Average human reaction time is .26 seconds, if I remember correctly. Gamers such as ourself are probably around .15-.19, and the really hardcore might even be lower. There's not much chance, if the time it takes to recognize a motion is a thousandth of a second (.001), that we're going to notice it. As for just plain old wireless faultiness, all 3 consoles use wireless, so it doesn't really matter. Choose the lesser of three evils, if you'd like.

I thought virtual console was region free in English speaking countries?

Two games from the VC that I need to get that are universally acclaimed as some of the best games ever: Super Mario 64 and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

OK, seriously, I SAW noticeabe lag in Twilight Princess in an interview recently.
It was either Gamespot or 1Up, I don't remember which.

But they had one guy, pointing his mote at the screen, aiming, and the screen was right in front of him, and there was noticeable lag.
I'm just hoping this doesn't exist in the final product.

Are you sure it wasnt the video? It could have been your internet or the video.
Also, There could have been other factors involved. I highly doubt the wii is laggy because otherwise it would be in gamespot.

Because we all know how reliable and how reputable a journalist source Gamespot is.

Here's an idea: how about someone in NY just go to the Nintendo World Store and just play on any of the Wii kiosks that they have set up there, and tell us if they have lag or not? Granted, they're only using Wii Sports as a demo, but it should be sufficient enough to determine if there's lag or not.

Maybe I'll go later on today to see if there's lag with the controller. I haven't gone yet because there's huge lines. . .but I'll try to do it today.

My GameStop locations should be getting a Wii in sometime this week. I can probably report back by tomorrow or so.

Anyone know if EB Games, GameStop, Babages, etc., have kiosks up yet? It would be worth my time just to drive down to the mall and try it out (by wrenching the thing out of a little kids hand, probably). I heard someone mention that a GameStop had the Wii, but no controllers or games - Are wii's supposed to be headed out to all store chains right about now?

From what the guy in my EB says, they should already have Wii's. Then he went on to say that they should be getting them this week.

I need some help. How much do y'all think I could get for my GameCube? I know probably not a lot this close to the Wii launch, but i'm curious. I've had it since the day it came out and it's in like-new condition. There's nothing wrong with it at all.

$25 to about $100 for the Gamecube alone. But if you are going to sell something else, well, that might depend. But you also gotta consider about how many people are probably gonna sell their 'Cube once they get their Wiis. So it could be a lot more cheaper than that.

Yea, I know. Really, I don't want to get rid of it. *gets nostalgic* But I need some extra cash. I probably won't sell it. I just wanted to know how much I could get for it.

*posts and near same time as primusfan* Oh, than try Ebay

When do you think Wal-Mart will get Wiis in?...
That's all that is around here.

Gamestop/EBgames is offering $25 dollar credit...at least around where I live. You can include any controller, so if you have some ******** third-party controller...I was told that the amount might increase after the Wii is released because the same happened for Xbox when Xbox 360 came out.

Most people won't need their cubes after the Wii is released. The only thing you would need it for are for the few games that take advantage of the cube's limited online capability or maybe the Gameboy player. I can imagine it possible that a game or two might mess up on the Wii, but who knows at this point...

EB had a promotion where if you traded in your GC towards a Wii, you'd get an extra 20 bucks. I got 50 bucks for my GC.

It was announced they would be regionally locked. I asked a Nintendo rep at a Nintendo event, he said it should be just between languages (IE English, ***, ect) but he wasn't sure. He did say it would seem to be a really bad move if it wasn't.

Destiny Smasher, I had a go at the Twilight Princess demo yesterday, and didn't notice any lag. Granted, I only played for like 5 minutes, and I wasn't exactly looking for any lag, but the aiming and stuff seems fine. It wasn't calibrated properly to the TV, so I had to point the remote at the sensor bar, which made it harder, but that can be fixed by setting it up properly.

What the heck? Why are you all getting your panties in a wad over lag? Not a single journalist has reported lag, including ones with extensive time with a Wii, and yet you're all worrying about it. Seriously, get a grip.

get a grip... of a Wii controller that is. With the Wii coming out in less that 10 days (can't wait till friday so I can say less than 3) I think all the little bugs and lag and such have been worked out of the system. But only time will truely tell.

