Cool calm pete, EL-P, Aesop Rock, Cage, Yak Ballz, Cannibal Ox, Atmosphere, C-Rayz Walz, Rob Sonic, Blockhead, MF Doom, Nujabes, Jedi Mind Tricks..if you like them I got MADDDD more on my ipod. Sorry if I said some artists that were said all ready but all I see in this thread is arguments over Jay-z, Nas, Rakim, talib and ****... -.-
Truth be told, I've only heard a few of those. My favorite underground dood so far is Elzhi.

So there isn't a Relapse 2 coming? Just a couple of tracks?
It's coming out, Relapse Refill's just first. Relapse 2 will be its own album.

I ain't been rhymin like Common since"

plus he straight up lied when he said he'd never make an album. None of that sounds legendary.
Name one rapper that's never straight up lied.

Plus, Jay-z has went platinum 10 times.

Sites that rated jay-z as one of the top 10 emcees of all time (granted some of these are stupid lists but you get the point):

...and many others.

I don't know how you can logically deny that he is a legend.

Artists That probably haven't been mentioned that are amazing.

Dezmatic.

www.myspace.com/dezfu ckinmatic remove space

Dude is just so fresh. Doesn't sound like ANYONE else out in the game yet keeps it ill.

Go download his mixtape Bigfoot's **** at www.dezmatic.com

honestly its not like anything you've ever heard before but its ****ing ill. his steez is soo fresh
He's hard to describe but very sick.

Hibernation
www.myspace.com/hibethegod

this dude has bar none THE illlest rhyme schemes in existence. His myspace songs arent a good showcase of his talent. heres one of his older tracks.
This guy is a drug addled nutcase with an internet connection and a microphone but hes AMAZING. His rhyme schemes are lightyears ahead of most peoples. Keeps like 6 syllable patterns going while rhyming about some gully business.
Straight Slaughter.mp3 - 3.46MB
This is just a 60 bar freeverse. I know his style is kind of wierd but i dunno I honestly think he's one of the best to do it. Just listen to the lines. Might take a few listens to actually understand the illness. If you want more of this guy lemme know i got all the **** hes ever done.
Heres another one about addiction thats AMAZING
Hibernation - Dear Sobriety _Produced by Kirby Pucket_.mp3 - 4.07MB
Just listen to the rhyme schemes. This guy is next level. Honestly.

Macklemore.

www.myspace.com/macklemore

kind of random addition to my list. Probably the best guy out there doing the emotional rap thing but hes also versatile with some club **** but keeps its fun and lyrical.
Peep his otherside song that's kind of a retake on the rhcp song. Great song about addiction, very deep lyrics.

Spoonfull
www.myspace.com/spoonfullhiphop

This guy is sooo ****ing dope. Listen to the song brooklyn heartbreak and be sold right away. This guy works with all live instruments done by a guy named d.mitch. totally self-sufficient homebrew artists that are blending genres like nobodies business. Quality music tho.

El-p.

www.myspace.com/elproducto

Might've been mentioned. He runs def jux and is imo the most talent on the label. Soo progressive, soo out there. Kind of hit and miss sometimes but when he hits, the song is amazing. Listen to songs like "overly dramatic truth", "league of extraordinary nobodies", or his new one "how to serve man (the meanest things i'd never say ". This dude is ridiculously talented and bringing such fresh sounds to relatively stagnant genre.

Shad
www.myspace.com/shad

Rapper from london, ontario. Best canadian rapper handsdown. This guy is amazing.

I know pretty much everything about independent hip hop, if you need music get at me. I'll post some more lists of amazing obscure artists that need attention.

I was thinking about cage and camu nighthawks and cage and Tame leak bros waterworld which are albums that are sort of like movies, well especially nighthawks which is based off a movie,

waterworld is entirley about pcp, probably one of the dopest cage albums

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2wZLeRTRes&feature=related

http://http://www.smashboards.com/n...utube.com/watch?v=RzHFi5WA81A&feature=related

nighthawks is about two crooked rogue undercover police officers, its pretty hilarious

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8bVstAqWXc&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cswyzazofoc&feature=related

but yea albums like this are awesome to listen to all at once cause its like a movie of sound which can take you to incredible places(especially if you've ingested strong drugs, or have an active imagination)

but yea anyone else know any strange or unusually themed hip hop albums?

Same here. I was going to start a hip-hop thread (expecting it to fail); then I saw this.

Lol I love you guys and your taste in music. I didn't mean to sound pretentious or some **** but ****, good ****.
Yeah, you were right though. Aesop Rock, MF Doom, and Atmosphere are some of my favorite underground-ers. Jedi Mind Tricks/AOTP are dope as well.

Some of my favorite underground songs:
* Put Your Quarter Up (Aesop Rock, MF Doom, Molemen, and Slug)
* Accordian (Madlib and MF Doom)
* Seven (AOTP)
* Dump the Clip (AOTP)
* Always Coming Back Home To You (Atmosphere)
* Basix (DJ JS-1, PackFM, and Tonedeff)

If you can't appreciate Cudi for his realness then you don't know shxt.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8QaN0qltpA - best interview ever.

Budden & Blu are sick, have listened to them before. I don't like a lot of underground because its mostly just rap. I'm more of an underground, indie, smooth, real talk person, doesn't mean I can't appreciate sick lyricism though.

(If you want to be a painter, but you suck at painting, you can't say that and be like "I know deep down I want to be a painter". if you know you suck at painting but you really want to do this, you got to perfect it.)

Kid Cudi is the best rapper under 30 years old. He's brilliant imo.

Great interview, thanks for enlightening me there. Kid Cudi hit the nail on the head when he started talking about ignorance. I have immense respect for him for saying what he said.

he just goes by DOOM now actually without the MF, "enough with the formalities" I think I heard him say about it

anyways he is the greatest rapper that has ever lived.

you guys ever noticed how he really dislikes eating pork? I know in MM Food he was talking about frying meat being bad for your heart so maybe its just a health thing but he does mention it a lot not sure if hes jewish or what. Heres' a few Im sure there are many more.

"don't eat pork in the streets of new york"

"its all a big scam to make you eat pig ham"

"never knew the price of ice or what swine cost"

"let the pork stop I got the clear meat, the vodka"

"forgot who they talking to, Too much Pork stew"

"He don't eat gelatin, hot or cold ham"

"Coughin to a coffin?, might as well scoff the pork then"

Interesting fact about Doom, but I would not say he is the greatest rapper to live. Even though I'm a huge Scarface fan, I would actually have to give it to L.L. Cool J. He's been xoing his thing ever since way back in the day, and he is a large, important rapping icon. He was also inspiration for Face himself.
