There has been so much talk about two year draft for Americans 18-25 and a two to three months of universal civil services I'm just wondering who is all ready to go fight in Pakistan?
Just give all the angry 16 year old halo addicts a gun.. pakistan will be empty in a week.

I have a few ideas on how I'd dodge the draft including, but not limited to finding a gay guy and declaring my undying love since the military is notoriously homophobic, injuring myself, and running to Canada.

And I'm only 16.

I'm betting against a draft for some time. For one reason, we're currently fighting unconventional militants in urban areas. We've got plenty of troops, but numbers aren't everything, especially in unconventional warfare. Second, with the economy going bad, many kids won't be able to get into college or get a good job, so enlistment will probably go up. And if there was a draft, I'd probably be exempt because I have a permanent lumbar fracture.

There will not be a draft.

That said, there's no way I would go fight.

When it comes to foreign policy and handling terrorism, the US is totally clueless. Maybe our new president (elect) will change that.

Eh, we canucks are doing well in Afghanistan. I THINK we still have the high regard as being one of the most feared soldiers out there. All the US got are sheer numbers and technology, eh?

Remember that one halo kid who got a hold of his parents gun and shot himself in the face? Yea, so no. Unless you turn friendly fire off... jk.

You guys have an actual army? I was always under the impression that it was 2 Mounties and a polar bear.

US special forces are still feared as among the best, though, that's for sure.

I will not fight a war/lose my life for something like this.
I would GLADLY go to jail than risk my life for this country. Yes, I said it.

The only way I'll get drafted is if they bust down my door, shoot me while I'm running for my life to not get drafted, put me in a strap jacket, and force me to be a human shield in the war. There is no way I'm agreeing to get drafted.

I'll grant that my life under a rock is constricting (albeit oddly comfortable), but I've heard no such talk of this potential draft nonsense. Our Congressmen are absolutely not going to enact a draft in the foreseeable future. I remember when this talk came up from the Kerry side back in the '04 elections as a means to scare people from voting for Bush. Lies, scare tactics, shenanigans. Hypothetically speaking, however...

If there were a draft, I'd get married to Crimson King and injure myself and move to Canada and fulfill my lifelong dream of raising a family of magical ponies in the Alberta countryside.

There will not be a draft anytime soon. I am a prior service member and here is why there won't be a draft:

1) You will get crappy service from people who don't want to be in the military.

2)The Army is meeting it's goals. Actually they are beyond their goals. You can look up the amount of recruits they get each month.

3) The same person introduces a draft proposal every year in a different way. He gets beaten every year with a vote of 223 to 2.

4) Only 4 in 10 Americans can actually do the job (1 in those 4 can be a Marine). This is because of all the diseases some of you have (asthma for example).

Give me 4 good reasons why you are all so paranoid about a draft.

Didn't stop them for Vietnam.

They won't meet their goals if they expand areas or we get into a real war.

3) The same person introduces a draft proposal every year in a different way. He gets beaten every year with a vote of 223 to 2.
That can be voided if a massive war starts (see Israel/Pakinstan)

4) Only 4 in 10 Americans can actually do the job (1 in those 4 can be a Marine). This is because of all the diseases some of you have (asthma for example).
Again, it didn't stop them with Vietnam.

There won't be a draft for all the reasons KingJiggyWiggy listed. Believe it or not, the Pentagon likes the idea of a smaller, professional army as opposed to a bloated mass of conscripts (like Russia).

If I'm not mistaken, Vietnam is actually one of the reasons why the military got rid of the draft.

EDIT: dammit, matt beat me to it.

I'm gay and have enough history with a psychologist to prevent any government from even taking a second look at me. So I'm safe.

Crimson King is either a student or he is down-right paranoid. I don't see any other reasons being the least bit decent.

Here is a perfect example of what humanity has to offer, exactly what the military doesn't want. But they won't buy that "gay" attitude of yours, it's not that easy to get discharged.

I distrust any government that feels it has the right to tell me what I can or can't do. They've done the draft before when we were in a lot smaller, easily winnable conflict, and I see no reason why they wouldn't consider doing it again.

That said - it won't pass. Ever.

Funny I could say the same for you.

All your points are weak and avoid reality, a draft is a very real thing especially now when our new President wants to expand the war to Pakistan and Afghanistan (two of the worst places to send troops. Not nearly as bad as N.Korea though.) Combine this with the fact that we have a pro-draft president and you get the picture.

The Military doesn't care about your work ethic, if you're healthy they'll take you.

I would say that the US has the right to issue a draft, but that the circumstances would greatly depend. If we are being attacked by a massive army (we being America) I would support a draft, but drafting to simply accomplish the goals of the politicians, definitely doesnt have my support.

It's right if we really need it. (Say all nations are attacking the U.S) But for a simple war like the war on terror. That's not right...

I'll be ready! I'll be in college and if worst comes to worst I'll just move to.... Canada, U.K, Italy, Australia.

I'll say the US don't have the right to draft us, what happen to freedom of speech, I think FoS died down little by little as the years gone by. I'll ask this, how comfortable are you to say, "(insert presdent name) sucks" in a crowd full of people without getting in trouble by the community?

Lastly, I can understand better if getting drafted to a war that's worth fighting for, so far I haven't seen that as the days go by. And I don't approve the bribes that the US army has to make you go on a mission, example like they will help you get the money for school etc.
