Your Zard is so fun to watch! I hope one day I can trust my glide skills enough to do the tricks you pulled XD

So, just so you guys know.
I'm back on track.
I've started streaming Smash daily, and I've already streamed PM twice (once today, forgot to post to you guys though)

Here is my Twitch Video from yesterday, when i watched the PM 3.5 trailer and played a bit of Charizard and explained a couple of tricks and things i want to do. No matches or anything.
http://www.twitch.tv/yomedrath/c/5489283

This is just a random segment without any plan behind it, i usualy try to have more of a program in there. I'd love to see a couple of charizard Players in the Streamchat once in a while!

I'll be streaming PM 3.5 alot in the near future. Charizard ofcourse.

Critique my Zard? I played him a little for fun last patch but only picked him up seriously when the new patch came out.

Only thing I can think of is I keep attacking his shield when I come down and then getting grabbed for it. Dair is supposedly safe on shield but I can't seem to make myself time it low enough for that to work. But what else can y'all see?

I have some other sets also, though I won them so maybe you won't see as much.

I'll agree with everyone else that your movement and general playstyle is nice and crispy, I like it. It also looked like you learned just how much respect to give to Zelda's antiair moves over the course of the set. I lol'd when the Zelda player CP'd you to FoD... I guess he/she was going for the blastzones, but that platform layout is so beneficial for Zard, and messes up Zelda's fire game. I would have expected something like FD, Smashville, Skyworld, or even GHZ before that.

Western PA. Close enough.
Do you know Boss?
Cause he occasionally comes down to Dayton/Columbus tournaments to play against us, and I live around the Dayton/Cincinnati area. Hopefully one day we can meet up!

Also, I'll get some critiques to you a bit later, thanksgiving and stuff

'fraid not. I was hoping to get the PGH scene down to Xanadu sometime next spring, so I guess if I'm ever down there I might meet him.

@ LavaLatte LavaLatte
Thank you haha and dw you will
@ Yomi-no-Kuni Yomi-no-Kuni
Thank you also and I've seen your zard too it's pretty awesome
@ DoctorFS DoctorFS
Lol yea you noticed, that's because that was the first zelda I ever vsed and also Don't Get Rekt was my very second tournament

Believe it or not but I have almost no one to train with (except for one of my friends who is not really competitive but i guess he counts) I spend a lot of time in the lab and just thinking how I will deal with other characters by learning them as well so I wouldn't be too surprised at other peoples play styles (in other words I got a lot of free time lol).

So these are Videos from the last regional Monthly I went to.

Disclaimer: There are videos from 2 weeks ago where I play alot worse, I would add these aswell, but they're only archived on the twitch broadcast and noone (including me) has gotten around to timestamp those! If anyone is interested (I believe its 2 videos of me loosing) i can look for them!

Please give tipps for safe combos and effective ways of killing! I've kinda forgotten how to do those... I'm really bad at landing UpB sweetspots for some reason.

Hey, I was in a recent tournament here in n the Bahamas. I only got two matches recorded but it was WF and LF.

CCT11 - PM Singles: Abcool (Falcon) vs TK (Charizard) WF
www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BIErxHS0Uo

CCT11 - PM Singles: Wing (Fox) vs TK (Charizard) LF
www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMupZ-dot6M

I kind of got utterly destroyed by the Falcon. I had no real idea of how to fight him and was just a huge target for his knees.

I felt a little better about the LF match against Fox but dropped the ball at game 4. I know I overused flamethrower way too much and looking back I don't know what possessed me to do so. So obviously I missed out on some potential kills.

That being said, any input on my matches would be appreciated along with tips to fighting Falcon. Oh and I lost to another Fox in the previous tournament. Camping Foxes are a hard match up for me.

Thanks in advance. :D

So for the falcon match, you're making a couple mistakes.

The first one is a really classic mistake. You're staying in shield a lot, and a good falcon player will abuse the crap out of you for doing that. You have to find a way to keep moving, you outrange falcon easily! Make him respect your space! And if he does get too close for comfort, up B OOS! It's an amazing get off me move and is especially good against falcon cause he usually won't crouch cancel tech it. One of the best ways to make him respect you is to to stuff all of his approaches. If he comes at you with a Nair, you can jab him right out of it and then get a huge punish. HOWEVER, don't stand there and try to react to an approach, dash around and make him guess if you're going in, or if he has to go in. Rule of thumb is this, if you're facing him, then jab him out of any of his approaches, if you're facing or dashing away, Nair him out.

