What, no Will Smith?-We need Shrek, Goku, Cory Baxter, and Reggie!
Will Smith does not have any special abilities and won't provide any new gameplay elements or fighting styles to the game.Cory Baxter has many things he could use in battle, like being himself. Shrek could use troll miiverse posts and onions, his final smash could be called "The Ogrelord", he rides Donkey across the stage like beast Ganon. Reggie doesn't need an explanation. Goku would act as the most OP character in the game. What, no Will Smith?
HahahahahHe did. It's called "With Friends" mode! :V
Because honestly, screwing around in a game is not as fun without friends.
As much as I laughed (in a good way, not in a mocking manner) you can't really compare tripping to character cuts. It just doesn't work that way.I really like tripping a lot. You are an objectively horrible person if you want it cut, because I want it not cut. Learn to love it.
That's a big problem with fighting games. They can't make a better game than Melee, but they have to keep selling copies somehow so they make slight changes to the core gameplay that are placebos and hopefully only hurt the core game a little bit.Smash 4 isn't innovative; it relies on beefing up the roster ever so slightly and gimmicks that don't even apply to the entirety of the consumer base.
Well, if we look at each version alone, it's not really innovative (except for Smash Run on 3DS, which I think is pushing the envelope for fighting games, even if it's based off of City Trial). However, making two versions for two different systems with completely different specs and features is pretty innovative, especially since they will have cross connectivity. Which we still need to know more about.Smash 4 isn't innovative; it relies on beefing up the roster ever so slightly and gimmicks that don't even apply to the entirety of the consumer base.
Hence; "gimmicks that don't even apply to the entirety of the consumer base."Well, if we look at each version alone, it's not really innovative (except for Smash Run on 3DS, which I think is pushing the envelope for fighting games, even if it's based off of City Trial). Plus, I know they are holding back SOME big game mode for the Wii U game, like how 3DS has Smash Run. There was also this hint about All-Star Mode utilising Assist Trophies in some way.
And the new characters themselves are pretty innovative. Most fighting games involving franchise crossovers just take the obvious characters. This game is not only picking one or two really big hitters (Mega Man and Little Mac), it's also taking slightly more niche characters and showing what they can do (Villager and Rosalina). And the newcomers this time around bring new play styles into the mix that we haven't really heard of in Smash.
Plus, I don't think "Smash 4 is innovative" is a popular opinion. I think it's innovative for the franchise itself (first time we've gotten an official Smash game on a handheld, among other things). However, Smash always has, and always will be, a game made for Nintendo fans, by Nintendo fans, first and foremost. It's not trying to win awards for being revolutionary, and I think most people realise that. The first game was revolutionary for gaming, but beyond that, Smash has always just been focusing on creating a better celebration for Nintendo fans than the last game. And even though it's not the most innovative game in the world, it's still the most innovative fighter franchise, especially since it only gets a new installment every few years.
I'm not directly comparing cuts to tripping, moreso just outlining the principle that everyone has different preferences on game content, be it characters, gameplay, modes or whatever, and it should come as no surprise when some users would prefer seeing certain veterans cut for newcomers, regardless of who enjoys them. At least a few fans enjoy everything, even tripping, and yet Smash marches on with new content, sometimes in place of the old.As much as I laughed (in a good way, not in a mocking manner) you can't really compare tripping to character cuts. It just doesn't work that way.
If you're talking about the current newcomers, each of them are loved for at least one reason besides having a unique play style:--While I can appreciate certain newcomers for having unique playstyles, I don't consider those unique playstyles to be justification for undue worship of those newcomers. Many characters can be given unique playstyles, not just the ones you see in front of your face
Rosalina's position is far more unique, though.@ ChikoLad I acknowledge that those reasons exist, but...you can justify just about any newcomer after the fact. Take Rosalina, for example; she has her reasons to be in, which you just described. If any other Mario character got in, however, you could make a similar write-up and have it be equally valid..."Bowser Jr. represents the Mario villains and is a recurring miniboss," "Waluigi represents sports games and has a wacky personality that's popular with fans," "Paper Mario represents the RPG games and brings partner characters with him," or whatever.
And I believe nobody has stated otherwise. This is not something that can be measured objectively on the scale of all of Nintendo's history. Really, the only definite important factor in deciding characters from Sakurai's perspective is "how they add to the atmosphere", from what we know. So really, there is no point fussing over how unique a character is. I don't necessarily look for this (because I just trust Sakurai enough at this point when it comes to making unique characters in terms of play style), so I just personally hope for the characters I like based on my connection to them. And while I may not get every character I ask for, and may get some I don't know at all (like Greninja), doesn't mean I need to go fussing over whether or not they deserved it over other characters who didn't make it.My underlying point is that the twelve or so newcomers who will become playable will almost definitely not be the twelve most absolute unique characters that could have possibly been added, just because they happened to be added. They do not have a monopoly on uniqueness as a quality.
The Starfox characters weren't really meant to be for furries. They came from Mioymottos experience with his favorite animal puppet show on television. If Wolf comes back, Sakurai needs to make him accessible and relatable to people that aren't furries.
What more can be added to Smash Bros. though?Smash 4 isn't innovative; it relies on beefing up the roster ever so slightly and gimmicks that don't even apply to the entirety of the consumer base.
Objective-based match types (like in Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble)What more can be added to Smash Bros. though?
The Smash community is 50% furries so that wouldn't really be efficient. If Wolf comes back, Sakurai needs to make him accessible and relatable to people that aren't furries.
