Did anybody actually say "Hey we should get the projector for Melee so people can watch it that would be cool right?"? I don't recall hearing anybody mention swapping it to melee.

May everyone please try to bring TVs tomorrow (along with consoles and copies of Smash as per usual), as all of the TVs that have been left at the convent since the last monthly are not guaranteed to still be there (this is the worst case scenario). I checked a week ago and they were still sitting pretty, so hopefully after this monthly, some people can offer to adopt a TV or two for a while, as I can no longer be responsible for what is, the entire Melbourne Smash Community's TV supply. It's too much for one person.

I think we should for melee at least considering we have finished earlier the brawl every time this year, it couldn't exactly hurt timewise =)

Wow these monthlies have been dreadful to me. Last month my car was syphoned of fuel the night before coming, with rain getting into the fuel tank owning up my engine. Now this month and some wad nearly caused a head-on collision with me, with it being all I could do to instead side-swipe someone else to avoid said wad.
That said I want to apologise for bailing so early - and especially to you Mikul for having my head and often attention elsewhere so often, and no doubt tarnishing your day.
Hope it all went well and everyone had fun.

Cheers.

Results!

1 - Dekar/CAOTIC/Kulla/Toshiba

Thoughts:

I had a great time at this monthly because I didn't have to organize and run most of this monthly (due to the Zombie Shuffle). It was presumptuous to think that the community would be able to time-manage itself, because by the time I got back, teams was still running for both games close to 6pm. The events should have started at 1pm, not 2-3pm. Participants should make the effort to ensure things run to schedule - and not sit on their backsides waiting for someone else to tell them what to do.

People were quick to point out that each game was hi-jacking the other and there weren't enough setups, but we had a total of 10-12 tvs amongst us. As per usual, several tvs were sitting idle and they weren't being used because people didn't bring setups.

So before people blame someone or something, think about that contributions they bring to the running of a smash tournament. I think this is a lesson for the Smash Community in Melbourne. I believe they are spoilt, slack with support and rely too much on the work of TOs who shouldn't have to be this subservient to others.

Of course, there are many helpers in the scene and I think them sincerely for it, but there's not nearly enough support sometimes, and this tournament showed it.

Agreed. Next tourney someone other than Cao should entirely run melee and see if it runs. I can bring my laptop and run the brackets purely for melee so that people wont be confused about where the brackets are unlike last night where everything was on one computer. That is if we need it. It took much too long for people to finish doubles because there was brawl, melee, brawl+ and ssf4 going at the same time. For brawl+ tourneys and side tourneys like that with low competitor counts can we not have them at monthlies and move them to n2c or something to make people less engaged and open for matches from the major tourneys.

In any case shoutouts are cool:
Toshi - man we should team again we did pree good for people who never teamed before. Lol keep carrying me and ill be happy :)
Cao- I can take 2 stocks from you which im happy about :D
Em- Show up next time >: (
timic - wow so lucky with the stich face in doubles o.o
dekar - hahaha 4stocked so bad -_- i should probably stop sucking hey
afro - lol your good for a brawl player :p next time, marth dittos
tibs - yep totally a match you guys could win, you just forgot how right?
redact - we almost had you that last game, next time we'll get you
Tim - good stuff, next time I'll have to try harder to actually win for once -_-

Sorry to any I have missed,

yep, pretty much everyone needs to bring more consoles... arrive earlier (tourneys should START at 1pm, people should be arriving at 12 which is a late start, tourneys used to start at 10am at bundoora iirc) and... singles should start before doubles even finishes imo... if i am helping run next tourney ill make **** sure we finish early

sucks because at least in melee the quality of some matches were fantastic
toshi vs kulla was looking like a great set.... and chris's combo at the end of his fd match vs kulla? holy ****
melee on projector is great too
sorry shaya, kulla and chris... hope you enjoyed the few matches you played

hope everything turned out ok with you shaz, regarding your car episode

ggs.... pr revision coming

shoutouts:
kulla: ggs, you're so different to em
toshi: you're so good and you keep getting better, nice
timic: don't be upset yo, problem with having so many good players around the same skill level is that when you pit two of them against each other, either of them could easily win on any given day. dw you'll have your day
tibs: oh mah gawwd you sexy man why didn't you beat tak that **** was heartbreaking for me and i was watching not playing.. <3 <3
tak: solid
attila: grats, you and timic were the only ones to take a match off me all day i think lol... you are no joke
chris: you are great
atticus: try not to get in the way in teams ffs, need to work on that ok yes, also hold some more stock next time, just a tip
shaya: good brawl+ set lol... didn't think i'd be saying that
em: if you'd come you would have had fuuun

There are numerous little things that could have improved our time efficiency but the ultimate problem is we just didn't kick off the brackets early enough - if we had started doubles shortly after 1 PM and started singles while the end of doubles was being held up in Brawl, we would likely have finished with time to spare.
I don't think arriving earlier is necessary...1 PM is the official start time of Couch Warriors so people still turning up about then is expected. It becomes a problem when you delay the bracket creation to accomodate people who are late. 5-10 minutes is reasonable, not 2 hours.

