Drop doubles if there's a chance it's going to interrupt singles for sure. Otherwise i thoroughly enjoy playing doubles.

Up for teaming SD?

Edit: Bummed you're not coming down spup.

More on the doubles debate.

As for commentary it depends on who brings what. For the main stream finals however I am assuming there will be a pretty professional setup for 2 commentators. These people will likely be assigned by the TOs. As for the rest of the tournament if there are recording setups and mics it will generally be whoever is interested in having a go - or at least that is usually the case.

While we're on commentary I think this is an important read
http://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/23rkqp/professionally_representing_smash/

browse the comments, there are some insights from Prog in there too.

While we won't have the same sort of following as the US scene at BAM, there will still be a decent audience and we need to represent ourselves well, particularly on the main stage. This is the primary issue with people wanting to commentate, but not being particularly good at it, which actually turns viewers off. I know there are streams that I have muted because I could not stand the commentary (PG Carroll is one). I'd like people who are considering commentary to REALLY honestly assess whether you're appropriate for the role. Aside from gratifying your own little agenda, recognise that as a community we need better than that.

I think commentating at SS went down well with both games. Good mix of knowledge and color.

I think exhibitions should be commentated over the loud speaker for the crowd to here; I think it's a better way to get them involved, provided is hype.

Are all the rules going to follow the Apex ruleset? Maybe not Brawl cause the 1-stock thingy, but P:M and Melee will both be Apex rules, I assume.

can we confirm some exhibition events or even crews yet?
come on ;__;

Also are we doing P:M doubles? It's not specified just says "pools and finals"

To be fair, the vast majority are being incredibly unhelpful... I ask for feedback or suggestions, and I either get no reply or people just wanting to commentate. It makes planning our confirming anything really difficult.

For exhibitions, I was thinking apollo/tin vs me/tibs for brawl, and syke vs dekar (marth only, fd only, items off). But I haven't had any feedback or suggestions from anyone else.

As an aside, for any exhibitions that might take place, I'd like commentary to be done from people within the crowd, performed over a loud speaker. I raised this with CW at a meeting yesterday, and they agreed that for smash, this would be a good idea. It would give us a chance to explain to the FGC what exactly is going on, and why certain parts are hype.

I don't know who should fill this role yet. But if anyone nominates themselves and meaninglessly delays progress, I pray they get infracted. Shaya pls.

Is SurPr15e (Me) vs the world still happening? If so who are the competitors. If it is not happening, then who is my alternate opponent. A suggestion I have for exhibitions/crew battles is New Smashers vs Old Smashers with one old Smasher in the new Smashers team and a new smasher in the old Smashers team to spice things up. If SurPr15e vs the world is happening. What I suggest we should do (At Dekar's suggestion) is my one man crew (myself) vs a several handful of smashers picked by the community with a total of 20-24 stocks. To spice things up and make an even playing field for myself. I am not restricted to character lock. However I cannot change my character mid match with my current opponent and can only change character with a different opponent if I choose to. What do you think.

More than anything, I think you need to use question marks in your posts.

Otherwise, surprise vs the world is not going to be on the main setup. Not a chance.

I don't think we have the luxury of the time to make suhparize vs the world an exhibition?

I feel like SD in an exhibition could be good if you wanted to showcase the speed of melee.

let's defs do crews friday night

as for the main stage/stream, doubles is far harder to watch and waaaay less hype (hence the recent arguments to remove it entirely), why not just do singles?

s-tier players will probably end up versing in the bracket finals on sunday anyway, so instead why not have lower ranked players versing? not only stuff like splice vs cal, but also relatively new and unknown players like cody vs ktmfinx and vorn vs hughie, perhaps even surprise vs someone from oos. that **** would be interesting and hype imo, the standard top player 5v5 interstate crews we can take care of ourselves in the smash-specific area

alternate approach: joey alone on battlefield doing basic luigi tech and misfires for 20 minutes

I wouldn't mind versing someone from oos. It may spice up the environment and will provide me my biggest challenge yet. Trust Dekar to provide brilliant, thoughtful and beautiful ideas. Also I think Dekar's ideas for exhibitions are good ones.

Dekar Brawl doubles is pretty hype and interesting to watch. I think the doubles issue resides mostly with Melee where it's Le Grande Cluster**** w/ Spastic Camera smorgasbord.
I was thinking we could at least confirm which good players are coming from interstate for crew battles, and that should definitely be played on the big screen. Stream is a secondary priority, but we want to make it the best for the people who are there.
Definitely a good idea to incorporate some of those mid tier rivalries though Dave.

I'd be happy to bop Cal and I'd also be happy to play an exhibition set, Mewtwo vs Mewtwo with Syke on da b1g screen, not sure how much hype it would generate but I'm sure there are people who would enjoy watching Zac lose? :smash:

Vorn vs Me? I know he goes to meets on the regular so I think playing him would be pretty fun, and by the sounds of it he's good. And I haven't gone to an event since Shadowloo cause stuff has been conflicting with the dates.

Also I can help record pools and stuff with my dazzle. I can't go on Friday night either.

Hey everyone it's my first tournament and I was wondering whether anyone was dumb enough to want to enter a doubles tourney with me.

My Brawl tech skill is not there yet. However I main Falco can press b, shorthop and dair, and pull out a back air. Falcos uptilt is pretty good in a pinch for me too. Chaingrabs as well, though I doubt doubles will let me do that.

I can also do a sheik and a marth. They are probably a close second to my Falco.

I'm a 21 uni student if that helps.

Friday crews as the main exhibitions. Vic vs OOS

Rivalries/Salt are best for exhibitions. Syke vs Dekar, Marth v Falcon is one. Redact vs Tedeth is another.

PCG vs Miles for the mid-tier players.

Surprise sorry bud but you vs anyone will bore me ****less. Really no offence, but it's probably not ideal for an exhibition.

I'm guessing Cao isn't coming? Cuz he would be a good candidate for some exhibition matches.

Attila as it looks like I'm not really in the mix for exhibitions I'd be glad to do something over the mic for melee, however solo commentary is a really strange gig and I don't always think it works particularly well. If it were possible to have the loudspeaker and commentary mics synched I think that would be best.

Let's do it!

I'm super looking forward to this. This community sounds super awesome. The Falco dair combos will be so real.

And on another topic I'd like to enter melee with my last play sesh being years ago.

Is there any way I can sit down with the game a little before it all start? I'd like to perform a wavedash before someone bops me. I used to like shiek, I figure shiek can be okay sans wavedash.

at a major tournament such as this, there will be less room for friendlies, but short "finger warmers" are always allowed before each tournament match

I'd nominate DD Vs AJTN for low tier exhibition match however I'm not sure CQ can contain all the salt generated/Alexi show up. My hand right hand is completely broken ATM so he has a slight chance.

Tedeth is confirmed?
No, he isn't. If he was, i'd put him against Tedeth for sure. The amount of salt there could poison the water of an entire nation. Buuuuuut I haven't heard that he's coming.

The saltiness was also the reason I brought up Syke vs Dekar. There's a bit of history there.

This is also the main reason why I don't what noobs on stream; what is there to hype up?

Crews is a possibility, but it's pretty difficult. We're likely to get less than an hour on the main setup on Friday, including the change over of setups. Not much can run; probably stick to one set of each brawl and melee.

I think the main thing that people fail to realise is how hard it is, and how much work is involved with getting a spot at this tournament. We're not just being shoved in the corner anymore. We're being accepted as part of the FGC. And if we'd like to maintain this presence, we need to put on a show.

We need to play well. We need plenty of salt. And we need the hype.

This is our chance at the big time.
