I don't think there is a thing as Western picks but I would argue that Japanese ones are more likely due to the fact that, these are companies that have long-standing relationships with Nintendo and Sakurai so negotiations are easier especially since they also share same work culture and language. I don't think a character from a Western company is impossible, but at the same time is something that is not guaranteed.Banjo wouldn't get in as a Western rep, he'd get in to fulfill fan desires and/or make closer ties with Microsoft. The only reason why people bring up the whole Western and Japanese thing is because people act like Western characters are impossible, with some people even acting like Sakurai is very prejudiced when it should be fairly apparent that isn't the case based on the Shovel Knight AT, him listening to Western fans, him bothering to come over to the West anyway and letting a translator help him, and him liking Western games including Minecraft.
I can say the same for
As one of the people who believes it will only be Japanese 3rd parties, I can firmly say it’s got nothing to do with prejudice. Picking Shovel Knight as an Assist Trophy is quite different than making him a playable character.Banjo wouldn't get in as a Western rep, he'd get in to fulfill fan desires and/or make closer ties with Microsoft. My first thought was that this show looks like a rip-off of Lost, based purely on first impressions of the poster.Well, happy 4400 mates!

Super Smash Bros. 5: The RoyaleI can say the same for.
He usually acts royal and pompous in his animations,

I use Stage Builder for one thing. So what ideas do y’all have for stage builder? Looks like we have much more control over it now than ever before.
I’m real interested about that teleport mechanic in stagebuilder, I don’t thing we’ve had stages with portals before. Seems like it could lead to some fun gameplay shenanigans. I wonder if any of the other DLC stages will utilize these new portals?
I can’t wait for Sakurai to say **** and throw the forums into chaoswe now have to spoiler warn links to his twitter with "no-no words"
I agree. "Reps" don't really exist in that sense anyway. Sakurai will represent a franchise if it has done something significant or is popular. Being from the West means nothing.Banjo wouldn't get in as a Western rep
There's also precedent for Nintendo doing Smash reveals at EVO with the announcement of the August Direct last year, so it's pretty likely.Remember kids, if you want to know when we'll see the next DLC fighter then we have E3 around the corner, and we also have EVO just two months after it. These two events are very likely to have fighter reveals. After those two we have two DLC slots left, one will be revealed on an October direct, and the final one will be revealed on a December/January direct. This is how I imagine the reveal schedule will look like, seems spread out quite well.
Still though, that hasn’t stopped the numerous times in recent history where Nintendo has licensed out its properties to Western devs (Mario + Rabbids, Starlink, Minecraft Mario Mash-up Pack, Cadence of Hyrule, ect.) so, what exactly makes the reverse more difficult? As one of the people who believes it will only be Japanese 3rd parties, I can firmly say it’s got nothing to do with prejudice. Picking Shovel Knight as an Assist Trophy is quite different than making him a playable character.
For the playable character, communication would involved boarding flights, which costs money, as opposed to driving to Capcom, Namco, or Atlus and going over materials. It’s not impossible for a western character to get into Smash. But so far there hasn’t been a western 3rd party, and the obligations that would come with it make it much more difficult to carry out as efficiently as Japanese 3rd parties.
Hello. It's me Reggie. If by some ****ed up, strange way Reggie leaks Smash I'll explode.
sorry pardner, slepting is illegal in these here parts*leans in from shadows*
Shh. I'm trying to slept.

This is true. But it's why Microsoft can really be the only Western developer in the running. As one of the people who believes it will only be Japanese 3rd parties, I can firmly say it’s got nothing to do with prejudice. Right now, it just depends on how the levers work.So what ideas do y’all have for stage builder? Looks like we have much more control over it now than ever before.

Look, I don't keep up with social media. lolTook you a while.
One silly thing that I thought about doing with levers, assuring that they exist and they work how I think they’d work, is attach the entire stage to a horizontal track and have a lever in the middle that reverses its movement. If the players aren’t careful while fighting and they forget to press the lever often enough to keep the stage in the middle, it will eventually leave the screen and thus kill everyone.Right now, it just depends on how the levers work.
It would be neat to have a switch in the middle of the stage that moves a large foreground circle between the ledges.
Also battlefield that rotates.
I think it makes sense that a Microsoft character will make it as DLC but there's no guarantee it will be Banjo. In fact, Minecraft sort of makes more sense since that was the first game in Nintendo and Microsoft's crossplay partnership. Not to mention there are more people out there who know and love Minecraft than long time Nintendo fans who love Banjo. In the case of Banjo, Nintendo wins favor from longtime Nintendo fans (which is especially important if none of these DLC picks otherwise cater to them) and Microsoft wins favor by playing nice and giving the character to someone who's known for doing fantastic with representing source material, presumably while at the same time releasing their Xbox app on Switch and making Rare Replay available through it.
If it happened, it'd make sense why it did.
