Aniki actually plays Samus now, meaning the WD would be really important for him if he used it.

Figured I'd throw that out there...

I mentioned that, I personally think in *some* situations it would help his game, but his reaction time and general speed and combo ability are SO good he manages without it.

Aniki is a freak, you are not. If you think you can win or even not place last in a tournament without wavedashing, you're wrong (Speaking to the scrubs reading this thread of course)

Aniki is good but he's handicapping himself...

Lack of WDs in his game are understandable because he's in the air the whole ****in time, however that habit of not using WD hurts him alot, especially on defense. You will often see him try to roll or jump out of shield and get punished for that while he would have been safe if he would've used a WD.

Imagine if he not only wavedashed, but also SUPER wavedashed like Phanna, he'd be like 2x as good, would probably replace his brother Masashi as the #1...

SWD is a difficult thing to master though, Phanna is too sick.

Phanna is DEFINITELY too sick...

And I don't think he's handicapping himself. I think he's doing something differently, thus giving him a possible edge in a game where it's usually expected for a WD to occur.

Japanese Smashers are a bunch of scrubs.

OMG chaingrabbing is dishonorable stop it!!!
Even in classic smash they were scrubs. I saw this pro jiggles on youtube from japan go up against isai in SSB 64 and he like... didnt use rest once. It would like cause him to commit sepuku or something I guess :/

Honor is for idiots... :psycho:

Right now I'd have to say phanna is the best Samus so far. He excutes everything so well and SWDs consistently AND he know how to use it unlike most people. I haven't seen enough vids of Aniki to say anything, I've seen like 1 vid.

Wes has won more tournaments. Wes is beter. Theres no arguing this.

Phanna is not even close to being the best Samus. He just plays a very technical, flashy Samus. The best Samus is probably Hugs, then Wes, both of whom have a much slower (and sadly, boring) playstyle.

Phanna's Samus is flashy, not good. I mean, sure, it's fine, but it's not going to win many tournaments. Actually, it reminds me of Zelgadis's Fox.

And I don't think you can categorize Japanese Smashers by the way Aniki plays. He's good, undoubtedly, but he's not in any way a representation of the entire Japanese Smash scene.

And I've seen Japanese players chain-grab before. At the same time, they do occasionally play with honor, which is completely understandable, IMO. If it's not a tourny, winning isn't everything. Guess I'm more into that then you guys are, haha.

Aww, well, I'll still be a phanna phan [dibs on new term]. Recently I heard he stopped playing so flashy, maybe he's trying to be a better samus as opposed to be a flashy Samus. Even on his vids people say he's sandbagging, but in response he said he's easing off of the flashy stuff because when it doesn't work he loses.

I still wanna see some vids of Wes' or HugS' Samus. I didn't see any in the video compliation thread in video discussion.

Basically it means holding back. It could mean holding back enough to still win, or holding back so much that you lose on purpose.

o.O just search for them on youtube. You don't really have to see recent videos to understand how good they are.

I'm with Dylan on this one. My vote goes to Wes.

Neither one of them has a really interesting fighting style...watching Samus is kinda like watching a Falco ditto....bleh.

Meh @ falco dittos. Spot-dodge to shine works in almost every situation on defence. Boring.

wow, someone actually called phanna the best samus. lmfao at that. Phanna is just technical, thats like saying the record holders of home run contest must win tournaments and be good.

Meh Red Exodus is kind of ''newish'' to the pro smash scene but he wont argue with you like a youtube nub. Phanna is really entertaining but its true that Wes and Hugs are better plainly because they win more...

That bothers the hell outta me too. YouTubers have no idea what they're talking about, and refuse to man up and acknowledge it. THAT, in my opinion, is being a scrub.

Funniest youtube comments I've seen :

"Ken had to resort to chaingrabbin' to beat bombsoldier, thats sad''

'' Shield grabbing is so ridiculous!''

*In response to a REAL pro fox match* ''OMG GUYS WHAT ABOUT ZELGADIS?!''