The other thing you didn't do was get very solid punishes. Falcon is combo food for Zard as much as Zard is for him. Unfortunately I can't just say do "x" combo in this situation...but I can tell you to tech chase the crap out of him. Best method I found is to Bthrow and then either regrab his tech, or Dsmash right on his tech (fun fact, cause you can hit falcon out of his tech roll, if you Dsmash on top of him right as he techs, you'll always hit him, just takes some getting used to but then it works into a reset into itself). The other thing you want to do if you're near the ledge is just get him offstage, Bthrow or Fthrow will work fine. If he DI's in for the Bthrow, just Ftilt him or something to send him off (btw, Bthrow dash attack is perfect when he's near the ledge, cause if you dash attack into the ledge and hold towards the stage, you'll fall to the ledge after the dash attack ends), Fthrow should send him off fine if you're faced the right way. All of this is because falcon is super easy to gimp, which goes into my next point.

You were not controlling the ledge when you sent him offstage, most times he got back onstage and then proceeded to 0->death you. Zard can easily dominate the ledge against falcon, but you need to do other things besides just trying to Dtilt. Grab the ledge! Force him onstage! Or better yet, grab the ledge and then do a ledge hop Nair to COVER EVERY OPTION. Rule of thumb should be this, if he's going low, try and reverse Nair him back offstage, you should then just be able to ledge hog him to death. If he's going high, get on the ledge and as he gets close to the stage, ledge hop and Nair, you'll either hit him up for a Ftilt/Fair, or knock him back offstage where you can ledge hog/Nair him or something. Now if he goes onstage, this is where you have some fun. During his landing lag you can ledge hop and Dair him, which is a free set up in to a Uair Uair ->up B/glide attack that will probably kill him, or just hit him back off with a heatwave or something. Note that Dtilt works as well, but here's an idea if you want to use it better. Grossly overspace the Dtilt, like, aim to him like 3 character lengths offstage with the flame. This is because, even if you whiff and hit him with the tail portion, it will still pop him up for a Fair or whatever and will convert to a stock, and if you hit him with the flame good job anyways cause he'll die from that easily.

This isn't the best demonstration of how the MU can go, but there's some nice things in here, hopefully you can glean something out of it.

As for the fox MU

THROW HIM OFFSTAGE Dthrow is nice, but spacies are so easy to gimp, take every chance you get to Fthrow him off or something. Much of the edge guarding stuff is the same, except you want to sometimes just jump out at him and Nair to catch a side b. And if you guessed wrong, you can usually get back to the ledge before them.

Also you're still standing there a lot, you need to keep moving, the neutral is very similar to the Falcon MU in that you are looking to stuff one of his approaches, then destroy him for getting knocked down.

And keep up B OOS in mind, it is AMAZING for getting fox off you, specially in shine pressure.

A lot of the stuff I said for the falcon MU applies to the fox MU, just not the hitting him out of his tech roll animation, that's a falcon specific thing.

Unfortunately I don't have a good demonstration of fox gimping, if you have any more questions just repost in this thread (or join the Zard Skype chat #shamelessplug :D)

Hey guys I should be posting here soon with videos (no swag though :( ), so I'll finally have more than two videos to show lol
Edit: Okay, idk when they'll get posted. When I checked it out on twitch's past broadcast, it was kinda meh quality in terms of frame rate, so it might not be that great to watch for when it's up...

That commentator in the orange shirt was terrible. He was on my videos (even commentated with him once) and I wanted to just dip after hearing what he was saying that day...

hey all, here's one of the most recent vids of me playing...feedback welcome!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2umMrO0H2Ic&index=5&list=PLmW-ZIxEPEmKRefPhB1Kz_1XdJrxQtDME

there's also some great footage of Ripple and I wrecking it with our double zard team at aftershock but I can't find youtube clips of the twitch vods atm.
I want to be mad at you for those failed attempts at hype offstage Dairs, but your overall play was quite solid :D

Biggest thing that stuck out to me is your need to always fall down with an aerial, a smarter player will just dash up, shield, and punish you accordingly. It wasn't the worst specifically in the Ganny MU, but be sure to vary how you fall with heatwaves, glides etc. The other thing that popped out was you Dthrow tech chasing, it needs some work but tbh, that's more a play style thing but it can't hurt to have the option available. I would also suggest using more reverse Nairs when edge guarding, specially against ganny. the timing is much less strict, and if you force him to wall jump tech, he'll usually try and side b back which another Nair covers and prevents the stage tech.

