you can still learn from other people without copying. you are missing hte poing. you cant just copy other people, but you can still take away from other peoples play style.

everyone is still learning. Tiger Woods still has an coach because he isnt perfect but he's still the best in the world. There are still things people can learn from others from observation and application because you can learn eveyrthing by yourself. You find yourself one dimensional and narrow minded.

im not saying **** combos arent cool

im just saying youre not a better player for doing them

if you think people doing cool moves in street ball are better players than those in the nba who win games, youre wrong, thats all there is to it. if you dont think that, then theres no problem here.

I don't think there better players, I just think they have more fun

Fun is subjective so cannot be defined.
If one has fun camping, no one can say that isn't fun, as it is fun to that person.

If the crowd may find a big combo fun, the smasher in the tourny finds the money he may win alot more fun than showing off.

Fun = important
But fun is subjective so cannot be defined by one person for the other.

And if the person finds showing off more fun than the possible money he/she may win, then that person may/will show off, and should in this case, As that person fully supports his/her own descision.

NOT if there is money on the line.
Fun is important, but it has no meaning during a tourny match.
I kinda agree, but if you enter the tourny to compete in a game you love, have fun doing it. Don't just kill your spirit playing a way you don't want to, just to win.

Play to learn in friendlies.

Play to win in tournaments.

Play to have fun. Its a freakin game.

Simple enough.

eventually your gonna need to change your style cuz people are gonna figure you out cactuar. and i hope everyone can eventually change to doing what works to creating there own new things.
You don't know what you are talking about. The reason I am so effective is because I am constantly adapting. I don't have a set style. Even if someone figured me out, they would still fail because I would adapt past what they have learned in the same instant. Everything I do is based around reading and reacting to my opponent. I go out of my way to explain the way I play all over the boards, and even with me blatantly telling people how I play, I still tear people apart.

In addition to this, I have a massive amount of experience in almost every region in the US, and I have taken pieces of each region's respective generic style and added to my basic game. Very few players have that amount of versatility in their arsenal.

I agree. This is very important in a lot of high level play. You may "steal" something from someone, but you need to learn how to adapt things to fit you, and essentially make it your own. Too many players focus on stealing certain techniques and don't realize that those techniques don't even work with their style, and lack the talent to adapt it to themselves.

like that one time you got *** ***** by m2k at event 52.....

I mean I respect your abilities and the fact that besides m2k your probaby the best in the country.

but why did this all of a sudden turn into a cactuar hyping himself hypefest?

go beat jeff with fox and then come back and talk about how amazing you are.

Cactuar isn't lying about any of that it's completely true
the fact that its true makes it funny.

Lol. Yes. I got ***** by M2K in the Grand Finals of a tournament that I only went to because he told me that he wanted me to go and get top 2. I do pretty much anything M2K tells me to do when it comes to melee. I mean, if you really think those sets were a good example of me vs M2K, that's fine.

I'm not trying to hype myself up, I just hate it when people talk and have no idea what they are talking about. I am very blunt about these things, and I have a pretty accurate view on what my abilities are. I am not second best to M2K. There are a lot of other really good players out there, so I would never presume to tell people where I am. According to M2K, I am like top 5, but I don't think that is entirely accurate as his judgement is often skewed.

As much as I talk about how good >>> one aspect of my gameplay is <<< , I have a huge flaw in that I don't know how to combo very well, so even if my hit ratio is like 5:1 vs other top level players, a lot of them only need 1-3 first hits and they will take a stock. I also suck at edgeguarding a lot of characters, so I tend to just sit on the stage and wait for them to come up.

but really he just 3 stocked him without taking any damage...

grab hitbox lasts for 2 frames cactuar, 7-8, so your post on that a while back is inaccurate. But yeah it's not extremely hard to grab out of illusion if they decide to aim it right through the middle of your body.

IMO at primes I think I'm the best, then KDJ/PC, then Ken/Azen/Mango, then Chu/Shiz/Cactuar. This is just my opinion though and it's very arguable. It really varies a lot and depends on the matchup. I think KDJ/Ken/Azen/Cactuar for instance are a lot better vs Jiggs than me, I think Cactuar's the best vs falcon when he's playing good, there's too many factors, so it's just a rough educated list.

Right now it's probably me and Mango as the best 2 then like Cactuar/Shiz then like Jman?/Darkrain?/SS? after that, or something. I don't know. No one really plays anymore, so everyone sucks now. Honestly I blame a lot of that on Brawl.

edit - oh ya being able to beat someone does not = better than the person. Otherwise Husband is better than Vidjo. It's overall player ability that I look at. I don't care if SS beats me or even ***** me. Darkrain 2 and 3 stocked PC in pools at Pound3 but we know PC is better than him. Tourney consistency over a long period of many big tourneys is probably the most important thing. I haven't gotten 2nd at a melee tourney since pound3 even though I haven't been playing. I just became a good player over time. If I quit for a long time but then play for like 2 days before a tourney I'm not significantly worse than I used to be in my prime because I still retain most of the knowledge I'm just not used to playing. I think Brawl makes you worse at Melee but I'll try to do good at both. I usually concentrate more on Brawl though since it's a bigger game now, but it'll be cool if I can do good at both games.

ohhhh man, i can bet everything i own that a street ball player would whoop any nba player. just becuase of the ability to cross them over and over again...

if you can be flashy vs a good player, you are the better player..and sexier player

.
ANY nba guard would get in their pockets and take their lunch money. they also are out of shape, dont have quick first steps, and dont really know how to work in a real offense. im generalizing so im only referring to like 95% of the and1 tour.

that post randomly upset me, but flashy does=fun for me and i always try to incorporate flash in a useful way, like when i think of a tactic it has to be actually useful for something. i think it looks real dumb when someone does something pointlessly flashy that makes zero sense to do in that situation.

in short u can play to win and look good at the same time, just dont TRY to look good or it will be forced and wont look good

disclaimer: im not good haha

you gotta be kidding saying that an nba could steal the ball from a street player. thats seriously funny. maybe if they were playing with nba rules the maybe. but nah not on the street, no way.

cept...i dont know i like watching good team defense or a fluid offense rather than watching streetball stuff...its cool for a while then it gets boring imo...watching a team play good defense or run their offense well is fun for me to watch...but maybe thats cuz i played hoops :/

it is different because people have time to think out their arguments, come up with sources, etc.

dont get me wrong, i like watchin nba, its alright i mean, it gets boring if the teams are bad and have neither offence of defence. but what makes the game exiting are the exiting players. like jordan, always did something amazing. the play maker right there. and we won his games lol.. i played too, but when it came to playing on a team, my jv was reaaaalll bad and i was gonna be the star player, you know the one to get the ball to and so i was like nah and i quit. i wanna be surrounded by good players that do work. i never even thought about the varsity team but i hear there good.

oh and yea thats exactly what it is

melee is to brawl as street ball is to nba...
or is it the other way around...
or maybe melee is a bit of both and brawl is like playing with a toy basketball and the 3 foot tall hoop you got as a kid
