I know all of that.
I own the game.

The one I don’t own is 2.
Ah, my b. Though, I will say, be sure to pace yourself good and know what objectives you wanna take when tackling Xenoblade 2, however. I probably spent January 2018 - September 2018 completing almost 100% and including the Torna expansion, so unless you got a huge open schedule, then be wary of that. At least, that's how I dealt with it.

If you just say "Today's the day they're going to announce a direct!" everyday then inevitably you'll be right.

Fair enough then.

I’ll prepare myself for 2 the moment I finish 1 or so.

I woke up to the Official Layton Series twitter educating me and throwing a riddle at me on the word Heterological asking is Heterological describes itself.

I looked up definitions and I never thought so hard in my life
If yes, then by definition it’s autological, so then it doesn’t describe itself. But if no, then “heterological” is heterological, therefore it actually does describe itself, which means it’s autological

There's a difference between innate purity and resetting the memory every death, especially when you factor in the technical slavery and/or romantic relationships.
No yeah I agree with you dont get me wrong

You know, on all this talk about OSTs, you know what game didn't have a great OST?

Shadow of the
WHOA HOLD ON NOW

Tomb Raider.
Oh okay.

For context, Shadow of the Colossus is a PS2 game with one of the most competently composed video scores ever that emphasizes your fight against mongoloid creatures several stories taller than you.

Still waiting for the 1st Fighter's Pass Character for anohter couple of weeks has me like:

So uh weird dreams huh? Well I had ones where It was just me opening a jar of Pickles. Of course I remember having a few involving Erdrick being revealed.
I remember a dream I had once where I was watching MatPat live stream a new chapter of Bendy and the Ink Machine. It was set in some sort of locker room and the monster was this weird buff swamp-thing looking ink monster. If it saw you it would beeline at you. Then I was IN the game, but I could still hear MatPat’s commentary, and it saw me but when it got to me it just started singing instead of killing me. And I tried to walk around it but I couldn’t like there was some sort of invisible wall.

Anyway, that leaves Persona 5 M and Persona 5 B for trademarked Persona 5 titles that haven't been announced yet- on top of the oft rumored "Persona 5 Ultimax" fighting game developed by Arc Sys.
Persona 5 Mariachi and Persona 5 Bondage, Coming soon!

You're absolutely right. Breaks are good. I found that with Brawl, SFIV, SFV, Gears, etc.

But this wasn't a bad night. This was a demonstration of an extreme difference in skill, knowledge and adaptation with a group who, the week this game came out, was only moderately better than I was. I've been playing every night online for a month and a half in an attempt to make up for lost time and honestly felt as though I had progressed enough to be somewhat competitive, but then it turned into five hours of me failing to win once.

I didn't feel off; I felt bad. I was read like a book and had no counter to anything. I failed to register a single KO in my first four three stock matches. We rotated among the four of us and when anybody got to me, they switched to a secondary or just "let's try someone new". They didn't mean it as an insult, but my pride was slowly chiseled away through the night when I'd consistently get two-stocked with my main against a character they "haven't played in forever", then watch them take things seriously and switch back to their mains when playing anyone else.

Normally I try to gather negatives together and learn to improve on them, but I don't know what to isolate and improve upon because I failed at everything. All night. My neutral was bad. My offstage was bad. My advantage was bad when I actually had it. My combos that worked online didn't work against them either due to a lack of latency or due to superior knowledge of DI. No matter what way I came back to the stage I couldn't get back on the stage. I didn't know how to approach, I barely knew how to defend. Every time it came to my turn to play I was ****ing petrified.

I've never felt that way in a Smash game and it really ****ing hurt my pride if I'm going to be blatantly honest. It's why I'm having this crisis of "do I want to take this seriously" right now.

I need to change mains. I need to play more. I need to lab more. I need to find something to feel good about because this game isn't fun for me at the moment.
The feeling of overwhelming pessimism is mutual. Been through the "I literally can't get a game off/it feels like this person isn't even trying" process more times than I care to keep track of. Have been on both ends/watched it happen to others as well. To the point where things have gotten awkward, if not outright pathetic. Not worth debating it as just "salt," it's just downright depressing.

But while it's difficult to think, everyone has been through something similar to get to whatever skill level they are. Even top players, and even those that everything just seems to come easily to had to grind things out for longer than anyone would like. As said on some earlier pages, there's some that aren't even confident doing stuff like fighting AI. It isn't a thing to hold against them, different strokes and all that. There are some things you just can't help, specifically when it comes to enjoyment of the game. I define it as enjoying everything from going through and setting My Music to doing stupid self-challenge stuff, like win Spirit Board battles without any spirits equipped.

