Everyone who knows anything about Ganondorf knows that those who main him and dedicate themselves to him typically turn out to be exceptional players. No doubt due to the intense conditioning you have to endure to learn Ganon and to consequently win as him. You have to sharpen and make full use of every facet, opportunity and opening you can.

With this being said, Ganon mains developing arguably more advanced skills in many areas than a character whose demands are far lower, what keeps us Ganons from defecting to a character we'd no doubt dominate with? Truth be told, if 50% of this board alone transferred to a B-S tier character, we'd win tournaments and rake in winnings.

So, with this prospect in mind, what keeps us Ganon mains Ganon mains? I want to make a list of (serious) reasons to main Ganondorf above all other characters. Sillier reasons can come after.

My own personal reason is because Brawl is a very strange game. To excel in it, you have to resort to some pretty lurid tactics, and truth be told, the higher up the tier list you go, the more boring the game will become. So, Ganondorf offers a legitimate challenge in the face of other challenges that are less legitimate, and more aggravating. There is also just something about his character that is so menacing and awe-inspiring that if you're good enough, even the best of opponents will fear you. That's a strong, strong point of interest for Ganon. He's like a wolf; he can smell your fear and use it to his advantage.

My take on it, is that Ganon offers a truly unique challenge that only Smash could give. For a rock-bottom tier character to be able to compete (at least a little bit). Ganondorf is what makes Brawl fun to me. The only thing, in fact, that makes it fun for me. The satisfaction, glory, praise and hot sex after winning a set is cool, too.

So, list all your reasons for sticking through thick and thin with the 'Dorf. We get flamed for using a "trash" character, judged by our character choice and so on. But we all know we Ganon pures are a proud few, and if not bound by love of 8-foot-tall brown men with inarguably the largest phallus I've personally ever seen, we'd seize the Earth. Wait, we already do.

I mained him because I sucked with everyone else.
Now I'm good with Falco, so I don't consider him my main anymore, although I do still use him in friendlies most of the time.
To be completely honest, if I hadn't mained Ganon for so long, I would probably be terrible.

I keep using him because he's my best character. Plain and simple. If I felt more confident winning with another character, I'd use them instead. I've been practicing a few other characters (MK and Flaco mainly), and if I ever feel that they've surpassed my Ganondorf, then I'll switch to them for tournaments. I'm not at that point yet (not sure if I'll ever be), so therefore, I use Ganon :p

I also feel that I'm not focused enough to get 1st in the tournaments in my state, regardless of which character I use. I used to be on medications for ADD, but I went off because they made me feel like a zombie. My attention problems never really went away. I may go back on Ritalin or something (for school, not for smash) in the near future. As it is now though... I enjoy the fame that being a high-placing Ganon main brings me, and if I switch to MK, I still probably won't win any tournaments and I'll become "just another MK," which I would hate.

I main him because I feel that his general gameplay fits with my own style of playing. He's about the only character I have enjoyed playing for a longer time, since I usually get bored quick when I'm using high-tier characters. Even though Mr. Dragmire might be slow, he still have some options to make him not that predictable. He can rack up the damage fast, as soon as he just get a few combos in. Although he takes a lot practice, he is definitely worth it in the end.
Not to mention: He plays the organ.

I don't main him anymore. :(

I'll be seeing if this theory is correct or not real soon.

Considering I have yet to really play anyone outside my group of non-regular Brawl-playing friends, I'm much more of a casual player. With that in mind, ease of use and fun come first. Ganon is easy to use for me in Brawl. I used to main Link in Melee, but Link in Brawl just doesn't feel satisfactory. I saw a friend of mine using Ganon and I was thought that it'd be ironic to learn him. I picked Ganon up, and his playstyle fit perfectly into my mindset.

If there's something I hate, it's having foes at kill percents and not being able to kill. Pretty much any of Ganon's moves will kill (heck, even just pressing A will work. Who else does that work for? Yeah, that's right. No one. Suck it MK!).

Maybe if I grow out of my casual game, I would realize I need another character. But I doubt it. Ganon's too fun.

While i cannot play or main ganon to save my life i will always love my dark overlord. Hes got some really fun tools to play with; chain/tech choking people never gets old. Nor does listening to ganons wonderful voice when he gives his enemies "the boot"

HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

This is how i feel about playing DDD. You feel safe, confident in your abilities, and you know someone is going to get utterly *****. If i ever am taught how to play Ganon properly i'd def use him in tournie matches as long as i knew the MU. Ganon is just that much fun to fight[+ scary!] and to play as.

