I remember the I first saw plant I was extremely confused. "Wait what is this?"

Once I saw plant would be a character, I laughed the entire rest of the trailer.

The problem with that is hype subjective and there's no way one reveal can satisfy everyone. A lot of people will place their long-term hopes into that last reveal and get unreasonably salty when reality doesn't match to their baseless fantasies.

I liked Olimar's reveal as a kid and hadn't even played a Pikmin yet at that point.

Seeing people diss his reveal makes me sad. :(

If I had to personally rank the Ultimate newcomer trailers:

1.:ultridley: was absolutely perfect
2.:ultkrool: was the funniest by far and had that epic Gangplank Galleon remix
3.:ultsimon::ultrichter: despite not being a big Castlevania fan
4.:ultpiranha: was incredible, but it lost a lot of hype since it was revealed after all the AT deconfirmations.
5.:ultken::ultincineroar: was actually a really good trailer, but not the best received due to certain circumstances
6.:ultinkling: was the obvious inclusion, so I was more excited for the fact that a new Smash was finally revealed.
7.:ultisabelle: was not good. The trailer revealed her in a way that makes sense for Animal Crossing, but for me it was underwhelming as ****.

Olimar was great to see back in Brawl. Damn shame I couldn't like Pikmin 3, though, so Pikmin representation felt a bit flat in Smash 4. Maybe if they added Louie some time down the line as an alt.

This thread moved a lot (and changed its name a trillion times) sicne the last time I was here for awhile.
Was the 'transcript leak' for the next Direct, from a supposed localization member, ever released here?

It makes for an underwhelming direct (revealed stuff we're fairly confident on & no reveal/teaser on next DLC character) and a Joker gameplay reveal that's a bit disappointing. Altogether, the language in the direct seems very 'Sakurai' and because it seems a little disappointing in some aspects, it made it more believable. I wasn't sure if it was discussed here or not, though.

I'll make a recap of my predicted reveals:
>Pac-Man wasn't the way I expected at all because I imagined Namco going for the Ghostly Adventures look. It was a cool surprise to see the World design instead.
>Mewtwo went the way I imagined, with the Splash screen text and all.
>Roy went exactly the way I imagined.
>Ridley was expected by me, but the trailer wasn't the way I imagined.
>Similar case with K.Rool minus the moveset.
>Dark Samus caught me off-guard since I didn't expect the reveal to be that way.
>Chrom was the way I imagined.
>Simon almost was the way I imagined until Richter happened.
>Isabelle was basically the way I imagined.
>Ken and Incineroar was basically how I pictured it except it looked cooler than I imagined.
>Duck Hunt Dog was better than expected.


Yeah, those are basically the characters I predicted.

Not gonna lie, I would be hype if Walking Dead got into Smash via Lee. It'd be like Negan in Tekken 7 only I give a **** more for the game.

Oddly enough, Metroid is one of my most favorite things in the world and yet I felt neutral towards Ridley. I was like "Hey, cool, it's Riddle McDiddles" rather than "AADRZGAWTRSZ RIDLEY".

I got more excited for Dark Samus.

I actually loved the Direct for the Dragon Quest stuff and Link's Awakening alone.

Still, even if Olimar's reveal is cited as evidence for 'it never ends on hype', I imagine it still probably went down well cos he was expected/requested

Now ROB's however ... I wasn't following smash speculation communities at the time, but as I understand it, he was one of the last characters leaked for the Brawl roster, which meant that other characters - who couldn't get in because Smash DLC wasn't a thing yet - weren't in, but he was. The memes from the time speak for themselves

I just knew that Sakurai would add Ridley in the game from the moment "Everyone is Here!" happened.

It was clear that Sakurai would cover some popular demands this time.

I didn't get to enjoy it in a right way back then doh, since I was still kind of dissapointed about Samus not looking like in Samus Returns.

In the end I got over it and celebrated Ridley doh.

Yeah. I’m surprised Samus’s design wasn’t changed with how many other characters who were.

Hot take but I actually really like how the Other M suit looks


It feels sleek and nice while the Samus Returns suit looks kinda... chunky for no reason idk how to explain it

Ridley was easily the most hype reveal because it was mother****ing Ridley and the only way for them to ever top that is with Crono or an Etrian Odyssey character

tbh, the design's pretty similar already...
plus they used her Samus Returns artwork for her Fighter Spirit so it all worked out in the end. Kind of.

I predicted Ridley because of the Smash 4 memes. If Sakurai had to make him a stage boss, I assumed it was because of fan demand. It was only natural he would be in at some point, so I wasn't surprised. Pleased, but not surprised.

Yeah, Other M' suit isn't that bad.

I was just worried that Samus wouldn't improve or change as much as the other characters this time by the looks of it.

Thankfully I got over it, and things turned out better than expected.