Improving isn't something you quantify with time spent, and it's hard to tell how much effort one is truly putting into things. For some, being just as good as characters you don't even call "secondaries" is just as important as maintaining practice with their "mains." Almost all the time I spend on Quick Play goes into getting characters I (quote/unquote) "don't play" into Elite Smash, while conversely I spend time in Arenas going only 1 or 2 different characters. Then I get mad at myself for not doing "as well as my main as I do with insert Elite Smash character" when the cirumstances are completely different (beating someone that was sandbagging because I played Little Mac vs not being able to beat someone's self-proclaimed 30th best character with the one I have the most time on). Dedicating to something is what that life is all about. And no one can blame you for whatever you decide to do (sometimes you really do need another character, other times you just need to get beat down 1,000 times to learn how to pick at someone else's habits vs not let your habits get picked at).

I could go on a great length about this but I'm just about getting ready to be leaving work. If you ever feel the need to talk about it or want to play or anything, hit me up. I hate seeing people think of playing something they really love as not fun. Pride aside, finding yourself coming back to this game/series because you love it is the only reason I've been here as long as I have. And whether that entails arguing about what character is getting in the next speculation period, or actually playing the video game, I enjoy discussing Smash with peeps here.

Man I still need to 100% Torna

It's just so boring grinding Anise for SP over and over, especially considering I can already blow through that fight with ease. Filling the hidden Driver Affinity Charts is the only thing I have left to do

This is good, probably what I'd have done (except I'd have not given echo fighters their own stages but that's just me)
My reasoning with the echoes was this, basically:
- For Dark Pit/Dark Samus/Daisy, there were already Uprising/Metroid Prime/Mario Spin-Off stages in Ultimate, so I figured it'd make sense to add them here.
- Ken already has a stage preset for him like Ryu did with Suzaku Castle, so Battle Harbor just made sense to add. Plus H A R B O R A E S T H E T I C
- Lucina lived two thousand years after Marth did, and from the transition from Archanea to Ylisse, there are very few if any places that'd make sense for both of them.
- Roy and Chrom don't even live in the same universe, never mind time period, so Chrom getting an Elibean stage wouldn't make sense either.
- I just really like Castlevania's aesthetic and always wanted an actual clock tower stage that isn't just a falling clock face lol. Give me cogs and ****.

If Alph gets a stage, the Koopalings ought to get one too.
I didn't want to give a stage to each of them lol. If I could combine them all in one stage, I'd definitely go for Airship Fortress.

Frankly mate, I dont appreciate the effort as a lot of this stuff is riddled with bad arguments, bad info and poor examples.

-Jack Frost wasn't the character that was considered by the dataminers, there was another Jack being considered. Jack The Ripper from MGS aka Raiden. Jack Frost only relation to Jack so far is that he is rumored to be part of Joker's moveset.

-If you wanted to use arguments for other characters that can be considered brave, why the hell did you moved from a Bravely default character to ****ing Geno or Sans. The examples you gave with them are ****ing stretches.

-You're giving your own interpretation to info from Tansut. He only said he will not be revealed soon back on December, dunno how long is not soon by Tansut standards.

-You're comparing characters from different companies when explaining why its impossible for Erdrick to have alts by your logic since Pac-Man has one character, one stage, two songs and four spirits. Pac-man apart from the 3 songs he has, there are a lot of Namco music tracks included from classic Namco series in addition to his like Mappy and Galaga. Pac-man also had a 2nd stage that was removed for implementation issues. Both Bayo and Cloud have alts so that doesn't make Erdrick unlikely to have them.

-Leaker-wise you're making your own suppositions facts. Tansut reliability comes from apparently having actual ties with SE as he predicted Cloud, gave the release date of Cloud and also called the Grinch leak a hoax. While his prediction is not guaranteed and you can have doubts about it, rejecting it 100% is premature given that we don't have any reasons to doubt when his track record is going well.

-Can you show me the ballot results that show what is appealing? Probably not, and the only way to go is by the online polls which are frankly unreliable as hell given Sakurai comments regarding how votes were taken and the positioning of characters. Since the reveal of K. Rool, there seems to be a sentiment from the fanbase that the polls are 100% correct. Plus Erdrick is only expected since the leaks.

-One stage is the common from third parties and DLC. The summons from Midgar are still there, and there are no Mii costumes from third parties. Do your research well or don't do it.

