Stryks, if your WalMart is open 24 hours, then it should be selling at 12 AM. That only makes sense. As to what time you need to line up, I haven't a clue. Depends on a lot of things...mainly how many Wii's your WalMart will be getting and the kind of people who live around that area.
If you call them up, will they know, or will I get some ******* who got his GED to become manager and can't plug in a toaster?

I reserved my Wii at Blockbuster. So I'm hoping more went for the Playstation 3. The system it self is costing me $317 because I live in Canada and my province has 14% tax.

SMRPG, that sucks so bad...tax here is only 8%. It still kills me, though.

Paranoid, today me and a friend who are camping for the PS3 called Walmart attempting to get some information about where to camp/when to come/how many/etc...

We got transferred 2 times, then, after a 25 minute phone call (LONG waits), we got a 'call us back sooner to launch.'

And Stryks, you should buy Zelda early to ensure that when you DO in fact get your Wii, you'll have Zelda.

Hell, hang it up on the wall and look at it. It'll be worth it.

I also preordered TP and the Virtual Console controller before getting the Wii. In my case, I'm going to have to camp out in front of Target on launch day if I hope to get one. Though I'm not sure how early to go, since one person said they were getting in line at 5am on SATURDAY. :urg:

I'll eventually get a Wii so there's no point in dissing Zelda now. You could always frame your TP box and put in on your shelf until you get your Wii...

Being crazy is a requirement and a trait that your must expose if you wish to get the Wii the day it comes out.

News.
I called Target and WalMart. Neither took preorders. Neither is opening at any special time. Neither has any idea how many they will be getting. So Wiiseeker might be useless :urg:

the wii will be better than x box 360 and ps3 its cuz QUEEN sings them Wii will wii will rock you
OMG I thought of that way longer before you did
Can't believe what I heard on Channel 7 News this morning. They mentioned that PS3 and Wii were going to be huge and everything, and they tell a breif bio of each. Then they say that Nintendo was "the loser of the last console race". Great, the first time I hear them being compared to one another and it's pretty much all negative. And I thought Nintendo didn't want to be compared since it's an entirely different breed. But to hear that was embrassing and totally uncalled for in Nintendo's half, even if it is true.

Eorlings: same plan here, man. Straight up.

OK, someone please answer me this: component cables?
What's the deal?
Do you need a special TV to use them?
Are they plugged into the same spot as NORMAL cables, they just make the games look better?
How much do they cost?

Sorry, I know nothing about this stuff, but if I'm gonna pick up cables, I might as well do it when I buy the game and see if these cables really make the difference everyone says they do.

Could someone please shed some light into this?

Geeks know everything

Basically, it gives images a cleaner look than you would normally see with just regualr AV cables. Think HD, but not really HD per se...

As for cost, I think the official Nintendo component cable will be around $30, at least according to gamestop. You can buy third party cables which are cheaper, but beware that some are not as good as others...

I'm slightly interested in this too...I assume component cables hook into HD or Plasma TVs, correct? So, if I'm still in the Standard Definition Age (like a neanderthal...), is it even worth getting 'em?

Component cables plug into EDTV and HDTV (EDTV's are the same as normal tv's except for that they support component cables, or so I heard)

EDTV stands for Enhanced Defenition TV in case you were curious.

Do you think the official Japanese Wii's component cable will work on the USA Wii? If so then I'm orderign mine from play-asia.

In order to utilize the component cables you will need, at the very least, an EDTV. Good luck at finding one of those. Anyway, these days, you will need a HDTV in order to utilize the component cables.

with the component cables, it lets you play the game in progressive scan mode: this does 2 things: it greatly brightens the color (since the color information is being separated onto 3 cables, instead of being carried on a single cable as in the composite cable), and it also makes the image a little sharper.

Sorry for the double-post.

This is incorrect: there are SDTVs, which are 480 lines interlaced (Standard definition TVs) that have ports for component cables, but do not support 480p (progressive scan mode). If that's the case, you will only get better color.

It's a shame that the Wii didn't support HD, and have HDMI cables...

Also, whatever happened to the possibility that the Wii could plug directly into a compy monitor?

Component cables only work with newer TVs for the most part, so your run of the mill 1990s TV probably won't be able to use it. As far as image difference, having read reviews of Twilight Princess, you do notice a huge difference between regular AV and component.

It's really cool if you have it, but don't go buying a new TV unless you have the money and you REALLY care about graphics. Myself, I don't have an HDTV, but I really don't care that much...

Oh and the part about plugging into monitors, Nintendo did retract taht statement earlier. I guess they didn't have time, which is a shame. :ohwell:

Oh well, np, I don't know much about tv's anyway :p just posted form what I remember a friend of mine told me.

Nintendo's new little white box can send a progressive-scan signal to an HDTV or EDTV (an "ehanced definition" TV that can display a widescreen non-interlaced picture). This progressive scan signal, which is 480p, is smoother and cleaner than what you'd get from a regular interlaced signal which is 480i. The only problem is that you can't receive a progressive-scan signal from a standard composite RCA cable connection or from an S-video connection. You have to have a component cable at the very least to get a progressive-scan picture fed to your HDTV or EDTV.

