I've been boxing like MAD. How many boxing points do you guys have? I'm up to 992, and now I'm trying out Baseball. I think I'm gonna go pick up Excite Truck tomorrow after reading a bunch of bad stuff about Red Steel.

Is online happening or when is it happening? And what do I buy to use my Virtual points?

I've gotten online already. I've done the only system update they have right now which grants you access to the Wii shop channel. You can buy some virtual console games right now, but they didn't have any other channels avaible.

P.S. Wii boxing owns.

where there is no broadband
Okay, my friend said that if you buy the Nintendo WiFi thingy it gives you a high speed internet at least kinda. While I do not think this is possible I would like to be absolutley sure. Do you need broadband for everything nowadays? Since the VC games are stored on the SD memory cards (they are, right?), could I download games at someone's house who has high-speed and put the card in my Wii? I want the old games and need a loop-whole. Thanks.

I can't play Zelda 'til wednseday (I can never spell that right), Thanksgiving break. All day Zelda. Can't wait.

I have four of the things I most wanted this Christmas: Zelda, Wii, FFXII, Gears of War. I am split in too many directions!

Imagine if they made downloadable Wii sports games...volley ball.....hockey.....football.....too bad I couldn't get them.

*goes to Wii*

Alright, to answer you question guys. To get online, if you have a wireless internet connection, go to Wii options in the Wii menu. From there go to Internet connection and search for an access point. Once you get an access point it will test your connection. If your connection is successful, then your Wii will do a system update, so that you have all of the current channels and also games in the Wii shop channel. I believe there is a way to get online with a wired connection as well. It said something about an ethernet cable, but I don't see an ethernet port. I don't know much about the wired connection.

Applejack, I believe you should be able to go somewhere and get an internet connection to get your virtual console games. I don't see why not.

Nite is right on the money. I did all of that at 2am this morning.

On an unrelated note: Who wants to share wii friend codes?

Go in your wii and go to your adress book. You will be able to register other people's numbers and find your own. I just realized you can now even add your wii code to your profile here in smashboards :).

I may have had to stand in line outside Wally World for 7hrs, but i can honestly say it was totally worth it. The wii is like nothing I have ever played before.

Ending your game.
Man, I had the best time standing in line with 7 of my friends. Once we finally got our Wii's in Target, we went to the corner and made a Wii block-fortress and took a picture. It was worth every minute in the cold.

Is far as online support, none of the launch games have it, which is a real shame. However, many games have been anounced as having interest in online, including Battalion Wars 2, Animal Crossing, the new Pokemon game, and of course Super Smash Bros Brawl. This may not seem much, but keep in mind they are working on it.

Once again, you can either go to a retail store or purchase points at the Online Store. Be warned, as some retail stores aren't using the recommended one cent = one point conversion. Prices for the 2000 points card have been reported to be $14.99-$24.99. If you're buying a 2000 points card for more than $20, you might as well purchase it online.

FYI, Circuit City is apprently having a $5 off any accessory over $19.99 and up (2000 Wii Points Cards included). Something to consider for those interested in some of the launch VC games or missing a few accessories...

Okay, my friend said that if you buy the Nintendo WiFi thingy it gives you a high speed internet at least kinda. While I do not think this is possible I would like to be absolutley sure. You do need Broadband support in order to download/use a majority of the Wii's special features. It doesn't have to be WiFi because you can still use a USB ethernet cable to connect to the Internet. Besides, there's two huge updates you need when you first connect, and they take a while even with high speed. You can only imagine how long it would take with dial-up...

VC games can be stored on SD cards, but you probably won't max out the 512MB Flash drive anytime soon...according to Nintendo, downloading a game onto a SD card DOES NOT allow you to transfer VC games. The games are licensed to the Wii that downloads it and cannot be transferred in any way. You can only play games that your Wii has downloaded and no on else's. You are going to either use a friend's hi-speed or steal some of your neighbor's unsecured wireless. ;)

Start putting you Wii friend's code in your profie. I'll have to put mine up when I get the chance...

After I scouted out IGN for info on the Wii, I decided I wanted a Wii. Badly. Very badly.

*Checks eBay*

EDIT: Hmm, about $100 above retail price. I'll wait till Christmas.

More Wiis are reported to already be on the way. When I asked the some people at Gamestop, they said more should be coming out by the end of this week or so. Just give some stores a call and ask. Nintendo might keep the 4 million Wii promise after all...

Oh, that isn't the problem.

I'm just a poor boy. I have 'bout $70 -- not even close to enough for a Wii. My reservation would've been already placed if I had something a bit closer, say $200.

The money will pour in after Christmas with gift cards and all.

When I finally purchase a Wii, I'm thinking 'bout:
1 Wiimote and nunchauk
1-2 cases for the Wiimotes
Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz
Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess

Not that I'll be able to afford it all, or anything.

So... the LEDs in the disc drive are broken on my Wii. I'm gonna have to send it in to Nintendo and get a new one.

Once I beat Zelda (which is amazing by the way), that is.

