Well what I did was I told Mum all the people that are going (she doesn't know anyone but I just told her the names) and told her that they're all cool and I reassured her that no one there would do anything stupid. I also said that I'd do all my study/homework and organise stuff like writing a resume and driving lessons so yeah, say you'll do something around the house if you can go.

Nothing against Sam but i honestly didn't think he would get 1st so congratulations it's definately inspiring to see you take the throne_ This really makes me motivated to bring the pain at SQUAT so i'll be accepting all forms of training_ Physical, mental, jedi powers i'll take it all_

I think most of us need to really start focusing on stepping out games up for squat.
I also really want to get on board with this perth national idea. We really need to start collaborating and sharing more ideas and really sort of getting into it. Id feel better if a bit more planning was going on because it feels like were just waiting for the date.

I think robert should come on sunday so we can have everyone who is there and interested in helping with this discuss ideas and talk about how we can make this happen. Its something i want to be a part of in a big way:D

Eastern Invasion Plans

I plan for our Eastern Invasion to be a 3-day event, sometime in the July holidays.
It will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I know Friday might be difficult, but in order to have plenty of time to fit everything I think that these days are the best. Besides, it will be in school holidays and I'm sure anyone that works can get a day off or something well in advance.

So something like this?

Friday:

-Payment and Registration for all events
-Melee Doubles Pools and Bracket
-Melee Singles Pools and Bracket

Saturday:

-Side event tournament of some sort (most likely brawl+ or low tier, up for reasonable suggestions)
-Brawl Doubles Pools and Bracket

Sunday:

-Brawl Singles Pools and Bracket
-Crew Battles (should have time for melee and brawl)


It will most likely be at the Perth Convention Centre since it has the finest facilities for everything we will need for an event this scale. We will also need to organise accomodation and perhaps even strike a deal with a nearby hotel or something.

I am looking at having at LEAST 60 people at this, and we will probably be wanting at least 15 setups. I definitely think this is possible, as long as interstate players can bring their wiis.

More suggestions please.

Yes good idea but the convention centre will cost a LOT.

I reckon we should do crews on day 2. Leave day 3 just for brawl singles unless we want it to end late.

If its housing you need i can probably house two or three people. Anyone who wants to house with me should be prepared to couch it though

I think keep the main events to saturday and sunday since i think more people would be available on saturday. If people are at uni then then its more likely that they could make it, just be sure to consider uni students
Then again i dont have much experience with these things. hopefully someone with a bit more experience doing this kinda thing could help us out

Our real issue here is cost of the convention centre. Can someone perhaps give em a call?

Of course convention centre is going to cost a lot, but a cheap venue isn't going to do the job for a tournament of this scale. If we get lots of people attending, then the venue fee for everyone shouldn't be too bad.

I'm all for crews last because it is generally the climax of every major tournament and it's good to get a crowd spectator atmosphere going in the last moments of the event. It's also the final decider for who the best state is Generally crews are also a good time to reflect and share some laughs with other smashers when you're not playing too.

In all honesty i propose making the Friday a crew battles,side event + brawl doubles day to get everyone into the mood and swing of things_ Keep Saturday as a Brawl singles day with room for a finishing side event and Sunday as Melee_

Convention centre would be great but i suggest perhaps we approach gaming distributors as possible sponsors to perhaps strike a deal with the convention centre_ We can possibly find out if any of these companies have contacts or are willing to organise something with the convention centre_ Hey if we need to advertise or promote **** then so be it if it means reducing costs or helping out with tournament needs_

We need to make this big so the convention centre is our best choice overall and should be our primary target_ I was actually contemplating trying to get in contact with the guys from 'good game' to see if they wanted to do a story on the brawl scene or perhaps even be special guest commentators **** i dunno_

I think Brawl Singles should be on the last today because generally they are the climax of the tournament imo. I'll discuss convention centre stuff with ym dad as he knows a lot of people in that industry and might be able to get a discount or something, getting sponsors sounds really good, I'm sure they wouldn't mind throwin a few bucks our way if we put up posters and stuff for them etc

Also Bob good idea getting some gaming media to advertise us could be very beneficial.

As long as it's held during the School Summer holidays, Unis should be on holidays as well (Uni breaks and school breaks coincide over the Summer and Winter holidays almost all the time )... I'd probably suggest early February assuming schools would go back in the second week of Feb (if we aim for the last week of holidays that will be enough time for the school people to get back and recover)...

As far as I know (from going to other events in the Con. Center) there's a whole string of rooms on the first floor that can be separated by partitions - not too sure what the smallest "size" you can get them is, but one of those should be enough :D If that fails, I do remember a few rooms up on the next level - one having a terrace-style view over the river (however no "walls" to block the actual room off - more of a mass dining area), and the other an actual room with (from memory) a big projection screen - though the projection screen may have just been set up by the organisers of that event (didn't delve too much into that xD It was a while ago)...

From memory, I'd say the best room would be the last one I mentioned - it'd easily fit in 150 people (probably even up to 300) and I think has a big white wall/screen/thing to project an image on... Cost wise, I'm guessing it'd be middle of the range since it's secluded and more "private", but still looks nice (or at least it did when I was there xD)... Of course, this was a few years ago, and things may have changed since then

I guess next tournament we really need to talk in a group and work this out, it might also be a good idea to get every entrant to write down their full name and signature on a sheet just to show the kind of attendance we get to these events.

Shotgun being our official 'businessman'_ I look good in leather, erm suits_ Also i'm the only one old enough to be taken seriously and i can always resort to the seduction techniques_

If we talk over ideas and suggestions during our next few tournaments, i'm talking **** like finding out where to hold it, pricing, possible numbers, then i can look at creating some kind of formal documentation to outline our plans to distribute to companies, alongside arranging some serious talks and discussions with their proprietors/ managers_

If we get the go ahead from gaming distributors, then we can use this to our benefit by having them contact and arrange distribution of our posters throughout their stores alongside some serious bargaining weight when finalizing venue costs_ We can look into hitting them up for possible prizes or sponsored trophies_

Trav nice to see you liked the idea of getting our scene publicity_ In all honesty if we can get the guys from 'good game' then thats a great start to getting our scene the coverage it needs to help it expand_

Oh and lastly_ We should have cosplay_ I'm deadly serious about this_ Not only does it attract gamers, but it also attracts outside attention to our scene and finally ITS ****ING TOO AWSOME_ But seriously it would get us some extra coverage and attention_

Cosplay scares me... Nothing against it, it's just I get freaked out when I see even one guy in a Naruto costume, let alone several hundred in the same vacinity... I'll just close my eyes as I wade through the crowd to get to where I need to go
