But you DID say it Clay, I'm looking at the text right here on my phone...

Clay: "There tons of techniques & tactics, char specific and not, to learn & apply.

And you said it in the context of whether or not Brawl is a deep game.

rohan clearly knows stuff about both games and kal does too.

yeah, and thats what I quoted you saying to Edgar.
And Edgar said depth can't be defined by character specific techniques.

Gosh dangit, there is a total of 2604891 times ZERO people (equals zero) that want to read about Kal and Rohan arguing, so either take it to PMs or just shutup!!!!! Rohan, you're so obsessed about defending yourself that it is really conjuring an opposite effect. Kal isn't losing any face in the light of these arguments because he's already established himself as a complete ******* in the first place that expecting these comments from him are completely normal, but lowering yourself to that level by taking offense to things like "you don't know anything about either game" and especially taking them at face value really says a lot more about yourself than do your attempts to defend yourself.

Now let's all move on from this brain-cancer debate and direct our energies towards a positive direction of ENDLESS CHALLENGE!!!!!!

I do wear my heart on my sleeve, I've admitted that before.
That's why I never joined a debate team.

Oh well, there has to be people in the world that are like that. To expect otherwise is unrealistic.

No, I just used the wrong term, I should have said "learning curve".
But that statement specifically IS true.
Sakurai made Brawl with casual gamers in mind. That's why he removed things as simple as dash dancing and L-cancel. He didn't want the game to be deep, and he himself would prolly even tell you that.
It's funny that this entire thing could have been settled forever ago if you had just used the right term. Brawl might have a shallower learning curve, but that has nothing to do with depth. And the rest of your post reeks of "I still want to save face and imply that the game is shallow."

yes, lets discuss endless challenge.
Where do yall think we should get pizza from?

And are the rest of you sometimes unable to access smashboards? I sometimes get either a page saying its under maintenance, or "bad gateway". Andrew told me he's experienced this.

Anyway, my plan is that we will have one more meeting for the semester after this Saturday. It will be on May 8th, WEL 1.316 noon-midnight (though still awaiting room confirmation). Prices will be similar to Endless Challenge: $5 venue fee, $10 singles entry fee, $20 (or $10) per team doubles entry fee. However, it will feature Melee singles and doubles as well as Brawl singles and doubles.

Here's what I was thinking for the schedule:
12noon - doors open/registration begins
2pm - Melee doubles
3pm - Brawl doubles
4pm - Melee singles
6pm - Pizza
7pm - Brawl singles
Afterwards until midnight - side events/friendlies

Payouts will be similar as Endless Challenge and we'll use standard rulesets.

Is this agreeable to everyone?

Kal, please start working on the thread. As for the title of this tournament...anybody have suggestions?

I'm gone from the boards for two days... and I miss Kal and Rohan arguing, Matt talking about smashturbating (which probably has something to do w/ his controller), and talk about the weather?! GAY!

I'll post the next meeting then. I will be in Canada though, trying to find Kage, so I can redeem myself for losing to him in that crew battle =P

GUYS!

Smashturbating is isolating yourself in your room and then practicing tech skill. Or so I heard from some source I can't recall.

Clay, we should avoid insulting the Brawl players who show up by waiting until 7-****ing-PM to start singles. >_>

I think we should host just one game, really. If we host a second game, keep it a side-event, so it gets less priority.

I think trying to have an event at a large scale like we're doing for Endless Challenge will ultimately fail if we don't attract the same amount and caliber of players again. Many people (myself included) won't be interested in entering a large-pot tournament when there isn't much confirmation of many players attending.

What I'm trying to say is: if we can't make this tournament as large as Endless Challenge is going to be, then we should avoid trying to have another large tournament. If we can get all of Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, etc. to come for a second round at UT, then sure it sounds like a great idea. But if we can't get them to come for round 2 then I think we should throw the idea out and have a normal smash club meeting like we have been.

i guarantee you that you dont wanna mix the games.

I suggest going brawl dubs->brawl singles can start during the gf of brawl dubs->depending on who entered melee, you can start that when tvs are available/entrants are done with brawl.

no one wants to sit around/play friendlies for 7 hrs before singles begins.

you may want to close melee registration during brawl singles.

Should we have a smashfest tomorrow at my place or Edgar's? I'd prefer it at Edgar's because I want to go out tomorrow night, but if there's a ton of demand for a smash fest at my place I don't mind.

Also, ARC should pick up Jamal, since they live close to each other I think.

Actually I like the idea of running tournaments concurrently because then neither Melee nor Brawl players will be waiting around.

How about this for the schedule?

12noon - doors open/registration begins
1pm - Brawl doubles
1:10pm - Melee doubles
4pm - Brawl singles
4:10pm - Melee singles
6pm - Pizza
Afterwards - side events/friendlies

Yes, it is more work to run all these events but why not end '09-'10 Smash Club with a bang? This could be a huge event. As long as Endless Challenge is a success (or an enormous success), we shouldn't have a problem getting most of the Melee players that came to come back, and I already know that people from the Austin and San Antonio Brawl scene (+ my brother lol) are interested in coming. I say let's get the thread up and build teh hype!!!!11

Yeah, Endless Challenge is shaping up to be pretty awesome, as long as Kal's ruleset doesn't ruin the tournament =P

Also, do you think we should pick up some power strips and/or extension cables in case we have more TVs than can fit on the first row of the room?

Brief plan for tomorrow: Rohan, Juan, and I will arrive at Welch at 11am with most of our 8 TVs. We'll need some people to be there at that time to help unload and start setting up.