Not to mention: He plays the organ.
you'll fit in very well here lololo

The G has two sides, the good one and the bad one.

Good side of maining Ganon is that you never grow tired of him. Every techchase, chain choke, spike or kill feels 'new' and satisfying. It's never boring and it's never the same game over and over again... While competitive playing tends to be boring and only '4 da monei', G's competitive feels somewhat casual and fun, so you don't want to quit so easily! It's motivating!

The bad side are the flames. I, personally, hear the 'change you character or never win!' at least twice a day. It really pisses me off, since I can't win against those who say that crap. While it is really frustrating, it gives you MORE motivation to keep going and evolving so one day you can MURDER that words of blasphemy.

Aye, true words, Bahamut. But the people that flame Ganons typically see the more shallow end of competition. The chump change winnings and winning alone. Ganon mains simply, as you said, seek out the challenge to win and continually improve. Ganon never stales because, unlike most other characters, he can't stick to one playstyle and win. He has to adapt for every character.

i hate to break this to you, but they're probably bad at playing their marth/mk/snake/pikachu/olimar/falco/wario

thats ok though because everyone gets a free ticket to hell when ganon stomps them in the face

*shrugs* spikes happen~~~ but baddies will always be baddies

but not ganon hes not a baddie, just power hungry thats all

I was never a Ganon main.

I always knew he was garbage, funny thing was I picked him up to prove he wasn't the worst character in the game (lol Inui).

There truly isn't hope for this character, but I can't deny that he's a very fun character to use.

All I use him for is these days is just as a statement of confidence. When I don't think my opponent stands a chance, it's much more satisfying to destroy them with this character.

As a matter of a fact, I train one of my friends to become a better player (he mains Pit) through the use of my Ganondorf.

Ganondorf is my favorite character in gaming. I used him in Melee, I use him in Brawl, and in SSB4, even if he's as useless as he is in Brawl, I'll still use him.

Ganon has the best characteristic in the game, having the most limited options out of the cast. You have to use his attacks in such a precise manner if you ever want to play him well. Discovering what works and how to specifically use him even though it's bad gives Ganon his appeal as a character. Whenever I play Falco and Diddy, I always play the same. Same chaingrab, same glide-toss to grab, same tactics basically. Not with Ganon, you can't rely on one or two of his good moves and use them a lot expecting to win as him.

I think this is just me but playing Ganon made me a far better player in less time than playing Falco. Maining him helped me develop a very keen, reading, predicting, and Follow-up playstyle.

Using such a limited movepool made me realize when and where and even how to use moves.

Where's the fun in picking MK just to win and becoming "another MK?" Ganon is a really fun character that makes you think, and I like that.

In Melee it was his raw power, and the fact that he wasn't completely slow.

In Brawl, I don't main him anymore, but I still hold the many things I've learned from playing with Ganon; Predicting, Tech Chases, Mindgames, Change-ups, and more...

Ganon has a positive affect on anyone that dedicates themself to maining him. Sure, he's mocked, laughed at, and otherwise, but those that do the mocking are amazed when you spike them at 0%(coughM2Kcough) or Fsmash them at 50-something% for a kill on FD(coughM2Kcough).

Ganon also brings you popularity. I can't count the number of times I got this line:

Person1: Who's that guy?
Person2: Oh him? That's the Ganon main.
Person1: Oh! I've heard of him. Person3 told me about him.
Person4: Me too. I heard he's good.
/end chat, though it could go on...

So yeah.

This 1000x.

It all comes down to that. Ganondorf is the most fun character, and the whole reason I play this game is to have fun. Of course winning is nice to, but I'd rather lose a few matches with Ganondorf than camp for 8 minutes or spam nado and win. The tactics that win often aren't fun. People tend to forget that this is a game and you are meant to have fun.

I mean DK is my best character and I'll use him in tourneys against some of the better players, but aside from that I always just play as either random, Ganon, or falcon because thats the most fun.

My skills at Brawl are pathetic, and ironically Ganondorf is my best character. I tried picking up Sheik, Zelda, Link, Captain Falcon. None of them worked for me. I'm so used to his playstyle I find it hard to even try and main someone else.