For the DLing old games, yes, it is impossible to transfer games bought on a different Wii. However, you could still take your Wii to some other location with supiroir internet power to dl the games/updates/whatever. Just make sure that your Wii is what's doing the dling.

I'm finding the Wii useful as something to wake me up on these early mornings before I go to school, plus I can remind myself what homework needs to be done. The typing is at the speed of someone using one finger on a keyboard, which I can tolerate.

Oh, and Zelda does kick ***.

Well, of those still looking for a Wii, more are supposed to be released during, you guessed it, Black Friday. Needless to say, you will have to literally fight through the crowds to get one...if you value your life, then it would probably be best to wait until next week. Give the store a call just to be sure though.

My EBGames is getting some on Black Friday. Just for those who didn't manage to get one.

How long til we have the whole Wii code thing under location?

And question: Can you or would you even need to save games on SD cards?

[Edit:]

Ack! You already have the Wii code things.

Searching for my own way of the ninja.
You'd need to save stuff on your SD card if you run out of room on the console, which, if you download older games, will happen sooner or later.
Firmware upgrades, and who knows what else will add to the memory taken up.

Black friday, eh?

I'll have to call a couple of Wal-Marts and see what they have to say about Wii this week. I could actually afford to wait in line, as I'm on break.

No, Pain, it's not. That idea faded.

Oh, question: How do you go about sending messages to your friends? I've added them and they've added me, but to no avail. Given, I only waited 5 minutes for all of that to register...

More time, maybe?

When is the google channel going to come out and when are the weather channel/news channels going to start working? Ive currently been able to connect online with the wii so i wanted to know if these things are already out and my internet sucks, or are they not out yet?

Also, exactly how do you send messeges to your friends and how do you know where to send them to?

you mean they don't turn on at all? B/c if they're not on all the time, it's supposed to be that way.

What are the firmware updates for? VC and what else?

edit: the weather and news channels are not available yet.

As for google, i've never heard of that. The only thing related was i heard a rumor that google was buying nintendo, but since that's complete BS i don't know where you got that idea. The only thing google related is going online and going to google.com through the opera browser.

Yeah, im talking about how you got on the internet to buy old nes, n64 games, etc and then they have another section where you can get channels. It says that there is a google one that connects you to the internet and you can surf the web through google. Anyone know when this is coming out? Also, what is the opera browser and how do i get it?

I still haven't been able to get online. I did manual setup, and everything was in there. It just wouldn't connect. My router was connected. I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that I was trying on launch day.

Oh, and Wii is amazing. I just beat the
Forest Temple
in Zelda (with essentially no guide) and I'm going to try to beat the game by only looking at guides when I'm absolutely stumped. In all honesty, this game is shaping up to surpass OoT. It's too early to tell though. I haven't even gotten the bow yet.

As for Wii Sports, I love it. Tennis is fun. Baseball is great (and I HATE HATE HATE baseball in real life). Golf is the deepest game, by far. Bowling is fun in short spurts. Boxing is the worst, but still fun. Boxing justs seems sloppy. It's more fun than Fight Night, though :p

I've had barely any time with Red Steel (I don't have it, my friend does). I only played 2 player, and it was a blast...when we weren't looking for each other. Four player will probably be great, but it won't be as good as Goldeneye.

Jeah...I imagine if you didn't have a Wii, this thread would be just downright depressing.

Google Channel (known as the INTERNET CHANNEL, because that's what it is), is a mystery to me too. I thought it was with launch.

The Firmware, as far as I can tell, is just for the shop channel.

Sending messages at this point is somewhat....lacking. To send a message, go to your message board (from the Channels screen, hit the bottom right hand corner thing with the mail symbol). From there, hit the icon that is writing a letter (the only one left that isn't Wii menu and calender). Then, go to address book. From there, you are able to add in a Wii's code by clicking 'register'.

Both Wii's have to be registered to one another before any mail/Mii's can be sent. Trust me, me and 2 of my friends spent all day figuring all this junk out.

Once both Wii's are registered to one another, you are able to freely send Mii's/messages to one another. Take note, however, that it is an INCREDIBLY slow process.

Once you've registered your Wii's to your friends, you are then able to get Miis from their Wii to come to you (without them sending them to you) by allowing for Mii's to travel between Wii's. This may only be on your friends part, but it's a good idea for you to do it as well if you wish to share Mii's. Then, just wait a moment or two. After a while, go to the Mii channel and hit the Mii Parade. If you're lucky, you'll see some Mii's there.

I've gotten Kyle and Adam.

And Confucious. Not sure about that one yet. :-/

Hope that helped, sorry it was a novel.

[BTW, add me as your friend and PM me your code. That way, we can add each other and if you need help on anything, you can just send me a message concerning it. I have a feeling that I won't be on the boards very often anymore.

That goes for anyone who wants to have an extra Wii friend.]

[Edit:]

Wow...great news for those who can't connect to the internet. Yes, I'm lying.

http://wii.ign.com/articles/746/746907p1.html

I only have trouble sometime, and neither of those codes looks familiar.
