Paranoid, a few pages back I mentioned that they had talked about it, but then I hadn't heard anything about it and all I heard was about the classic controller.

It is old news, but it hasn't been mentioned in forever, and it was starting to worry me.

Ah, I meant to say that in my post before. Sorry. Where it says 'this might not be good news for everyone', I meant to say 'this might not be news for everyone'.

Ack!

But jeah, I knew it already, but I couldn't find it confirmed anyways.

Details details...I'll learn everything I need to know as I go along. I saw a demonstration of the Mii channel and how to make your Mii. It looks so simple and cool, and you can grab and ram your character on the wall of the screen. Once I'm done taking my anger out on it, I'll play Zelda, finally.

I also pray that Super Mario RPG will be available soon for the VC.

VC List from IGN

I believe Super Mario RPG was on a list of games that have been confirmed by the ESRB for next year, so it WILL come out...problem is when. Could be January, could be December...which would suck. :(

EDIT: Scans of the instruction booklet have been posted everywhere, so why not here?

Mostly technical stuff and warnings...oh, and people have been reporting that they have gotten calls to pick up some games (Red Steel for example) starting tomorrow. So keep an eye out for games to start popping up in stores before the Wii comes out.

I'm really looking forward to all of the classic Genesis games that they will have to offer. The Virtual console is going to be awesome.

P.S. Woot 5 bars! Thanks to everybody who has repped me lately. I've gotten a good 40 + rep today.

I was just thinking, has Nintendo copyrighted the whole controller scheme in terms of how it works (in depth motion sensing and such)? Actually, first I should ask if it's even possible to do that. =/

The reason I ask is because if the Wii really does do as well as we all hope, Sony and MS are going see what made the Wii so much better than what they did and copy it. This would completely defeat Nintendo's goal of setting itself apart from their current competition.

Also, did anyone see the ad that was supposed to air last night/recently in the US during Dancing with the Stars?

Just a quick comment on the instruction manual: It seems to state that you can use (almost) any SD card for saving, and not just Nintendo branded ones. They give a website in the manual to check, but unfortunately I just tried it and came up with an error page.

forblace71: I'm not a lawyer, but I'm fairly certain that the concept of Nintendo's controllers is too vague to copywrite. Otherwise, whoever first came up with the d-pad and analog stick would own the gaming world right now.

That's been rather well known for ages.

If they tried t patent "Motion sensative controller" then they'd be laughed out of the patent office, but if the patent was for specific pieces of technology used in a certain method, then they'd be fine (IE Controller needs part A to be with part B in the way part C joins them together using joint method D)

Well, I just came back from Gamestop where they were unloading almost 23 boxes, and they are indeed selling Red Steel and some other games. Most stores probably won't be receiving packages from UPS until the later afternoon. If you've reserved games at Gamestop/EBgames, expect phone calls to go pick up your games in the coming days before launch day, though Zelda will probably not be ready until launch day. There's a good chance accessories are going to be showing up very soon, so keep an eye out.

yeah it sucks about that but they probably wanna prolong the interest in wii by leaving that game until next year, also i herd there was gonna be a new mario kart comming out w/ online play and pokemon is suppose to be the first online multiplayer game and also supose to support the connect 24 feature. i herd that you get 20 wii points if you purchase a classic controler is that true? and also is wii play going to be available in the US, i know that other countries will be able to get it when a controller is bought but will it even be released here?

There hasn't been any word on whether they will release Wii Play in the US. I guess they want to test out the Wii Channels in the US before they release Wii Play, which uses up its own Wii Channel.

Only 2000 Wii Points cards will be available in stores at the moment. I haven't heard about a 2000 points card being included with a classic controller, nor do I believe it to be true. That's an easy $20 Nintendo can make, but I could be wrong. I'm guessing they may start having contests to give away some points cards...

As for the Mario Kart and Pokemon games, those have been speculation for the most part, albeit something everyone hopes for. They've only shown snippets of Pokemon, but there has been no official mention of Mario Kart whatsoever.

Component cables have started selling online today. Check the Nintendo website for details.

Well, my local Wal*Mart officially got quite a few Wii games in last night (they were actually stupid enough to display them out in the open >_>; ). Sadly, no systems yet--they're due to arrive Saturday evening.

