And next year we will say the same thing to everyone that joined in 09. The fact remains that you are going to get more spam and **** from newer members either because they have yet to get it out of their system or they dont know any better yet, and by the end of that year most of them have either lost interest or matured. Hence the most immature group is the newest members.
We don't hate 08ers, we hate the 08ers that frequently post in the IQ killing General Brawl Discussion. And we hate the ones that don't use proper english, grammar, and spam.
You see a join date or post count and automatically assume that a person is sensible and reasonable, or a nooby spammer. And ultimately, just like any other sort of stereotype, it doesn't work. There are '08ers that joined because of Brawl, yes. But not all of them necessarily are on Brawl's side (like me). Not all of the '07ers, '06ers, or below are necessarily on Melee's side.
I have a big thing about stereotyping. Luckily, I've not gotten...actually, come to think of it, any insults for being an '08er. Then again, if what everyone says is true and most of it happens in the Smash Bros parts, that's probably why, as I spend most of my time in the Poke Center.
Every new generation on smashboards gets it. It's like being a freshman in high school. Take it from me, I've been here since 2000. Just don't worry about it.

We get a lot of spam threads/posts from '08ers as new people keep joining just so they can post random stuff. I think people like those are making '08s look bad. I personally think that if you think every 08 is an idiot then you're very ignorant. I have a lot of 08 friends who post responsibly and intelligently. A lot of new people are posting random stuff to raise there post count, thus making theselves look bad in the process (though I have seen some that, once getting a certain amount of posts, have stopped posting spam).
Another problem is the melee vs brawl debate. Most 08's joined for brawl and people before that joined for melee. That causes conflict between people. Though it's not true for all.

Also most 08ers have no idea there exists a forum besides GBD...which is mind numbing in certain ways...for example this is something you would see there: LOLZ WAT WUD YUR MAIN THINK OF YOu?? Also because of the spam and ignorant comments...

this here is what is making most 08' Joiners look bad and n00bish, but as far as discrimination of your join date goes, don't listen to anyone who thinks that join date will automatically make you a n00b, in fact there the n00b's for not realizing it.
It's because we are n00bs who think we know everything. I know. I've made some really dumb posts in the past on the melee/brawl debate. I actually talked as if I had any idea of what competitive melee was like in the past. As long as I don't know that I can't possibly write intelligent posts on the issue.
You know, I can't recall getting much "hate" when I first joined up. Am I too awesome? Do I inspire fear and terror? Or maybe it's because I just don't post much in the Brawl rooms anymore.
And half the people that hate '08s are... '08ers themselves. No, I'm serious. Half of the spam on "dem n00bs" COMES from dem n00bs!

I don't think the 07 got a lot of "hate" from people. I posted a lot and people didn't go "
n00by 07er". I think this year we have gotten a lot more spam from new joiners then last year.
Plus a lot of 08s post random stuff to get there post count high. Some person posted this in SonicXD's thread "hey lets spam up this thread to raise our post count" (not the sticky).
I thought of another thing that could be why so many '08ers get hated. It's because of Brawl. I think quite a few older members don't like people who joined because of Brawl (for obvious reasons, to those of you who dislike Brawl). Honestly, that's not necessarily our (the '08ers') fault. Like me; I don't believe I even discovered SmashBoards' existence until after Brawl came out. I'm not entirely sure how that happened, but it did. Now I joined for Brawl, and had the same mindset as a lot of the noobs have, but I listened to the arguments for Melee and...now I hate Brawl and love Melee to death.
Saying that it's the '08ers that have bad spelling/grammar is inaccurate. I've seen older members who have bad spelling/grammar, and I know of '08ers that have good spelling/grammar. It's not exclusive to the '08ers. You'll find that all over the internet there's people who refuse to use good spelling/grammar because "no one cares".
A lot of spam threads are going to occur from '08ers, because...well, from my experience in the Poke Center, there are idiots who will join just to troll the forums because they have nothing better to do. That's always going to be the newest member. I've not seen very many newcomers creating threads and posting just to get a better post count, but...then again, that may occur more towards the Smash Bros. areas which I don't visit that often. In any case, +1 Post Count stuff is bound to happen more with newcomers all of the time.
Plus, the person whom I'd regard as the best poster on SWF is an '08er.
Truth is, people that have said it's like being a Freshman in High School are right. Because you'll get harrassed just for being new, and then the following year there will be some who say "I know how awful that felt, I'm not going to do it to the newcomers" and others who say "Haha, now I can make fun of the new guys". It's the way things go.

There are members out there who hate brawl players but most of us aren't. We just hate those idiot threads like "Melee sucks" (yes there have been threads like this, look back 1 or 2 pages in the GBD). Your reason may be why the 07s didn't get flamed when they joined but I doubt it. It may be a factor but it's not the whole reason.

Agreed. Not all newcomers have bad grammar and spelling. Though you can't deny that in the GBD we have a rise in bad grammar/spelling. It does happen all over the Internet and you can't do anything about it but the raise in bad grammar is still a problem.

The problem is that this year not only trolls but a lot of people are posting stuff without thinking or even scrolling down to see the same thread already made. There aren't nececerally a lot of + 1 post count threads but a lot of posts. Some like "This threads funny" when there is a spam thread or people forgetting to use the edit button (though in time that problem will likely get fixed).

The year I joined I didn't feel like a freshman in HS at all. I posted and never was made fun of. Maybe it's just the raise in people playing brawl compared to melee.