Results (as best I can remember):

Singles...
Unfinished matches
- Dekar (waiting in grand finals)
- CAOTIC (waiting in losers finals)
- Toshi vs. Kulla in losers semis
Placings
5. Chris / Atticus
7. Redact / Tak

Doubles...
1. Dekar & Atticus
2. Redact & Tak
3. Chris & Bryan

Other thoughts:

- Stage striking worked well. I think we need to be clearer about what the stagelist is...we used the MBR set for neutrals (in my matches at least) but there were definitely some non-MBR counterpicks being used (Poke Floats).
- Almost all my matches were very close! We're in a time right now where most of the competition is tight, there's a lot of people who can beat each other depending on who's having a good day.
- Another impressive performance from Toshi. Very quick-thinking and precise Fox, and easily the fastest improving player in the Melbourne scene at the moment.
- I want to offer my sincere condolences to our good friend Vincent aka "Forte" for his sacrifice in missing out on free KFC to arrive in times for singles. Our thoughts are with you brother.
- Good to see you JP. When are you going to change focus to the one true sequel to 64? :)
- Wish the waterfall got recorded. Any ****ter can get 10 kills D...next time we team, try for 15.

Shoutouts time =D

Toshi: You are officially a better Fox player, cause you don't do dumb **** like me =)
Redact: Can't team with you properly, always end up doing the wrong thing aka approach when I shouldn't and stay back when I shouldn't =/
Tibs: Good set brah, you missed a few followups from throws that would have taken a stock but regardless your Doc is still a gimping machine =D
Attila: Sorry i didn't play you in Melee man, I was trying to hurry up my matches considering we were running out of time =/
Kulla: Same with you, I really wanted to play your Shiek but was busy playing 3 games at once. Definatly will play you next time though (at Robocop if you come <3) =D
Dekar: Good Support in my matches man, you were clearly rooting for me in every match =P ROFL at your third strike matches and when you ninjad the TV
Shaya: Didn't get to talk to you, I wanted too but was busy =( Also I feel bad about the TV being moved (even though it was kind of funny)
Cao: I didn't talk to you either ugh, the zombie shuffle looked amazing. I didn't know that this was a huge thing in the city, I figured it was just a smash thing lol
Atticus: I apologize for not being worthy enough to have the waterfall technique used on me
Chris: Epic set, that was the worst counter pick ever though. If your still around next Saturday you should come see Iron Man with us =)
Bryan: I'm glad your Peach has improved a fair bit, also just picture at Robocop Grand Finals, Dekar's wii running on a projector and stereo rofl <3

Courtesy of accident I'm now working rather than going back to school. Wont be able to attend singles from here on out - however I'll do my best to make it for the first couple of hours, and hopefully the flipping organisation is at the point we can expect the double to start some time on the same day as the event. I knew we shouldn't have trusted a dude who still can't shave himself with something so important as handling a tourney...and I thought you were cool Deks :O!

Who is Toshi? I have to beat him up with his own characters.

I think it was only Chris vs Kulla and Me vs Kulla that was recorded. Doubles may have been recorded, I can't remember lol.

Kulla: I found that our matches made me nervous like I haven't been before. Your unique playstyle and mindgames really threw me off my game. It had me really doubting my approaches and baits/punishes. Your reads were great and you basically punished every habit I had lol. Top player.

Dekar: Dang I was winning too. I can't believe Slippy betrayed me like that. Ahhh, solid player, as always, and I thought that you were going to come 1st.

Cao: God, you gave me a shock. I saw someone walk past, turned to look at them... BAM! *insert image here of Cao with blood coming out of his forehead* But after the initial shock, I must say that you looked awesome.

Chris: I am impressed. Your Pikachu and Young Link is so entertaining to watch, I enjoyed it immensely. Also, that combo using all three projectiles vs Kulla was brilliant.

Forte: Zomg, thanks for your advice is against Shiek. I'm going to implement it into my game and I won't dissappoint (hopefully)! Much appreitiated <3

Atticus: Our matches were great. Your Fox really changed my whole game. You really had me thinking that if I got grabbed once, it'll be a stock. Great matches. Pink Falcon dittos on Port Aero Drive (the Falcon stage) in Brawl+ was pretty cool. What were the odds of that happening? lol

Redact: ggs, your edgeguarding game is spot on and never missed a tech. Thanks for the advice. If it weren't for you, I'd probably be playing mindlessly most of the time. Also, I accept your proposal (the pr one, not the abandon school one).

Tak: I hope to get a few more matches with you next time. We only had like, one, and the Kongo Jungle one doesn't count lol.

Surgi: Great teams partner. We were awesome, despite not teaming before. You played really well and those "sniper" were great. We were just a little unlucky in our last match lol.

Timic: Lol Brawl+. Those matches were pretty dang fun. lol at the stitchface turnip double hit for the win doubles match. That was ridiculous.

Unlucky: I'm still not used to Yoshis lol. They're so weird! Fun matches and hopefully we can do some commentary lol.