*chuckles* perhaps I could talk one of the employees to sell me one early. Heck, it wouldn't really surprise me, the town I live in is quite small...

Anywho, is it confirmed or disproved that you can use the Wii controller on its side for NES games?

Well, forget what I said about the component cables being on sale, because they have officially sold out. The response was overwhelming, so you'll just have to wait to get them in stores or until the accept more online orders...

Crazy.

Just a small question about the "retro" controller as I've seen practically nothing about it..

What is it? Do I have to have one of these if I'm wanting to play older Nintendo games such as Melee and what not? What's it look like? Etc, etc.

^^ thanks.

Where that boomerang came from
I just picked up my copy of Red Steel. Unfortunately, that special deathmatch mode in which each player gets a secret objective is 4-player only (it's called "Killer"). If Ubisoft doesn't make a patch for online play, that's seriously going to suck. Some of the control choices look a bit questionable, but I'm sure it'll be better in the actual game (looking at the Zelda: TP instruction book scans would have confused me had I not already known about locked-on moves).

Also, while at babages (gamestop) today, I hit the Menu button and checked out the channels. the Weather channel wasn't working yet, but the Mii channel was, so I made one of those real quick - It's pretty much like that simulated version of it that was in this thread a while ago. More importantly, I got to use the pointer function despite Excite-Truck being the only demo game, and it was great. It took a couple seconds and a step backward (to optimize the distance) to get the hang of it, but after that (and by seconds, I mean literally seconds), it was accurate and intuitive. I probably would have turned the sensativity down had I known how, cause it was displaying all the uncontrollable little motions of mind hand onto the screen. Of course, I guess that's more realistic in a shooting game, eh? (But annoying none the less). Finally, I opened up the battery pack to find 2 AA batteries and a little red button with "Syncro" written under it. This, obviously, is the button you use to synch your controller up with a specific Wii (there's also a Syncrho button on the Wii itself, in that front panel, but I couldn't check that out).

You can use the Wii Remote to play NES and TurboGrafx-16 only. Any other game requires either the Classic Controller or a Gamecube controller, but there has been some confusion as to whether ALL games can be played with the Gamecube controller. Controls are mapped to the same buttons as the originals, so if the original game has you use the D-Pad, you'll have to use the D-Pad and can't use the control stick(s).

Regardless, if you want the feel of a SNES controller when you're playing classic games, just as like it was 10+ years ago, then get the Classic Controller. Otherwise, save the $19.99 for the Wii points card. I'm sure more info will be provided after launch day...

Oh, and some clarification on the component cables. They will be avaiable early December in retail stores. Since onlie orders have been sold out, it's safe to say that most people will have to wait a few weeks before getting component set up.

The Game Boy Player requires you to use a gamecube controller, so making games compatable with the controller to the SNES would be simple enough. And we've seen that the N64 games are adaptable to the controller from games like Ocarina of Time. I didn't know you could play any of the classic games on the cube controller but when you think about it, it makes sense. I already reserved the Classic controller so I guess it doesn't matter too much now...

Picked up my copy of Red Steel. I think it's already too late for people w/o preorders. When I got mine, they said there weren't any left that weren't already reserved. It looks incredibly sweet. The only four stages for multiplayer sucks a little tho... Anyways, there's not a whole lot in the instruction manual we didn't already know. Except...You can flip over a table to take cover by thrusting the nunchuck down. Sweet huh? The Disc is Black with a red Red Steel Logo on top. The back of the case features three pics, Sword Fighting, Guns, and multiplayer. It's rated T for Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, and Violence.

Thank God for preorders!

are the component cables the conversion cables for playing the Wii in HD? also has anyone acutally seen a usb - ethernet adapter? i know they make them but nintendo is making one, i wonder if there are any benefits to it and if there is a price on it yet. paranoid, when u were talking about excite truck do you mean that the sensativity gets better or worse depending on how far you are away? i saw a video of E3 were this guy was really close and the delay of the controler was like a half second but u said yours was very accurate.

Edit

theres going to be a game boy playing feature? like the one N 64 had for the pokemon games? i never herd n e thing about it but it sounds cool. also what is the deal with the SD card? what dose SD stand for and how do they work compaied to the old game cube ones? is it flash? are there n e good articles like wiki or some other thorough site explaining them?

