At <16%, it is ALWAYS better when you get a grab to either F-throw U-smash or D-throw nair. ALWAYS!

You seem to be a little OOS nair happy. If you dont' have the range, it would be better to either OOS approaching SH dair, or drop shield F-tilt/D-tilt.

I'm kinda mad U-throw thunder worked.

1:55 I'm gonna practice that...how did you....nice.

When MK is at % where he doesn't get combod anymore but D-throw nair, don't be grab happy. Don't run in and grab unless he is being shield happy since he doesn't wanna get U-smashed. You literally walked, and grabbed while out of range, and he F-tilted you for it. Then right after you ran shield grabbed. It really isn't necessary. Play the shield game or the spacing game or T-jolt game. Dont' try to get grabs like you would when he is at CG %

MK > Pikachu at the windmill. Also, touch up on your punishes of his glide attack on shield. Don't rely on the gimmick F-throw CG that isn't actually legit. He could've jump daired you for free. Don't get thunder happy either. MK, from A LOT of places, can end up hitting you for it. Do it when you know you won't be hit for it (B-reversing helps a lot with this)

You have a pretty solid Pika.

I mean...any time I try to hit people out of Nado at the top I always just clash with it...then get hit. Is there any special way to do it? I always find myself right above it. Is it impossible to do while they are moving?

I heard you gaiz liek peekahchooz

Seriously though, I'm new here. I've been playing Pikachu lately because he's the best character I can play while still enjoying the game and I feel like I naturally clicked with the character when I picked him up (also Ness isn't cutting it anymore). So anyway I have a bunch of videos of my Pika from Apex and although I am looking for critique I know these matches are gonna look (really) bad to the good Pikas... Apex was my first time playing the game in 3 months and the first time I used Pika in tourney, but Apex made me love this game again and I finally feel like I'm playing a character I really want to play that is also tourney viable, so I wanna take the next steps to level up (but I'm all out of Rare Candies).

vs TeeVee :rob:

vs Suinoko :diddy:

vs Mister E :pikachu2:

There are some AT's (dtilt slide for instance) that I didn't even know about before Apex that I'm now working on mixing into my game. I had also planned on writing down the chain-grab %'s for all characters before I left for Apex but that didn't happen so I was basically going by memory on those XD. Also I dunno why I failed so many pivots (sh-pivot-jolt mainly) but I did so maybe I was nervous or something.

Any critique welcome though.

(I have no idea why my capture card makes things so bright nor any idea why there's no sound, I definitely had sound enabled recording/editing these xd)

Alright. I wasn't sure that actually worked on MK beyond like 3%.

I'm kinda mad U-throw thunder worked.
Believe me, I was probably at least as confused that it worked as you were angry.

Pray/attempt to get directed over the center of nado. Mash A.

I'm not nitpicking, I honestly don't know what that "but" is supposed to be. Is that supposed to read "comboed anymore by" or more like "he doesn't get comboed anymore except by..."

Believe me, the "chaingrab" was just a "see what I can get away with/see what happens (I got away with a uthrow->thunder, after all)." It is not part of my normal game. Grabbing him out of the shuttle loop was still fun though.

You have a pretty solid Pika.
Only sporadically. Other times I just get run over.

Thanks for the critique.

The but is because he won't get CG'd, he wont' get F-thow U-smashed, all he will get is D-throw nair to the face. So, when he won't get combos by anything but D-throw nair, dont' be grab happy.

Miquel, you are definitely a better Pika than I am, so I feel weird critiquing. That being said, I feel like I have a handle on this matchup.

First of all, if you play a camping game against Olimar, you are going to lose. His pikmin will take most of your tjolts, and you will get punished pretty hard on landing after you use them. Use tjolts sparingly against Olimar. About half of the time that you were punished, it was because you jumped and tjolted in the same pattern several times in a row, and he saw it coming.

Olimar has like no priority; what he has is range. Given that fact, Olimar will usually shield if you are doing an aerial approach while he is on the ground. He will either shield or pivot grab that is. If he shields, you can do an empty short hop and grab him, or you can jump behind him and dsmash (given that people usually drop their shields for a sec after they realize you didn't do an attack).

