check out tidycats29's channel. I think the uploader is Dino, so some friendly, unknown Yoshi.

The others are more like one against Neji's Peach (1): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCsbroyd_hA.

Isaac's Mega Man (1): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLoNVzGwDxc.

Demon's Captain Falcon - the only one video so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rp_yfo_eJoA.

Visto's Pit (1) which is 3 months old, so play style and skill is probably different: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJi9cu9vUZ4.

And Emilia's Rosalina (1) which is also 3 months old: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dztGPLAZG24.

Moving on, Gerson's Yoshi vs. Kevon24's Mega Man: [1], [2], and [3]. Probably some friendlies.

Akenaide's Yoshi vs. Kinka's Yoshi (1): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09r8BrHBoxY.

Cacchination's Falco and Yoshi vs. Shin Beligerante's Iggy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lblllmZa8U.

From Australia, Dia's (Diandra's) Ness and Yoshi vs. Akuma's Ness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L08ZTTWeKD4.

I can't read Japanese, so I don't know if this was posted before; Yoshi vs. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KX0bzxpXiVg.

I never linked Muramishi's combo video here... Performed by Jei L.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPP_LdL1Rk8.

Well I mean, the OP hasn't been updated since October. But now that's a real post. Time to skim through all of em, and if Yoshi winz. Then watch entire thing.

Edit: First video and Zude does literally what I'd do. Egg to nair regardless if they're shielding. Even rest of games felt like watching me playing.
lol

Its cool now with these video, we can finally have different style of yoshi.
We used to only have a defensive, semi-campy style of Yoshi but now with Flow-yo we got a real good aggresive Yoshi :)

We should seperate user video / tournament video and remake the first post though -.-

I will get on it...eventually. What do you mean by separate user videos/tournament videos? As in separate lists or something for people that are on here and one for those who aren't?

Basically seperate the : "I want to get better, what do I do wrong" with "This is a yoshi I want to watch to learn from".
If I want to be bold: Seperate "pros" from others because when I come to these topic, yes I can point out the last guy mistakes but after 2 months... I don't think he cares. Most of the time, I come to this topic to learn from the best and I think a lot of people do as well.

I think we should have 2 threads:

One for videos of good Yoshi plays and other for people who want advice.

Hmm... Perhaps a tournament (players) videos thread and a general and advice video thread?

Not exactly.

I was actually thinking about a thread with the propose of videos of trully good yoshis were other players can watch and learn from it, and other for players to get advice.

Of course, if somehow a very good Yoshi posts in the advice thread, I see no problem i'm also putting the vid on the other thread.

Possibly, but then what about those who post their tournament vids for advice?
We'll have three threads, then! One for general videos, one for tournament level videos, and one for critiquing! Or 4 threads. :p

Well, my idea was the tournament videos would be like high level Yoshi videos while the general one is for everyone including high level Yoshi and low level Yoshi plays. Eh, I'm not the mod for here, so I don't really know.

I don't think we need multiple threads, guys. At most, we should just have a "recommended videos" section in the OP.
In terms of cleanliness and logically speaking one thread totally works, but I think there might be a virtue in keeping them separate. Showcasing Yoshis that are clearly great gives a standard that newer players such as myself and others can see quickly what the standard is for amazing playing. It helps foster the "Yoshi scene" by giving some players legitimacy as great. Nikes and Slush are godlike obviously but when I come into the board and say "Hey, who are the best Yoshis in the world" the major response was "IDK, Nikes and Slush are really good" it seems like it isn't clear who people are looking at. As far as I know they should be included in that list but I feel like it would be clearer at this point.

A separate thread is not needed to showcase the good Yoshis. All we need is to literally add a section in the OP of this thread (it can even be the first section) with showcase matches/recommended viewing.

The reason for the "idk" response is that there really aren't central figures yet. I still think most of the Yoshis that are active are playing gimmicky SH Egg Toss and Fair-heavy styles, which aren't going to last as the meta goes on. We have tons of Yoshis that are about evenly skilled at this level, so picking one or two is difficult.

This issue is compounded by the fact that Yoshi videos are so rare to begin with, and since most videos are of Yoshi LOSING, we have even less recommended matches to show people.

That could achieve similar if not identical results for sure, just giving a (definitely limited) perspective as a newer person in this mix; and I could see what you're saying about the lack of standouts yet. I guess time will tell with that one.

I agree that one thread is probably good enough. Tutorial videos can go in the first section, since that's what you need when you're starting out, then good match videos in the next section, since that's where you go once you have the basics down.

Also, I'm not quite sure where this concept that Yoshi has to win for a video to be useful is coming from. What we're ultimately looking for is examples of smart neutral play and smart matchup strategies. If you have a Yoshi who puts up a great fight against a top Sheik / Diddy player but ultimately loses, that could still contain a lot of useful data.

I think Yoshi might be getting popular in NorCal. There were 4 different Yoshi players at Come On and Ban #10 while other characters had maybe two players and most of them were established like Sean's Diddy. Good or not, maybe someone can bring more Yoshi awareness.

The Sandwhale's Yoshi and Triple D vs. Count's Pikachu: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo_7jU61XM0.

UFO's Yoshi vs. SKS's Sheik: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERWEmio2QGo.

(Literally a) Pink's Yoshi vs. BatShark's ZSS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6rN-Z8p43k.

Having some hard data that Yoshi actually, y'know, wins sometimes is important for his validation as a character. It also serves as references for what DEFINITELY works in MUs as a baseline. If you lost, something was wrong. The problem with having nearly all losing matches means we can't just easily point to something and go "watch this if you wanna beat Sheik/Diddy/Rosa/Sonic/etc". Instead, we must say "watch these if you wanna learn the MU, but then you gotta kinda figure out what went wrong and then fix it. Let us know how that goes!"

They contain useful data, but they're most useful for critique and player improvement. Successes are good demos of a character's worth.

This isn't a professional tournament; it's more of a friendly one: TheRunawayGuys just uploaded their first video featuring Yoshiller2's Rosalina and Yoshi vs. ProtonJon's Ike: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9PdlN-J8zI.

So, they might not be the greatest players and the commentary isn't professional by all means, but they aren't bad and it's just SSB being played fun and competitively. What's not to like?

Oh, and for those who want to know the outcome and don't want to watch the video...
Yoshi wins.