I might point out, however, that if you don't have an HDTV, but have a middle to upper quality TV, it should have an S-video port.

While S-video is not nearly as good as component (it doesn't support progressive scan, but it separates the color into 2 sections, so the quality IS better), chances are your TV will have this port.

Also, S-video cables shouldn't be that much more than the normal composite cables.

edit: that article is mostly correct, except that they stated 480p is widescreen. You can play a game in progressive scan mode on a 4:3 aspect TV. Of course, all EDTVs, and most HDTVs are 16:9 format...so....(still, the best HDTV on the market right now is, believe it or not, 4:3 aspect ratio...go figure).

Chances are Nintendo will produce an S-video cable for their system; they've done so ever since the days of the SNES.

Third-party company? That's almost a guarantee that there will be a Wii S-video cable made by them.

I'm not sure, exactly what you mean by your second question.

The Wii will NOT come with an s-video cable; s-video, although older than composite, never caught on, and therefore is not the standard. It's a real shame too; S-video is vastly superior to composite.

I mean the normal S-video cables found in stores. The normal kind that can plug from a pc/laptop to a tv's S-video...or camera to S-video...thought maybe that one will work for the Wii.

My 20" LCD TV has component ports... go me. That means I'll have... 5 systems hooked up to it simultaneously + standard cable.

But anyway, I am somewhat disappointed that I will not be able to camp out for a Wii on launch day due to a business trip... but if all goes well, I can have some other family member pick it up for me. I figure I have 6 decent video game dealerships near me... I'll find one somewhere.

I can't wait guys. I'm so close to owning a Wii. I went and finished paying off my Wii, Twilight Princess, and Budokai Tenkaichi 2 today. It's gonna be too good.

Omnigamer- So much rep! I bet you would put me to 5 bars. (Please? lol)

I live out in the middle of nowhere, and if our Wal-Mart is supposed tobe getting 50 Wiis, I would THINK that I could just walk in at noon and get one.

Then I can spend all Sunday afternoon playing it. Joyous.

Could someone answer me this, as I'm confused:

Will SUPER Mario Bros. be on the VC at launch? Because if it is, I want to buy it. If not...then there's no VC games at launch I want.

Wow I just remembered that I was told that my cousin started working at Target yesterday, so there may still be hope for me. Is it ok for her to hold 1 or 2 Wii's for me and a friend? They might not let her since it's a much wanted item or the fact that she's a new worker.

What to do...

Hooray. Spending $750 on a 26" CRT HDTV earlier this year can finally pay off. With component cables in hand (assuming I can get them) I'll be able to play Zelda in widescreen and 480p. Yay for me.

Destiny Smasher, the Virtual Console list is:

NES - 500 points ($5)

Baseball
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.
Ice Hockey
The Legend of Zelda
Mario Bros.
Pinball
Soccer
Solomon's Key (Tecmo)
Tennis
Urban Champion
Wario's Woods

SNES - 800 points ($8)

F-Zero
SimCity

N64 - 1000 points ($10)

Super Mario 64

Genesis - 800 points ($8)

Altered Beast
Columns
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Ecco the Dolphin
Golden Axe
Gunstar Heroes
Sonic the Hedgehog
Space Harrier II
Toe Jam & Earl

TurboGrafix-16 - 600 points ($6)

Bomberman '93 (NA, Europe)
Bonk's Adventure (NA, Europe)
Dungeon Explorer (NA, Europe)
Super Star Soldier (NA, Europe)
Victory Run (NA, Europe)
Bomberman '94 (Japan)
Necromancer (Japan)
New Adventure Island (Japan)
Yeah, so Super Mario Bros. isn't on there (the one where Peach picks turnips, I think?). Honestly, that list is a bit lacking. . .but I will definitely get the original Mario Bros. just for old times' sake, and Gunstar Heroes, because Treasure is God.

SMB 2 is the turnip one.
PS, if you want Gunstar Heros, buy the GBA Super Gunstar Heroes. It is basically a remake with much better graphics. I have it, it rocks.

Ever since they dropped Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country from the launch list, the Virtual console has lost all appeal to me at the moment. The only good news is that the really anticipated ones will be released sometime in 2007.

Any game that sold decently and/or was part of one of Ninty's big franchises can and WILL come out eventually. Third party games are questionable, but SMB, SMW and DKC wil surely be on the VC in the hopefully near future.

Ah, I have some news that might be excellent. I don't have a source, due to the fact that I read it in a magazine (Nov. '07 issue) earlier today.

It basically said that for NES games, you can use your Wii remote to play.

That may not be good news for everyone, but I was *****ing about it earlier. So, there ya go. If you just wanna DL NES games, then you don't have to pay an extra 20$ for that controller.