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QuOQtN8ySg&mode=related&search= (proof that zelgadis doesnt even stand up to real pros)

''Germ is the master of link. He is an inspiration towards link players like me, him and aniki'' Ive seen this EXACT comment well over two hundred times.

''I will. Im not trying to prove i can beat isai, cus beating him is nothin for me. is more like a new found challenge. Im tired of winning to everyone else I play. I should be isai's last match, cus if able to beat me he truely is the best in ssb64.

also: I have 8 years ssb64 experience. I also one a tourney at my home town at gametraders. if I known I could be eanring money around the world in ssb64 I would have signed up. too bad! I know im the best, and you say Isai is the best, well there could only be one best and we will find out.''

And the most amazing quote, I yell this loudly with my smashfriends a lot....

''I.........MAIN..............ROY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!''' L M F A O @ That one.

Hasn't Wes won more tournaments in total though? Or am I mistaken on that one, I just got that information from word of mouth so im not entirely sure.

Hugs is amazing though, ive watched most of his samus videos, his double missiling is really cool he does it quite often and always in the right situation...

HugS is amazing, I played him in my first tourney matchup ever. >_> He totally owned me, needless to say. For HugS, it's all about the pressure mindgames that take you off balance. His vids really don't show his real skill, you have to play him to see why he's so good.

In the final analysis...

WES<HUGS

EDIT: But does it really matter?

DSF...bleh. Still a part of DBR.

I'm not really that big a fan of DBR at all, actually, with the exception of King and sometimes Germ.

King 'cause he's actually good, The Germ 'cause it's refreshing to see a Link, regardless of skill. I've already watched the hell outta Aniki...

DBR kind of sucks.... O.o I mean they'd pwn me but they're way overhyped. Germ got his *** 4 stocked by Isais fox and isais fox isnt even close to the best fox out there *cough lunin*

King and DSF are the two members that are halfway decent, I saw DSF beat ken once but I doubt he could do it again from the looks of it ken was sandbagging hard, it was a friendly match.

I like Bob$ too.

Germ seems like a great guy, but both him and zelgadis aren't 20% as good as noobs think they are, and thing is I know for a fact that they dont think of themselves to be king **** either, they just made a REALLY flashy combo video, so all the smashboards and youtube nubs jumped all over it

OMG GUYZ WUT ABOUT ZELGADIS. stfu already I dont even think Trebor wants people talking about him like that since he knows hes FAR FAR FAR from the best.

isai's fox is good no doubt but he loses to people he shouldn't when he uses fox and doesn't feel like trying and playing sheik or falcon. he lost to husband at cat3 with his fox v_V

and DBR records those combo vids with their crew, i could easily either play a million games with my buddies and handpick the random absolute-**** ****, or just as easily tell them what i want to do and have them let me do it. add in some horrid DI and you have a DBR combo vid.

But as for hugs and wes, you can't fairly say wes is better, because Hugs actually trys to do good in large MLG tournaments and is nationally ranked. Wes doesn't go to as much, but he did say recently he was gonna get back into it and start ****** people, and I think he could be the best samus if he put 100% into it.

Dude banks!!! You have 1337 posts. Im gonna take a screenshot for ya

That was a 1337 post anyway.

You seem to know more about pro SSBM than I do so I look forward to discussing it with ya in the future.

I know what you're saying about DBR. That's my opinion of them aswell, their combo videos could be done by anyone, but they're so over the top flashy with gay music on top of it all that youtube nubs go crazy on them. I dunno if that was secretly their aim but from their posts I consider them to be respectable smashers, especially king who wrote the friggin' ESSAY on getting better at smash.

Peace.

I really like DSF's style. His marth is realllly nice, but I really enjoy his shiek, as a shiek main.

I MUCH prefer KeepspeedN and Drephen though. Those are my shiek idols, especially Drephen, simple but SOO good.

O.O I'm lost lol. The tournament scene is deeper than I thought. I guess the only way for me to learn is to take it one day at a time.

It's incredibly complex. Just watch EVERY youtube pro smash video you can if you want to get up to speed, or better yet download DC++ and start dling / sharing videos with the smash community. some people have like 30 gigs of them.