Question is:
Is Ganon fun to play because he's bottomtier, or because of his Fightingstyle?

I can't really make up my mind.

I play Ganon because I like him as a character, not because he sucks. I'd even main him if he was tourney viable. But I like him because I like heavyweights with raw power. Tech-chasing to fsmash is also too fun. I also like how much people underestimate Ganon when I go him, and play aggressive when they should camp. But Falco and Marths are no fun to play against with Ganon at all.

Both. His playstyle is fun and the fact that you get extra enjoyment after beating a Snake or MK with him makes him even more fun to use. Also his moves are just so satisfying to connect with. Dair spikes just feel so good :D

Don't forget, killing MKs that belong to great players like M2K at nearly 40% on hit, are just too good.

I truly like the fact that players, really are scared of Ganondorf mains that do/are good.

Yeah a lot of people are starting to become more scared of ganondorf. My brother and my friends are actually pretty scared of my ganon because i get them to like 0-60 hp in just seconds or 0-20 in 1 attack so they try to run away a lot lol.

yeah, getting like 60% off a nicely predicted chain is great, then they are afraid of a kill move popping up.

Truth be told I was never trying to main Ganon. My main was pikachu but when I didn't have my GC controller I had to adapt to the akwardness of the wii remote. When I got a new controller I got so used to him that he became one of my mains. Now I keep him not only because I'm good with him but I found a certain sense of murdering stuff in ganon that no other character shows.

I occasionally, like once every few months, find myself wanting to main a better character but always find myself going back to the Beard. It just feels better to play him and win with him except for those few match-ups where he can't do crap.

Pirate Ship.

Gerudo to bow of ship.

Some of my friends have even gone so far as to hack Pirate Ship out of their Brawl.

Doesn't help that I've been messing around with different victory themes for Ganon.

Also, seriously, who doesn't feel awesome when they FoG to Wizkick spike on that pesky Pit? Or win the match by stage-spiking with Up-B? Or screw with someone's head by "lol, Ice Climbers"? At school, I can mess with people's heads by picking Ganon against their IC and then counterpicking Final Destination. Thus, even when I lose, I win.

While away, I took a lot of time to really inspect myself and this game.

I got to know what really matters to me.

I chopped off some characters I was picking up on the side, because I figured out which ones really matter to me, and which ones were just indulgences.

I learned I really care about the LoZ column. I'm stepping up Link and Zelda as my second and third main, as reflected in my siggy. Now, not for some misunderstood aspiration to be the best Zelda locally by default, but to be good with Zelda in itself - and repping her locally is the bonus.

So in part, why do I keep going as Ganondorf? It has to be 'cause I'm an LoZ fanboy.
A Link to the Past was my first "RPG", afterall. (my second game after Super Mario Kart, not a game you could call 'serial'...)

I use Ganon because he makes sense to me, but that doesn't explain maining him.

So why do I pull the cape and scowl with money on the line, every time?

It's for the murder, obviously.
I don't want to have to hit my opponent too many times, and I don't want to just make "high-low" mixups (shield/dodge mixups...) that don't causally involve any character-specific feature at all. I want to wait out my opponent, for four hundred twenty seconds if I have to, and edge out the frame advantage I like, to give him the Boot of death.

I can wait, but I want to be decisive too. This combination of senses of timing, it distances me easily and obviously from a lot of character sorts, but has lead me astray a bit, until I thought hard about it.
I want to crush or be crushed. I don't "put up a good fight", I survive or die.

And also in my case, contrary to the general protip, I can't play well without an ego. I need my ego. When it leaves I can't decimate the noobs or rep what I know against the pros. And that ego, for this game, I feel only with Ganondorf. Ganondorf is my soul.

Ganondorf is ****ing awesome, he trades in speed and combos for raw power.. he beats his enemies around as if they were nothing more than just another worthless minion in his path.
thunderstomp spiking or connecting with a warlock punch far surpasses using a top tier character and being a cheap **** just to win matches.

I used to main Ganon. Booting a 50%-ish character off the edge of FD into oblivion while listening to the immensely satisfying "HAA!" is just, well, awesome.

The one thing I truly dread (and miss) as a Link main: misspacing a FF D-air into a warlock punch. At ANY percent, that's just ****.

I've been in and out of Ganondorf quite a few times......but I always come back to him. He just is the most comfortable person to play with for me.

The purple is also a plus
