I think our next major event with entry fees/prizes should be the first meeting of next semester, probably Brawl singles. We could use some of the leftover prizes we have for 2nd and 3rd and get a $50 gift card for 1st place. This will give us time to do a good job of advertising it.

But as for the next meeting, I say we should do, in addition to friendlies of course, 3 informal events: brawl crew battle, smash 64 singles tourney, and melee singles tourney. This is as long as people at the meeting are interested in all these and we don't run out of time. An event for each (non-hacked) smash game ftw!
no major event once we get back. shouldnt be rushed and with the break, give some time to recuperate i guess. shouldnt be until at least the second meeting. that will give us even more time to plan this out. but clay dont overdo it; we dont wanna exhaust the money. also, we just did a melee tournament. how about no event related to melee, just friendlies. it was ur idea to rotate out between melee and brawl. a mini event to brawl or even smash 64 should suffice. get some smash 64 vids recorded in this. and really, u got way more than enough melee vids on youtube. record other stuff p0x lol. we dont wanna give the impression that all we do is play melee.

Josh probly can't make that but it looks like that championship doesn't start until 7pm on Dec. 5th, so we could have the meeting like 2-8pm on that day and it wouldn't conflict much.
How about 1-7pm?
or we can just do this at 2. so it conflicts with the game a bit. so? for those who wanna watch it, they can.

Guys, if the meeting is Dec. 5, I probably won't go. I've got plans.

I really doubt I'll make it on the 5th. Phase 4 in dallas is that weekend.

Actually, Kal was so depressed that his normal target for racist remarks was gone that he didn't even enter the tournament in protest. So sad.

So some people can't make it on the 5th...maybe we should have the meeting on sunday the 6th, 2-8pm? Also, on second thought, 3 events would be excessive so let's plan for 2 which will be voted on at the meeting (the options will be brawl singles/crews, smash 64 singles, or melee singles/doubles).

We can have 3 events, since I don't expect a lot of people to enter 64 anyway. If you want, I can run Brawl and Melee and someone else can run 64.

Not sure about Sunday being a good choice. On one hand, it's certainly expected to be free for more people. On the other, no one shows up to **** on Sunday.

did u not consider what i said? there shouldn't even be a melee option to vote on. should be something else other than melee.

Sunday? No one wants to do much on Sunday.
And Melee events won't get in the way... what else would we hold anyway?
A lot of people like Melee, so why not give the people what they want? We can still have Brawl(+) events also

Speaking of which, I still want Brawl + crew battle.
Not necessarily next meeting, but as a side event at some future meeting.
I seriously doubt it'll ever get to the point where we can have a singles tourney.
Diddy mains in particular don't seem to do that great at Brawl + (cept NinjaLink who's good with every character), which is great in my books cuz I hate Diddy's guts.

we just did a melee tournament last time so why do another event involving melee this meeting? it was ur idea to rotate b/t each meeting
To rotate the main event, yes. But a Melee side-event isn't going to get in the way, and considering there is a set of people who consistently show up for Melee, it seems silly to deny them a tournament.

We can have this at the next meeting if you want. It doesn't really matter how many people enter if the event is free. My biggest problem with the club right now is that people are afraid to enter events, even if they're free. I appreciate (though don't agree with) the idea of not entering a tournament because you'd probably lose your money. But to not enter a free event because you "suck" is just silly.

Anyway, my point is that you shouldn't feel like we need to have a certain fan-base of the game before we have an event for it. I don't think it's an issue if we have a Barlw+ side-event some time, just for shiggles.

Also, if you think we can't do singles due to lack of entrants, then crews will be impossible. Singles will probably be fine anyway.

Let's officially say the next meeting will be Saturday Dec. 5th, 2-8pm since most people prefer this. Can you make it to this Kal? If not, we'll make do somehow... My brother and Hylian won't be able to come due to Phase 4 but, oh well, they can come to a meeting next semester.

We should generally try to do different events from meeting to meeting to mix things up. We haven't done brawl singles/crews in a while and have never done smash 64 singles, melee doubles, or brawl+ singles so these should be the main events we vote on at the meeting. However, there's no reason for us to not hold an event if there's high demand for it and especially if it wouldn't be difficult to run. So we will certainly do melee singles again if several people clamor for it.
Crew battles are not quite as easy to run as tourneys and require more entrants so we should really be certain that many people are interested before we decide to hold one. We do need to hold a crew battle once in a while though.

and really, u got way more than enough melee vids on youtube. record other stuff p0x lol. we dont wanna give the impression that all we do is play melee.
Yes, we don't want to give the impression that we greatly prefer one smash game over the others. I will try to record some smash 64, brawl+, and brawl matches. But you have to admit that melee matches are highly exciting to watch!

I totally agree. One should enter most events because if you don't ever try anything new or challenge yourself you'll likely miss out on a lot of fun, you won't discover new passions or techniques, and you won't possibly improve or get to a point where you no longer "suck."

As a side note, I brought back another small TV that was laying around the house so we should be able to consistently bring 6 TVs to each meeting! This means we can more easily accomodate my smash 64 setup! It may also mean we have a greater need for wiis and GCs, so plz bring setups!

I don't think most people would try out Smash 64. Every time they held the event last year, only a few people entered, and a lot of people stopped playing after a few rounds. I don't mind having smash 64 there, though. Also, it's out on VC now, and the hacked version has been out for a while, so you can play it on the Wii with a Gamecube controller (the controls are still, sadly, quite awkward).

Some people have expressed interest in Smash 64 so we will set aside a TV for it at least for part of the meeting. That would be interesting to get Smash 64 for VC and play with a GC controller, but I may not bother since I can play it online with an emulator and a USB-N64 controller converter.

And screw it, I'm coming.
Yay, you can fill in for Edgar as the second/third best melee player there. :)

ATTN: Room for the meeting this saturday has changed to JGB 2.324!

Why not the shoulder buttons for shield?Like Melee, but no WD?
It's more to do with the amount of pressure required to push the button down, compared to the N64 controller or my controller.
In 64 Z-canceling completely cancels all aerial lag, which means a good mindgame tactic is to do random aerials and Z-cancel them with no risk, while in Melee its a risk cuz I believe it only cancels 50%. This actually makes Link's dair spammable. It's easier to do this in quick succession with a button that requires less pressure, and remember I said earlier that I have weak-***** fingers.

Rohan should bring Metroid Prime Trilogy for wii and we can have a Metroid Prime 2 multiplayer tourney! That game is SO awesome, I like how you can easily run away with the morph ball, replenish your energy, and get broken power ups.

But seriously, if both players play the game like they actually wanna win, i.e. be as cheap as possible, either nobody will ever die or the outcome will be completely random.

Anyway, I can't wait for Smash 64 singles and Melee doubles this saturday! I think these (ok and perhaps the Brawl event) will provide an adequately awesome end to Smash Club Fall '09.

It's okay as long as you DON'T use the morph ball. But yeah, the power-ups are broken, and the number of times you can replenish your energy.
It'd be better if they didn't have so many health replenish things or beam upgrades, and maybe if they made the morph ball slower. But admit at least the controls are more fun than the gamecube version.
:p
Oh well, at least the single player rocks.