Well yeah, I wouldn't say that's a huge reason, just another reason. I'm sure there are many reasons that the '08ers get flamed more than any other year before them, that was just one possible one. I mean, there are probably some members angry that there are people joining SmashBoards just for Brawl. Not necessarily a lot, but I'm sere there are some.
As for the Freshman in High School theory, I pretty much had the same experience as you. But every forum I've been on, I've seen the same sort of hazing going on for newcomers. It's never actually happened to me, but I'll lurk the forums before I join and I see it happening.
Okay guys, I've skipped most of the discussion since I posted, but I see there's still some argument going on here. Here is an example of where the bias against newcomers comes from:

Some new people create a thread in the wrong place and eventually get it closed, but they don't know better. We don't get mad at those kind of people because we were at the same stage when we first joined. It's just learning from mistakes and thinking twice before saying something.
What really pisses people off are the people who instigate Melee vs Brawl debates, the people who don't listen to other people's opinions, the people who come up with the really stupid s*** (example: the infamous "wavedashing orgy" quote). Then they will consider everything you say as BS just because you don't agree with them.
I also think its because they've never heard of AiB. They went to the wrong place with the wrong mindset and they got flamed like crazy because of it. Why go to Smashboards and ruin the place when you can go to AiB where you fit in with most of the people.

The 08 hate is seldamly prevalent unless you go to a Brawl thread *coughbrawltierdiscussionwhatwithmostpostersnotinfavorwithtiershaving08accountscough*.
But this pales in comparision to GameFaqs posters' karma discrimination, but I doubt you all would know that considering the vast majority of competent posters here stay away from GameFaqs.
I post on Gamefaqs but not for Brawl, it's a cesspool there. I mainly post about other games I don't feel like joining a particular forum for or are too old to really discuss outside their respective forum on Gamefaqs.
I've only seen one case of discrimination on Gamefaqs and that was for a poll where the person said you had to be over a certain level for your vote to count but most of the other times people only call out people with low karma because they're trolling.
I consider myself lucky when it comes to discrimination against being a new poster on any forum because I've had very few experiences and when it does happen I call out the person for being so shallow that they have to use length of time spent on a message board to invalidate my point.
If the '08 hate is purely based on join date (probably it isn't) then maybe it's just that a huge rush of people would have joined up after Brawl dropped. When you get a whole herd of dumb people flooding in at once, you're bound to descriminate eventually.
I mean, I just got paid out for making a dumb post in a 'post your friend code' thread. And that's fine, shrug it off. But scrolling back through the thread, I found a tonne of people with post counts under 5 who'd clearly just rocked up for the same reason I had; to quickly find people to play against online. Never mind any previous experience with the community, analalysis of indepth stuff or Melee, now Brawl's gone online you're bound to get people who are here just for the online portion. As melee had no online play, everyone here was about local, competetive play so everyone was a lot more serious about it all, and better informed.
This is just a guess though. But on behalf of all the casual onliners who've no doubt filled your forums with our rubbish: I'm sorry. We're sorry. We will try harder.
Just register first, wait 2 or 3 years before posting, then do some posts in one of the non-active sections of the forum(like the Pokecenter over here, where only weird people come) and now you have a "safe join date/postcount" for posting some crap.
OR, if you are really want to be a 'veteran' on a gaming forum, just register on every forum you can find, wait 10 years, and look for the ones who are still alive, then make a 'come-back' post where you'll say things like:
HEY GUYS, IT'S ME! Wow, long time no see. Any other vets still around
(now you just make up some "vet sounding name")
, like BG3
(stands for Beastie Girl Tree)
and Roses 'N Guns
(that would be a cool band name actually)
And this is your easy way to becoming a veteran without the initial noob-phase.

why would someone purposely do that? hmm.. well I guess there's people like that who in a few years wanna claim "vetaranism" (gosh is that even a word) on internet forums just so they'll get some respect I guess
They don't specifically hate you because you joined in 08, they just don't like idiots in general (who tend to be new, as most of them leave fairly quickly) and as such assume all new users are idiots (which most of them are)
I'm guilty of the same thing on other forums. Just don't take it personal. =]
I'm an 08er, and I sort of understand the hate, because looking at a scrub's post in a brawl board, it's usually an 08er. To not care what someone says because of that is stupid though.

I go to GameFAQS, but not the Brawl board, because, like an above poster said, it's full of idiots. I usually just hang around the different Pokemon boards.
With the coming of Brawl in 08, the Smash community suddenly gained appeal to those who have before been put off by the "hardcoreness" of Melee. Some of these people are complete idiots. You will not be discriminated against if you don't make a fool of yourself. I have, for the most part, tried to carry myself in an entirely respectable manner in these boards and I have to say that I have never been flamed by anyone for being an "'08er."
I guess people hate 08 cuz there are many rather unitelligent 08ers. Why?
The Wii is the cheapest 3rd generation system right now, and many young kids receive Wiis for Christmas, Birthday, etc. They like the Wii for it motion sensing abilities, and their parents like it for its price. This results in many little kids with Nintendo Wiis, and little kids aren't the smartest posters, nor are they the most well informed. When Brawl came out, they got a copy, decided it was a cool game, and joined a forum where they made a total *** of themself. People see a bunch of stupid posts made by people who joined in 08, so they concluded that 08ers are complete *******.