Things done well. Your heatwaves were spot on and well placed. Overall Nair spacing was quite good as well. Movement was solid, and combos were effective.

However one thing I would say about the Ganny MU. If you stand with you back to him, and shield, it's pretty much a 90-10 MU. you can react to almost everything he does with a Nair OOS, and he's not fast enough to get in. you can also stuff any of his side b's or wizard's foots. In addition, if he Fairs your shield, you get a free Nair OOS, which you can combo into itself based on percentage. This isn't to say that you should stand still and play the MU like this, but you win when you're not looking at him, cause Nair outpaces everything he does.

Overall, very solid job, keep up the good work :D

ty ty...this dorf (MerzA) and I actually play each other all the time and we're friends, so I wanted to have a good time by going for the stupid dair dunks on lylat...I think I'm close to making it work, but RAR into a deep ending sweetspot nair would probably be easier and safer now that I think about it. You also saw me almost get away with a reverse fly attack stage spike but then I accidentally didn't wavebounce fly and SD'd instead.

two big things I'm definitely trying to work on are dthrow>wavedash back into dashdance for better tech chasing, and also dthrow>shffl dair on a roll read because that's basically a free combo. I'm lazy about the tech options though, jab is just too easy most of the time. Also, I'm really bad at short hop out of shield (not really sure why, I can shffl out of dash, walk, and stand no problem), but I'll put more thought into the backwards nair hit out of shield, that would be really useful against dorf's approaches.

If you're wanting to improve your Dthrow tech chase game, definitely look up Mask's vids, he's a beast at it.

Just some friendly disrespect Kip and I were doing. First time I've finally put my Zard on film so take jabs. I'm still trying to fully get a handle on things since his spacing is different from what I'm used to. :(

Scatz, besides spacing as you mentioned that you are still working on, here are some things:
- definitely opt for fly (grounded down b to avoid any confusion lol) more if you are going for a follow up when the opponent is high up.
- the jab is something that you will learn to love as it stops almost every approach. If not jab then side tilt.
- in ness's case, when he uses pk thunder to attack you in midair use the nair to cancel it, this applies to a lot of projectiles.
- use up throw when it is almost a guarentee kill otherwise back throw and down throw are the way to go
- Since zard's edge guard game is godlike, if they manage to grab the ledge still I would recommend to just be patient at that point
- approaches with a non rar nair can be risky and easily punishable. The move non rar is typically used for mid combo game imo but even then is situational. But a well spaced rar nair will aggravate some people :)
- I definitely like some of the tech chase stomps you got or attempted because stomp usually leads to death
- then there's glide shenanigans which are useful for when you are not quite sure what to do in the air and then just fall slowly, but I'll save that for when we next meet since glide has a lot of usage on it's own

Finally got some good vids going up. Unfortunately I don't have much other than my set against SSoft and some doubles matches, but this'll do for now.

- vs BAM (Ivy/Kirby): https://youtu.be/f1zWq23OUnA (This one is short, but I pull off some funny stuff in it.)

Doubles with my partner Jimbo (Bowser):

- vs Gara & BFFN (Meta Knight/Ike/Roy): https://youtu.be/FWKGzL2JqFU
- vs Lewd & Ogopogo (Zelda/Fox/Wolf): https://youtu.be/p2BWGMi8U-4
- vs Scatz (How dare you not use Zard lol) & CR2 Ninkendo64 (Yoshi/Mario/Pika): https://youtu.be/M93MYVlO8SM
- vs Rooster & Xtreme (Ness/Wario): https://youtu.be/G6pVMPaqQb8

Got 3rd at a pretty stacked tourney last Friday. Here's the set with Zard I managed to get recorded:

Bubbaking vs Captain Smuckers (Losers Finals)

I don't usually have such a hard time with Falcon, but Smuckers is probably the best player of the character in this region. If anyone could give me some critique or tips on what I could be doing better, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm back, and I'll be adding Zards VoDs to the newly made 3.6 folder from here on out. I haven't been keeping up with the zard scene as much as I should, so if anyone knows about VoDs on youtube or twitch I could add to the front of high-level zard play, bring it here =]

For now tho, here's what I've found!

Matchups Sorted by Character
{ Tourney Name [Set] | Zard Player (+Secondary) vs. Opponent }