Well, make Wolf accessible and relatable for everyone else too. Look at Villager: He's going to be enjoyed by common folk and serial killers alike. The Smash community is 50% furries so that wouldn't really be efficient.
You mean Smash Run isn't innovation?! You make Kirby weepObjective-based match types (like in Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble)
But of course stealing ideas from an almost 10 year old game isn't exactly innovation...
Says that K.Rool should appear because he's an iconic Nintendo villain, insults the most deserving Nintendo villain, double standards much?Welp... here it goes
- I think Pac-Man would be an amazing addition to Smash 4 and i personally think his inclusion would make this one of the biggest Smash games of all time
- K.Rool deserves to be in a Smash game because he's an iconic Nintendo villain.
- K.Rool and Dixie Kong would have been in Brawl if Rare was still at Nintendo and they would have returned in Smash 4
- Smash 4 would have been just fine if it played like Brawl (aside from the tripping)
- I think Ike is coming back with his Radiant Dawn look whether Chrom is added or not
- The only bad newcomer Smash 4 could have, in my opinion, is Ridley
- The idea of adding any Namco character that isn't Pac-man like Lloyd is idiotic. Hypothetically speaking, if this does happen then Sakurai will have ****** up what could have been a fantastic gathering of video game legends
- Simon Belmont wont be in Smash 4. Move on.
There... it feels good to let this all out. It probably wont feel good to the people who dont like what ive said, but whatever lol.
Unpopular opinions.Says that K.Rool should appear because he's an iconic Nintendo villain, insults the most deserving Nintendo villain, double standards much?
Oh, here's an unpopular opinion:
- Anyone who doesn't want Ridley as a fighter should just refrain from playing videogames as a whole.
I'm disgusted at the amount of Ridley hate on this thread...also midly disgusted at the Sonic hate.
EDIT: The Rosalina hate too.
Lucina can't use magic in her lord class. On the other hand Robin can use both swords and tomes, his character can be a female too depending on what you choose in the character creation screen. The end.-
- I think Fire Emblem should have either 3 or 2 reps - Marth + two randoms. Personally, I would like Lucina to be in, because a female Fire Emblem rep would be cool plus if I'm not mistaken she can also do magic (?). Whatever, I want a fire Emblem character with magic, scratch that Lucina nonsense.
Indeed. Lucina makes a lovely alternate, as she has an extremely similar design to Marth regardless. Even the Wii Fit Trainers aren't a perfect match, even less so(and some screenshots showed the Male one move in a way only the Female one looks right in doing). That said, I'm okay with cool alts.Lucina can't use magic in her lord class. IMO it was pretty obvious from the moment she was revealed that WFT was going to be a solid all around character. Large hitboxes, good areal/ground mobility, solid projectiles, ability to buff moves through Deep Breathing, etc.Wii Fit Trainer is going to be one of the best characters in the game just to spite the haters.
Well, Mega Man might not be TOP tier but I do think he'll be able to do fine. I predict that Mega Man will be that one character with a **** load of match-ups heavily in his favor as there are match-ups that aren't in his favor (a reflector move ALONE can screw over a decent number of his moves) Not sure if this is unpopular but whatever.IMO it was pretty obvious from the moment she was revealed that WFT was going to be a solid all around character. In fact I think WFT has the potential to be a High Tier character. On the other hand I don't think Megaman will end up very good. Having an entire moveset revolving around projectiles sounds gimmicky.
I think he'll most likely end up really solid against large/slower characters that can't deal with projectiles well (aka Bowswer, Ganondorf, Charizard, D3, DK, etc).Well, Mega Man might not be TOP tier but I do think he'll be able to do fine. Well that's what I meant with the reflectors. Depending on how fast Mega Man can deal them out I do think Mega Man can still pressure Villager rather easily unless Villager can collect and throw back fast enough (unless Villager can collect more than one projectile at a time, which actually WOULD be broken unlike what I'm currently seeing.) Again, he's probably going to have a bunch of really good match-ups and a bunch of really bad ones. At least, I don't really see Mega Man having an easy time with Fox.I think he'll most likely end up really solid against large/slower characters that can't deal with projectiles well (aka Bowswer, Ganondorf, Charizard, D3, DK, etc).
But on the other hand it seems as though a ton of characters have solid ways to deal with projectiles this time around. Little Mac has the speed and super armor to get around projectiles well, Rosalina has moves that reflect projectiles (and her Luma), Mario has his cape, Spacies have their shine, Villager has Collect, Zelda has Naryu's Love (and maybe even the Phantom Knight), etc. That's a lot of characters that have an answer to most of Megaman's moves.
But then again this is all just speculation so take it with a grain of salt.
[Breaths heavily]-Smash 4 is going to be brawl 2. I've already seen hitstun canceling in the direct. This is bad news. On one hand nothing is final, on the other one were mad close to the launch of the 3ds version. I don't expect such large revisions this late in development, and we already know not to expect large differences between the two versions.
-The addition of greninja pretty much proves that sakurai is running low on ideas. He won't amount to much more than a shiek/lucario hybrid. Another ****ing character with martial arts skill, chargeable neutral B, and a ****ing counter.
-Melee will over shadow everything sakurai ever does. It's kind of sad really. It's his magnum opus, the one people will remember him for, and it seems to me that he doesn't really like melee that much.
-Brawl was an objectively bad game.
