Literally replace Erdrick with any of Ultimate's newcomers (Or even Smash 4's and some of Brawl's and Melee's) and the argument is just as valid.

As a Shadow fan, Richter (and especially Ken when he was leaked) was actually seen as a POSITIVE for Shadow....

Because it meant obvious 3rd Party Echoes were plausible.