1. Component cables are used to give higher resolution pictures, which means better picture quality. It's already been mentioned in some reviews that playing Zelda with component is FAR better than just the regular composite, but you won't be able to get your hands on any component cables until December unless you were one of the lucky few to order it online...

2. I sincerely doubt there is an advantage to buying a Nintendo-brand USB ethernet cable. A cable is a cable...they are all made the same way. Unless there is something special about the Nintendo-brand USB cable or the Wii can only use that particular brand of cable, just buy a cable from the local electronics store. Or better yet, get wireless. ;)

3. Well, you're supposed to play at least three feet away from the Wii itself. Being too close can cause some lag or create unresponsive gameplay. From what I read, the further away from the TV, the better, just stay in the given range which is around 15 feet from the sensor bar I think...not too worry though, there are talks to make an extender wire for the sensor bar, because 10 feet of wire for the sensor bar is hardly enough...

On a lighter side, some places have accidentally broken the street date amd have sold some Wiis. Whoops. Congrats to those lucky gamers I guess...

Component cables are for paying your Wii in ENHANCED definition; the color will be better, and lines (particularly in text, and other fast-moving images) will not blur.

Well, that's not the only reason I posted: at my Wal*Mart they have the Wii Points card, VC Controller, Nunchuk controller, and Wiimote available for purchase (not behind glass either). The only thing they haven't got in yet is the actual system.

Also, strangely enough, there weren't any campers for the PS3 (well, not "campers", but people waiting around for it to be released). Ahhh, the joys of small-town America!

The PS3 is released tomorrow at 12:01AM right? (so, 1 minute after midnight, tonight)

Anyway, yeah, it was quite surprising. Of course, around here, the weather is kind of icky right now, so, a lot of people probably don't really care. (plus, since it's a small town...).

I'm hoping that the same thing will happen with the Wii...

edits: *smacks forehead* I was under the lame impression that tomorrow was the 17th. Ahh well. Anyway, I'm sure I'll be back at Wal*Mart tomorrow night to see if the Wii has come in early, and I can finagle my way into getting one....I'll give a second report tomorrow.

Anyway, even the the Wiimote at Wal*Mart was in its packaged, I was surprised at how small and light it was; this isn't going to be like your TV remote, that, I can guarantee.

I have a slight dilemma.

When i preordered the Wii at EB games, the person at the register said she wasn't doing them by allocation. I don't know if that means there are more preorders than Wiis, or less. In the case that there are more preorders than Wiis(i was 32 out of 34 preorders), when does eb games normally call to let you know that your preorder is in?

A large majority of stores have gotten their Wii shipements either today or will get them tomorrow. As far as letting you know, they are probably going to only call to remind you of your reserve or if your pre-order is getting cancelled. Just go back around Friday or Saturday and ask them if they have enough for your pre-order. They should be able to tell you by then.

Hmm...If 505 people are in line for their PS3 in San Francisco RIGHT NOW, then chances are the people who want the Wii will line up at maybe a day before... :urg:

Yeah, you're supposed to line up a day before launch, right? Unless it's the PS3, where there's so few consoles being sold that the only way to get one is stand in front of a Wal Mart practically a week before the console actually hits.

I actually saw that on Fox News the other day. Apparently, people were camping out since this Tuesday for the PS3. A woman was camping there and brought her 3 toddler children along. What a crappy mom.

Yeah, so I'm going to start lining up for the Wii on Saturday morning. I got to start planning on what I'll bring. . .food, clothing, weapons for self defense. . .

how many people are actually buying ps3's to have? most ppl i hear say that they're getting them to sell online later for a higher price. i haven't really heard that at all with the Wii's but then again there are 4 times the wii's so supply isn't a huge problem and they only cost 250 each, even if you tripled what you paid for it its nothing compaired to what you'll get for a ps3.

also i'm going tomarrow camping, which is the same day as the ps3 is comming out, has anyone said anything about the line interference? i'm figuring that probably it will be two seperate lines but dose anyone know of someone or has seen something on the news know about the 2 lines for the games?

Some guy in Japan got 100 PS3's to sell for 3X the price. Someone has to be breaking the rules.

Maelstrom, your sig can't be crappy as long as it has blue Mario in it.