-You know very well that pretty much the rest of your argument is pretty much how Geno fits the stats and that how everything is supposed to be an indication that Geno is coming when you should be focusing in the possibility of the character to not be a Erdrick as you're just making a theory based on stretches and references that most likely were planned? (plus I could make an argument that the only reason why there's Geno and Mallow spirits is because they came with Cloud) Also, it doesn't take into consideration that a lot of stats are changed and don't necessarily reflect the characters 100%. Mewtwo is supposed to be heavy in the Pokemon games but here it's quite light, plus Piranha Plant stats were changed from the discovery of its files to release from being the 2nd slowest character to medium speed and that it became heavyweight just when it was released.

-If you're assuming this info was leakbait, wouldn't that make Geno's info a leakbait? This argument is again reaching, plus nobody would have seen Erdrick coming if not for the leakers. Pretty much this just becomes a conspiracy theory, it's even sillier since you end up giving up on this immediately afterwards which makes it pointless.

Finally, I'm leaning on Erdrick as very likely just like pretty much every other Erdrick fan. I doubt most of the fans are putting the 100% on him, and frankly your argument would have been better if it wasn't co-written by a pretty much biased Genofan and you actually done your research or your writing wasn't this poor. Seriously this made me facepalm a couple of times.
Why the **** not let's do this because I have nothing better to do
You mention you think armour doesn't make sense because he's slower than Young Link, Young Link is actually a pretty damn fast character in the context of Smash brothers. Either it's awful wording on your part or you're making no sense. 'Brave' translating to Yuusha, Erdrick's class is actually more of a deadringer than you're giving on, as Japan enjoys calling heroes the English word Brave. Not as in 'the brave hero' but as 'the brave' as evidenced by the rollcall of Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, in which the characters call themselves 'yuusha' individually but together, they refer to themselves as 'the greatest Braves in history', with Brave being in English there. While you're correct that Jack wouldn't have been correctly guessed as Joker had he not been revealed beforehand (I think we'd have had gunned for Raiden from MGS in that scenario), you forgot people used 'jack' as in the card category as a potential point as Joker does have a theme with calling cards. The reason people believe Brave is Erdrick is because realistically speaking, it's the most fitting character for the codename. You bring up some characters as examples but the ones who you bring to mind for being courageous do NOT have that so deeply woven into their identity as Erdrick's Yuusha class.
EDIT: Also the stats aren't always final as Piranha Plant's stats changed drastically since they were first found and the time Brave and Jack files were found

Leakers are completely irrelevant here as the reason we know of Brave is due to the game's files, a fact many people have been able to verify. Brave being Erdrick is speculation, not someone saying "Hey guys Erdrick is in I'm a leaker". This is important as the former is using objectivity with the files, the latter is trusting someone who could be wrong or could be right (for the record I believe leaks aren't really black-and-white). Also Geno mention number 1.

The entire 'marketing and fanservice' argument you're providing is absolute bull****, we've gotten multiple characters throughout the course of the series who are popular within specific regions and obscure in others. We've gotten a DLC character in 4 who's game is Japan only too. Plus you're heavily undermining Dragon Quest, which is ****ing phenomenonal in Japan to the point DQIII specifically, ERDRICK'S game might I add, is Japan's version of Halo 3's launch where EVERYONE wanted a piece of that. There's also the contradiction that an obscure character wouldn't surprise people who don't know the character, it's blatantly false as everyone who wouldn't know a character would go "Who the hell is this? Where are they from?" Also Geno mention number 2, which I'll actually go on about. Geno practically didn't exist in Europe, his game wouldn't be released until the Wii's virtual console and once more over a decade later with the SNES Classic, Geno is as a result, significantly more obscure and unknown than a franchise that while niche, is still released everywhere and even got games localized due to fan demand (See 3DS DQ8 only being localized at all due to Europe's strong demand convincing Square) Your argument of other characters doesn't really matter either because one can ALWAYS argue "Instead of adding the iconic character A, why not iconic character B, G, R, X, Z, T or L?" It's a nonexistent argument that REEKS of bias. Sora's inclusion here is also heavily ironic as we'll get into your next segment.

Complications. Sora is flatout owned by Disney alongside SE, and Disney is a HUGE company, with many people rightfully criticizing how much power it has, Disney characters is an important thing for the KH franchise and if people complained about no Final Fantasy characters in KHIII, how would they feel without their beloved trio of Sora, Donald and Goofy can't even be fully acknowledged? There's also the fact there's a major MISCONCEPTION here. Square isn't actually as stingy as we're letting on, but the rights for Final Fantasy content are all over the place, there's Uematsu owning music rights, meaning every song has to give extra royalties to him and there's Nomura's designs which are the same deal. Honestly that's as much of a hassle as Cloud, but Cloud has a union actor which Nintendo unfortunately chose not to include. Also ****ton of Geno mentions.

