I don't take criticism well, that should be obvious by now.
It's in my genes, my dad and grandfather are even worse than me.

*edit*
and I think if you actually said that to me in person I'd have heard your TONE OF VOICE and realized you're kidding.
I think you need to lighten up. Also, genes are no excuse (as if you're ever certain such a thing is genetic rather than a result of your environment).

Am I missing an epic pissing contest?
Why do you even post here?

Seems like I might not be able to play tomorrow, esp. if we're playing 5 pm. I would only be able to play like 1 hour :dizzy:
That's ok, we'll have more opportunities over the break. AustinRC wants to get something going, so you guys can see me lose for once. =P

Well it's not like this is just something I made up on the whim to use as an argument, this is through many years of observation.
And seeing as that my grandfather, my dad and I were all raised in different environments and ended up with the same problem, I think thats fairly strong evidence.

Anyways, there's no point debating this any further...

Bro, you can't just respond, then end with "there's no point in debating this further." It's called a cop out.

Anyway, it's pretty clear that, by "environment" I didn't mean something like location. I meant more like the fact that your father had a father who took criticism poorly, so he developed such a mindset, and you have a father who took criticism poorly, so you took such a mindset. I mean, neither of us have evidence either way, but don't take something as silly as "well my dad and grandfather have it" as a real indicator of a genetic disposition.

Anyways, there's no point debating this any further...

It seems like Rohan will do anything to have the final word.

But I DON'T have all that, I decided that shortly after Brawl came out. Brawl showed me that you shouldn't have to work that hard to have fun with Smash, but I then eventually decided it wasn't fun enough, and that's when B+ came out, which turned out to be the ideal game for me. With Brawl/+ I can just read about a technique online and figure it out in 5 mins (except IC stuff). I like being able to do THAT.
Video games are just fun to me. Sure competition is fun, but I don't wanna have to devote myself that much to just have fun.
To make an analogy, I know basketball like the back of my hand, but there's no way I have the discipline to actually get good at it.
You should not look at investing a little effort towards improving your game as hard work. It is really rewarding and fun to try new techniques/tactics and learn to use them effectively.

I wonder if you do just play video games for fun when you seem to be so concerned with the outcomes of matches. Who cares if you win or lose an individual match? What is important is long-term improvement, experimenting, and having fun.

I think the reason you like Brawl+ is because you can do pretty well by just mashing buttons (it's not so much a game of finesse like Melee) and nobody plays it as regularly as you so you kinda have an unfair advantage. I have a feeling if many people started playing Brawl+ and cared to get good at it, you would start to like Brawl+ less because you would suddenly have some real competition. Point is, you should not give up on Brawl or Melee just because many people are more experienced/skilled at those games than you, that's a cop out. At one point they too kinda sucked, but that didn't stop them from trying to get better and succeeding. There is no reason you shouldn't also be able to rise through the ranks as long as you invest some effort and don't always take the competition so seriously. As a byproduct, you will improve if you just have fun with it!

I think this thread is giving EVERYONE brain cancer...
Seriously, we need to have calm, productive discussions as opposed to heated, pointless arguments. The kind of environment we should strive for in this thread is one in which people:
-feel free to give their opinions
-respectfully and politely explain why they disagree when they have a different opinion
-don't take it personally when somebody disagrees with them
-carefully read and understand what others are saying and are willing to concede that their points have validity (i.e. do not presume to always be right)
And, as long as it isn't intended to offend anyone, there's always room for some humor!

The purpose of this thread is to unite, not divide, Austin smashers!

It's not so much that as losing and seeing my opponent gloat about it...

If that were true I wouldn't like Smash 64. But it DOES require some finesse.

By all means, BRING ON the real competition!

Point is, you should not give up on Brawl or Melee just because many people are more experienced/skilled at those games than you, that's a cop out.
Whenever did I say that's the reason? I don't play Melee cuz it requires too much effort, and I don't like Brawl anymore cuz of all the gay qualities. I don't care if people are more experienced/skilled, that's ALWAYS gonna be there. For example, when we played B+ for like 4 straight hours over thanksgiving, and I started getting frustrated as you started beating me more consistently, it wasn't because of that, it was issues with stamina, which you obviously don't have, and one of the primary reasons I don't play Melee.
I'm conditioned to maybe playing a couple matches in a row then letting someone else have a turn, not continuous play.

Too bad I still "kinda suck" haha

But yeah, it's about having fun. Of course, I won't play Brawl tourney-wise, but I'd still be up to play a bit if it's just for fun. I'm just glad I can play some Smash w/ actual people instead of Lvl. 9 people, or my crappy roommate

On a sidenote: I three stocked my roommate's ganon w/ my pichu. He's not bad though haha, just doesn't know any real advanced techs.

And while we're not on a crunch to make up events for tourneys, we can brainstorm for future meetings. Maybe a REAL low tier tourney next time? Not one that has Captain Falcon in grand finals lol

Yeah, that was a bad idea. I'll use Falco next time.

:p

Hey, I was thinking: what makes HMW's vids so popular? Of course the skill and renown of the players involved in the matches he records have a lot to do with it, but I think the commentary really adds a lot, humanizes the matches more and adds teh hype. Do you guys think we should start doing commentary for the matches we record? I think Kal and Edgar would make great commentators, just throwin that out there.

commentary would add some laughs into the match. we can all take turns doing that but Kal would easily be the most energetic i'd think. i wouldnt mind giving a crack at that.

Yeah, I'd embarrass everyone here. Rohan would be like "good thing there's no Metaknight in Melee or I'd have something to complain about" and I'd be like "HOLY **** LOOK AT THAT TERRIBLE FALCO IT MUST BE JESUS FREAK! Wait, that's Edgar's Falco?"

Actually, I'd probably just make fun of the players 99% of the time. My commentary would suck because no one would root for anybody.

Last time I checked, that happens a lot haha.
As long as you have some good insight on matchups and stage selection (while not sounding monotone), it wouldn't be too bad.

Does anybody have a good computer mic they would be willing to let the club borrow for recording commentary? We could use rock band USB mic.
And everybody thank Rohan for how he will let the club borrow his new laptop for recording once he gets it for xmas. :p

Practice during the break guys cuz next semester smash club will be back in full force! Without football games to worry about, we will probably meet consistently in the same room at the same time every other weekend, e.g. 3-10pm on Saturdays in WEL 1.308. We'll be more organized, do more major events which will be planned and advertised further in advance (next one will probably be the second meeting of the semester), we'll record matches at every meeting and not just melee, and we will have a consistent turnout of people that live for smash! Fun overload is inevitable.

I've decided to quit smash for PP running Bayonetta on Non-stop Infinite Climax mode. Sorry everyone. Blame Edgar; if he sucked less, I might not have quit.