Once you get Olimar into the air, it's usually easier to punish him once he hits the ground than to follow up in the air. For example, if you chase him in the air and he superarmors through your uair, he may get a free smash on you. Olimars usually airdodge or superarmor back to the ground to try and reset their stage control, so I like to wait on the ground and dsmash them or pivot grab. If I ever do follow him in the air, I like to use bair to punish any airdodging or superarmor. I guess the important thing to remember is that Olimar usually isn't trying to beat you in the air if you are below him; he's usually just trying to slip past you and get back on the stage.

I tend to grab Olimar a lot in this matchup. I find that grabby characters abuse their shields and aren't typically prepared to get grabbed themselves (with the exception of Falco).

I also wouldn't qac too much in this matchup, as it is really easy to pivot grab. The risks seriously outweigh the rewards.

Like I said, you are a much better Pikachu than I am, and the Olimar is probably better than the Olimars I have been playing. Still, I hope at least some of that helps.

Just another day.
Welp, I got a good amount of matches to watch. I'll critique everyone that posts in here for a little while, but I wouldn't expect them to be immediate. Got a lot of stuff happening this week.

I'll be doing Miquel, and Anti. Anyone else that wants help, just post afterwards, and I'll add you.

Thats almost true. His grab beats out ftilt. But ftilt is amazing in this MU, lol.

I watched two of your Olimar matches. The main thing I see pikachus doing wrong in this matchup is that they try to outcamp olimar. His pikmin are going to take most of your jolts anyway (if not all of them), so you are just giving him a surplus of yellow and purple pikmin. That's the one thing I really noticed.

Some matches I recorded last week. Not the best opponent since this Kirby is my friend (He isn't the one that scares me from playing this MU). Critique if possible.

Your not really good at punishing are you? lol. Anyway using qac until the opponent looks like he is figuring u out that works. Camping with b attack would be your main thing to do if this wasnt yi. Saced dtilts and RAR uairs are good for spacing against kirby. You basically just dont know the matchup also wut was with the grab after dthrow on the first match cant cg kirby go for nair of course or usmash if you know the exact time to launch it after dthrow. Shield approaching is not that effective vs kirby seeing how his moves are short range or predictable while bair and ftilt are definetely out of these groups. A little too much uair there was alot of times where you couldve just naird safely. Messed up your recovery a few times and some side bs were not to be used. You also gave kirby alot of free utilts. Dthrow<Nair<footstool lol. You hold down on 1 of the bairs you ate no good dude almost died early by his bair from the other side of the stage. Free grabz by kirby! fill free to spotdodge or roll. Some the attacks that hit your shield ik you couldve reacted fast enough. The up bs kirby got you with are unebelivable. I respect dash attack as a unpredictable move that has a little more active hitbox than a few of pika's moves but you can use other moves nice buffers for them though. Some of these fsmashes are just meh. Nair<nair not a combo retreat instead. The stage helped you a few times. Seriously dont be afraid to dodge.

biggy using my espeonchu yay!

anyways, i didnt see too many bad things, but u 2 stocked both matches so ya lol.

v kirby i dont shield as much since as pz said his range isnt that great aside from dtilt and i find when i shield i get grabbed v aloat kirbys cuz they want that gonzo combo, even tho we can di it fine. i noticed he wldnt do the bufferd reverse utilt to bair gonzo on you, which i think is a much better one.

ya nair oos and usmash oos work good on kirby if you are in shield, but always be careful cuz he'll wana grab you.

he didnt use bair very much in this which is surprising cuz bair is one of the only tools that kibry has on us lol. basically just camping v kirby till he gets close then punishing him with whatev is the normal mo for this mu, but u did it fine really. its kinda hard to say what you should do diff tbh since the kirby was playing this mu all wrong which allowed you to play however you wanted and be fine lol

aside from just using more oos v kirby and less shielding ur di'ing all his bs just fine so i cant see much else to improve on, just camp more when you can here.

also, i like to use uair alot in this mu. pz said u used it too much when u clda naird, but i really like to use it beacuse being caught in uair strings makes it hard for your opponet to think, and thats when they will make the mistake that gets you the kill

I tried some Pika in doubles at a National.

Do you guys think that Pikachu excels in doubles? I get that feeling when I play him, I prefer my doubles Pikachu then my singles.

Here's two tournament matches played on October 1-3 third match didn't get saved, they ended up winning.

**** it, ESAM.
I was watching the third match and wondered HOW you lost that lead. You had him first round, too.

Good stuff either way, though.