Joker. Nintendo chosing a character who's so ridiculously iconic in Japan that it would seem they're ignoring Dragon Quest is a huge surprise. Including a character from a more niche franchise is a huge surprise they've already done multiple times as DLC, as Joker also fits into that. There's also the huge misconception here with leakbait, you see, this is something found in the game's files and when word got out of the files, Nintendo panicked and removed evidence of the files in the next patch, at this point, Erdrick was already on everyone's radar. Nintendo isn't smart, they're ****ing idiots, there are COUNTLESS Nintendo games which get spoiled because people find data that Nintendo are too ****ing dumb to scrub out, Smash 4, Kirby Star Allies, etc. This idea that Nintendo is specifically trying to fool people with game files is expecting WAY too much of them, not even Netherrealm, the only studio that ACTUALLY does screw about with codenames a lot, delete evidence of files after they're found.

So Shotostar helped you with this? That's incredibly obvious as most of this 'essay' reads as "Please guys Geno might have a shot include Geno in your predictions please remember Geno" to the point of contradicting arguments. Bias is inevitable but considering I managed to write this defending the idea of Erdrick, someone who's never played Dragon Quest, someone who has no desire to play Dragon Quest, someone who's disgusted at the franchise's composer and wants them nowhere near me or the things I enjoy, you can do a lot ****ing better than this
These are some very good points! I know my essay was flawed, but I did not fail. Yet.
I just found a lot of ways that did not work. Nice to see some constructive criticism.
I read all of them thoroughly, and they were good.

I mean have you seen Ann? She looks ready for any leather could throw at her.
Originally I was going to use Ann, but I figured I was already pushing it with the ball gag.

Moving has sucked the fun outta me.

Bring me joy.
During the Berlin airlift, one american soldier was inspired by seeing Berlin kids sharing what little candy they had between each other. He decided that instead of dropping regular food, he would drop candy for the starving children who could not obtain it, eventually dropping many tons of candy and becoming a national hero to the kids of Berlin. The soldier is still alive too.

I'm not even going to kid with you. This argument is pathetic. Especially for all the hype you gave it.

Let's tear this apart.
  • Codename Brave
    • You're basically just speculating on what "Brave" could be. You fail to refute the claim that Erdrick could be Brave and claim that "Brave can be other names you guys!" In doing this, you accomplish nothing.
      • Of course we know Brave can be other names. However, the association between "Brave" and "Yuusha," the class of Erdrick/Dragon Quest Heroes, is one of the strongest connections.
      • When referring to the stats you're literally just going off of your own interpretation. There is no evidence other than your speculation. You literally use the phrase "I think." Do you think, or do you know what these stats mean? Do you even care?
      • In providing alternatives I'm surprised you failed to mention Yuri Lowell since he is the leader of "Brave Vesperia," and is the next closest codename association. Something like "Brave" being a Bravely Default character isn't out of the question, but it seems too obvious. The rest of your "parallels" are superfluous filler to prove a point you've already made.
  • Leaking
    • I can't take this section seriously between all the false information and lazy argumentation.
      • Leakers haven't really been "zigzag"-ing with Erdrick. It's been the consensus for quite some time now. Similar to Incineroar and Ken before they were revealed.
      • This is just a reminder that Tansut said "I wouldn't expect a (DQ) reveal soon" 3 months ago. That's plenty of time for them to develop Erdrick, especially since Joker's gone from not having anything to being completely playable in ~4 months.
      • You didn't even quote Tansut correctly either. Don't use quotation marks if you're not quoting a statement.
      • Did you actually just take parts of @ShotoStar's argument? Like, actually. I went over most of these points with him personally and refuted them.
        • You know that Plagiarism is illegal, right? Even if @ShotoStar gave you permission you should've mentioned the ideas came from him. This genuinely makes me disappointed.
      • Regardless, comparing Bandai Namco to Square Enix is comparing apples to oranges given that they're two completely different companies. Of course Namco's going to be more restrictive with their golden boy. It doesn't mean anything for Erdrick's inclusion.
        • False. See Gematsu, Ninka/Vaanrose, ChaosZero, NyaseNya, ShadowXOR, ESRB, Vergeben, the Ken Leak, and the Piranha Plant DLC Leak
        • Furthermore, asking the reader these questions is lazy. It's your job to convince us, not the reader's.
      • Once again, you compare apples to oranges by comparing Erdrick to Steve. Steve only ever had Vergeben and Hitagi for him. Erdrick has not just Vergeben, but also Polar, Tansut, Ryce, and a living 5chan leak among others going for him. There's a difference.
        • Also since when did Polar's source say we'd get "two fan favorites?" Polar hasn't claimed anything like that to my knowledge.
          • Also, is this an argument for Geno? Because it kinda reads like one.
            • You actually plagiarized part of @ShotoStar's argument for this section.
      • Vergeben's LoZ debacle comes down to Verge trusting a faulty source at the last second. He knew about the remake and teased it two weeks prior to the direct, only saying it wouldn't be the remake a literal day before. Leakers are people, they make mistakes.
  • Marketing and Fanservice
    • I feel like I'm back in the Square Enix thread fending off rabid Geno fans reading this. Not only have your arguments have already been refuted before you even posted, but you refute your own arguments.
      • You argue that Erdrick doesn't fit supposed selection criteria of "promotion, fanservice, ballots, joke characters, and personal choice," when it's easy to see how he'd fit 4 out of those 5
        • Promotion for Dragon Quest XI S in Japan and the Dragon Quest series as a whole in the West
        • Fanservice to long time fans of the series and people knowledgable about Dragon Quest (core JRPG fans)
        • Did you say Ballots? What do you mean? You don't mean to tell me you think Sakurai and his team actually look at fan polls, do you?
        • Given Dragon Quest's mass popularity in Japan and decent popularity in the West, it's not unreasonable to think that Dragon Quest performed better on the official Ballot than we think it did. Remember, Castlevania (and Simon) sneaked past us, and it's possible that Dragon Quest (and Erdrick) did the same
        • Sakurai himself is a fan of Dragon Quest, so I believe Erdrick would have Sakurai bias on his side as well.
      • What's even your argument? You're saying that Erdrick is unlikely because he seems likely? Did you not recognize the obvious contradiction in this?
        • Furthermore, there is no correlation between how "likely" a character is perceived to be and how likely they actually are.
      • I don't understand why you keep bringing up other characters. You're arguing why Erdrick is unlikely, not why x character is likely. By using other characters to make Erdrick seem unlikely, you really make it seem more that you just don't like Erdrick because he'd get in over your favorite.
      • >Taking marketing statements seriously
      • >Thinking that leaks make characters less unexpected in the eyes of Nintendo

