What do you miss the most about never playing with items anymore?

When I play meele with younger cousins or family friends I often forget to turn items on (and like hyrule) and it made me think about how much of the game I don't play anymore.

Well actually both of my friends who played smash since the game came out would never play with items becaseu they didnt like the randomness. It was the exploding capsules that set him over the edge.

I miss throwing electrodes even though i would almost always kill myself

If you've ever done it, playing with items on every once in a while with other competitive Smashers is mad fun. People should do it more often.

I sometimes turn items on when my little sister or really casual friends are playing.

And they remind me that they should be turned off. They were introduced to the game playing without items (by me), and turning them on is a step down gameplay-wise in their eyes.

Man u guys are hijacking my thread. Of course items "suck" and make the game "worse". It supposed to be a "back in the good ol days" kinda thread I know some people got into smash as a competive game purely but I would say the majority are old school nintendo fanboys and the abillity to control a flock of beedrill is the greatest feeling ever. And who could forget hitmonlee that for some reason says "primape". I mean this is 64 but u know what I mean. Obviously, its hard to get the same feeling now. I wouldnt even say its a blood oath to never use items. Its kinda of like how taking a stats class ruins the fun of roulette.

this. The crew i am part of have done items on FFA just for poops and chuckles, and it was actually pretty fun.

so long as they're not serious matches do whatever you find fun, there's options built into the game for a reason lol

You just reminded me of something. I don't know if you ever played DOTA(the original HOEN and LOL) but they had this game mode called wtf mode where all spells had no cooldown or mana cost. And at the start it would say "This mode is for FUN only". As opposed to the other modes.

Honestly, some of the most fun I've had in tournaments is playing two stock, two minute, all stages, free-for-all first-to-five's with people.

Granted, it's a different kind of fun.

As we all know, by joining Smashboards, you have to take a blood oath to never turn on items again.
I'm a Peach main...so what does this mean for me?

The Ganon challenge is the most legit thing about this game. Sometimes.

I used to play so much with items. My family had the specific "fair" items on. Items like the starman and super/mini mushroom were off. Items like star rod, sword, parasol were on. When my brother got a parasol my blood would freeze. He was amazing at using that one item somehow haha... I miss using items sometimes.

We (at my house) had several "fair" items turned on, eg. parasol, beam sword etc. Made it hella fun.
The first time I played vs someone without items, I was like waiting for an item to drop... and got owned in the process. Was such a noob haha. Good times.

the only reason I ever turn on items now is if 2 kids who see my and my friend playing competitively want to play.

we just set them down and turn on items and watch the n00bliness begin

"STOP RUNNING AWAY"
"THIS STAGE SUCKS (final destination)"
"DUDE NO FAIR, THE HAMMER BROKE"
"AW YEAH I GOT THE LASER GUN!"

it reminds me when I was 8 years old and played with items. good times.

I still play with them sometimes, motion sensor bombs are my favorite because they're powerful but really strategic.

Melee w/ items is soooo fun. I thought that Brawl w/ items would be fun, but it's actually even less fun.

"WHERE DID THAT MOTION SENSOR LAND?!?!"

*both of us spend the next 2 minutes jumping up and down in place trying to hit eachother into it*

oh lawdy

Don't forget that anybody vs jiggs matchup with items.
>Jiggs on the floor in front of you for a moment, opportunity
>Try to jab
>Slowly pick up crate that inconveniently falls right on top of you
>rest :fuuu:
