As Matt suggested, I wasn't saying we would not have a big Brawl tournament, advertised in it's own thread, in May. In fact, I think this is a good idea. But that still leaves the question of what tournament(s) to hold this Saturday. You're probably right about a Brawl singles tourney having low turnout. I propose we make it a side event with a $1 entry fee. But what should be the main event?

And even if you have already put out flyers, replacing those flyers isn't exactly taxing our limited resources.
It is true that, if we had to, we could go around with a marker and make some alterations to the flyers.

With regards to the ticketing procedure, that's never really been an issue. Why are you bringing this up? It's going to be much more troublesome enforcing a $1 venue fee and looking like a **** asking people to leave who don't have $1 or who don't want to pay.
The ticketing procedure for collecting entry fees has been kind of a hassle for me since I have to guess how much cash prizes will need to be given out, withdraw all that cash, and get Juan to write me a reimbursement check afterwards. It works but it's a bunch of extra steps in comparison to simply collecting entry fees and distributing money directly from the pot as prizes.

I think most people can and are willing to spare $1. But if somebody truly does not have a single dollar, then I would not mind lending them one. The only trouble, then, in enforcing the venue fee is we would have to stay by the door for part of the meeting or watch for people coming in and ask them for the small fee, explaining to them why we require it.

And the cost of the meeting does not need to be paid for at this meeting. We'll have other meetings.
True, but I would prefer not to get further in debt. This small venue fee is an opportunity to at least break even after this meeting. And, I think it's fair to have everybody that attends this meeting to pitch in towards the cost of this meeting.

Can we please just try out this $1 venue fee? Believe me, I would prefer not to do it, but we need funds and this seems like the most fair and logical way to acquire them. If we find that the costs of this procedure outweigh the benefits, we will not do it again.

First of all, as an aside: set the number of posts displayed per page to the maximum (I believe it's 40) in your user CP. Page 82, lawl.
lol thx for the tip. Should've just given you the post number.

does there really have to even be some big main event? just decide on some random small event there and leave it at that.

No, we don't have to have a main event, i.e. a tournament with a $5 entry fee that is specifically advertised in flyers/email. Maybe it is best to simply decide on what events to do and their entry fees at the meeting. But sometimes advertising a main event can draw a better turnout and provide more competitive tourneys.

The first post says 4-11pm. I think having a second tournament for brawl would be a great idea. As for the $1 entry fee, it's just fair since it will be used to cover the meeting's fixed costs.

I haven't read everything so maybe I'm misinformed, but maybe it would be a good idea to lower the entry fee for this weekend's brawl tournament. Not only will that be a pleasant surprise to the people showing up, but it will also give them an incentive to coming back for the grand finale May event or w/e you guys are planning.

It is 4-11pm.

@Bored
Yes, I think the Brawl singles tourney on Saturday will just have a $1 entry fee. We'll mention to everybody that we will have another larger Brawl tourney in May (and we'll advertise Endless Challenge).

Let's decide on the date for this big Brawl tourney...do you Austin Brawlers prefer May 1 or May 8? Keep in mind that May 8 is the Saturday before finals week.

I just found out I can advertise club meetings on the university calendar: http://www.utexas.edu/know/events/20100403/e10622. B)

Suggestions for the name of our May Brawl tourney? I thought of "Welch's **** Juice" today but maybe we want something less silly heh.

We can do both since it's a dual projector!

@Mitchell
Yes, what we'll probly do is have 3 melee setups, 3 brawl setups, and 1 setup for either brawl+/brawl- or melee/brawl friendlies when a melee/brawl tournament is going on.

To recap, the events we're doing and their entry fees will be decided by a vote at the meeting. We will most likely do a Brawl singles tournament with a $1 entry fee starting around 5pm.

There is a $1 admission fee that will only be waived if you bring a TV. If you only bring a console, the fee won't be waived but you will get a firm pat on the back. :)

Who all would be interested in buying a Smash Club T-shirt? I'm getting a quote from some custom T-shirt company. Anybody have ideas on the design? Name and logo on the front seems obvious but what should go on the back?

I should bring it then. It's basically the same game, but the graphics and frame rate are much improved. In particular, they've redone all of the textures and the game now displays in HD. The controls are also better in my opinion.

It's pretty ****ing awesome.

yeah we should rohan :)
also someone should get the latest version of brawl- cuz that game is awesome lol
lol, I didn't think you'd follow through.
Great job, but I prolly need to try harder next time. I was fool enough to try a Marth ditto against you, I should stick to my best characters.
Well, its actually kinda amusing. The last Melee tournament I entered I faced Edgar, and did a Marth ditto the first game, in which I got *****. The second game I switched to Link and took Edgar down to one stock. The same thing happened against you in our set cept I used Link first. Marth is the better character in both games, but Link simply fits my play style better.
Oh well, at least I beat you a few times after that, haha. As awesome as it is being able to take two stocks off you in a Melee match, being able to beat you is more fun.

Okay, what the hell guys? Who not only overwrote my memory card with a bad save, but didn't bother fixing it? Am I gonna have to start putting my memory cards on a leash?

Also, Matt, I have a black one and a white one. They're pretty good condition, and they're of opposite temperament/sensitivity, methinks. So you might like one of them. You can borrow one if you weren't the one whole ruined my save and/or stole my black memory card.

It's really easy to copy a save from an SD card to a GCN memory card using homebrew.

Dear Edgar,

It is to my regret to inform you that I am not the culprit for the sabotage of your memory card. As much as I wish I could have become a part in solving the mystery behind said sabotage, I am unable to contribute anything. However, I am very willing to look into your GCN controllers that you have at your disposal. But first, I will take Justin's offer first as his offer strikes at the most convenience, noting that he lives on the same floor as me in Jester. If his offer does not manage to meet my standards, then I shall contact you again. For now, I bid you farewell.

Regards,
Matt

Was it a grey one? I did bring it over to a GC where Carl and Sharif were playing...should we bring them in for questioning? :p

I'm only using my new white controller now so you could use my old platinum one, which works just fine despite some wear on the C-stick.