Because we all know how reliable and how reputable a journalist source Gamespot is.
It wasn't a journalist, it was a VIDEO, and it was Nate Bihldorf from the Localization team playing it, and the video was running perfectly fine, and there was a slight amount of lag that was noticeable.
I'm swearing to you, I could see the lag.
Maybe the environment they were in was wonky.
Also, other journalists did note an amount of lag in aiming, and wondered if it had to do with the light/environment they were playing in. Nintendo responded, "Probably."

Obviously, I can't judge it so much until I actually USE it myself, I'm not saying it's bad and it's gonna be all laggy, I'm just expressing concern based on what I've seen. And I think I'm entitled to be critical of something I'm gonna spend $250 on.

Of course, with the Wii coming out in just over a week, my worries will probably be put to rest soon enough. If, that is, I can GET one.

.26 seconds is about average, .22 is great. It's extremely good if somebody can get under .2 consistently. Gamers are generally tuned to have faster reflexes, but the difference isn't quite as extreme as what you stated (fastest possible may be near .16, but the vast majority of people are lucky to get an average of 5 under .23) . You can test it yourself; there are tons of reflex tester flash programs on the web (for example, here).

(Sorry this is regarding a post from mildly far back in the topic, but I just wanted to add this)

I dont understand the rating system. Average is 261.2. St.Dev is 29.02. Under "Finished" it has 76.54. And there's a 333 in the top, left corner.

Anyways, my reflexes always slow down when I'm tesing them versus real life stuff so I'm not too concerned.

I just tried a demo of the Wii today at Gamestop. The Nintendo rep was activating the system when I got there, so I was second in line to try it. My first impression was that the controller is so light, you'll barely notice that you're holding it. I didn't notice any lag at all, so people need to stop worrying. Excite Truck was the demo they had, but you have to finish all these training stages before you can actually race and stuff. Naturally, it was hard to play at first, but once you're used to the controller, it's awesome. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. I'll have to go back again later...

In other words, if you know a Gamestop/EBgames near you, check to see if they have a demo set up either today or tomorrow. According to the rep, Gamestop/EB are the major chains who are going to have demos set up at the moment. Gamecrazy might have some later on, but they haven't received any word. Get going! :)

Ok, we all know, by now that the Wii supports progressive scan; here's a question though: if I am playing a Gamecube game on the Wii, can it be played in progressive scan mode too?

I would hope so....

Jeah...couldn't figure out how to read it.

On other news, my Target has a Ps3 kiosk. They were showing some racing game, so I stepped up and took the control (there was no line).

The controller is ABSURDLY light. Anyways, I was kind of...underwelmed? Is that even a word? If it is, I am that. The graphics were certainly not anything pleasing, especially not something that I would expect to be on a next gen system.

They should have the Wii thing up in a few days...I'll check it out.

(I forgot to put the decimal in, .23)

Now I want to play the Wii, the nearest game store is a long way away though...

If I camp at Wal-Mart could I just stay in the store and wait? Or would that be loitering (or whatever its called)?

i dont think wal-mart is really too concerned,

the one here told us if you show up a couple hours before midnight, they give you a number, and then at midnight they call off numbers, and said they should have about 20 or something? So I mean, you could always find somethin to do.

Are there ANY places that are still doing in-store pre-ordering? I know I should've done it sooner but now I really want to pre-order, but I can't find any places that are still doing it.

Hmm, I know it's totally pointless, but I wonder what the boot-up sequence is like. I remember when I turned on my cube for the very first time ever I thought the cube rolling around to form the GC logo was super awesome. Maybe the Wii will just have the two i's doing something. Iuno.

The Wii start-up isnt anything. You turn the console on and it goes straight to the Wii channels.

:O

How boring.

Reading through the online guide that was posted a few posts above, I notice that all VC games can be played with a GC controller. Just wondering; is there any actual advantage the classic controller has over a GC controller? I mean, would there be any point in a GC owner buying a classic controller or would it be money wasted?