        • You do realize a majority of Smash players aren't aware of leaks unless they get really big, right?
          • Especially the Japanese, whose knowledge about leaks spreads around niche communities on chan sites.
  • Complications
    • Oh boy, I love me the "stingy Square Enix" argument. If I had a dollar for every time someone on this site made that claim I'd have at least enough to buy myself a copy of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition releasing Fall 2019 for the Nintendo Switch.
      • We don't know why Cloud came with so little. For all we know it could've been that the budget for DLC characters was running low when Cloud began development (which it was) and they weren't able to get much considering how Square Enix independently contracts their artists and composers for each game (which is the opposite of stingy) and how they had to split funds between Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta, and when it came time for Ultimate, Sakurai and co. decided not to re-open negotiations considering they already had what was important, that being Cloud.
      • Again, this reads more like an argument for Geno. Between this and @ShotoStar's piece on the same topic he actually manages to come off as less biased. How do you be more biased than the guy who says he's biased in his own post?

        • Literally what? Where's your evidence for this? How do you know Geno would please more people worldwide? How do you know Nintendo is going for all picks with worldwide appeal?
        • As much as Geno fans don't want to admit it, Geno is a niche pick to appeal to the core fanbase. He appeals to very little outside of that. Erdrick would draw in a much larger casual crowd within the Japanese market, and that is not to be underestimated.
  • "You'll Never See It Coming"
    • Cliche name aside, this section accomplishes little.
      • Again, leakers make mistakes. It is a blow to Verge that he failed to predict Joker first, but everyone was predicted a Square Enix rep at The Game Awards.
      • Did you actually link to some sources? Consider me impressed. Maybe if you'd done that for the rest of your essay it'd have been better.
      • Additionally, the point about leakbait is valid. Or at least, it would be valid if so many people with different sources hadn't all heard about Erdrick. It seems you, and most people here, don't really understand how leakbait works. Leakbait is never just a blanket misinformation campaign. It is targeted towards specific groups to prevent or discredit leaked information. The Square Enix list is leakbait. Erdrick being heard by multiple people is not.
      • You do know the saying is, "save the best for last" and not the worst, right? Why would Nintendo order Sakurai and co. to insert false data into the game for dataminers to find? That's just a hassle for the developers. Furthermore, why would Brave's data be leakbait and not Jack's, who was added shortly before Brave? The idea of Brave's data being leakbait is as asinine as this argument.

You've got a lot of work to do if you want to write good speculation pieces.
For the whole "plagiarism" part, I mentioned that he was a "big" help on there, but I guess that was not enough.
