so, since the mystery won't be solving itself for quite some time, i have two completely separate theories on what the deal with P5 regal/feMC is in relation to the game itself and smash that i'm 50/50 on

• theory a) regal is a spinoff-ish thing/standalone expansion to P5 in the vein of torna: the golden country, and jane (we'll call her jane) is the protagonist. what we get with her inclusion in smash is similar to what we'd probably get if, say, addam was added as a skin to a DLC rex as a means of promoting torna--it wouldn't quite be a perfect fit, and there'd be some aspects of the depiction that seem off as a consequence of having to give both characters the same taunts and moves etc., but regardless it would serve its purpose (with sakurai maybe resolving to separate the two out in a future installment and declone the skin).
• theory b) regal is an enhanced rerelease, and jane is joker. the interview response from the trailer was chosen to show off the difference in characterisation for the female protagonist--where the male protag is cocksure and believes that the phantom thieves are the only real answer to society's problems, the female protag is polite, a bit more uncertain, and even regretful of their methods (like how ryuji seems uncomfortable after kamoshida's change of heart), and wants to encourage society to right themselves as much as possible without having to rely on groups like the phantom thieves (e.g. by dismissing them in public and saying that "the only one who can fix your problems is you"). this would also explain the bizarreness of jane using arsene (maybe a different appearance, like with P3P's female protagonist) as well as joker's weapon, the knife.

weirdly, as much as i'd be up for 30 more hours or so of brand-new P5 content, i also really feel like playing through the actual game again with a new spin on things

My money is on theory B. It just makes the most sense to me.

Honestly, even if these are ports, Switch owners should be looking forward to April, it's looking really good.

Cuphead, Final Fantasy X/X-2 and XII THE ZODIAC AGE, Dragon's Dogma, Phoenix Wright, lots of good stuff to tide all the Persona 5 bull****.

I unironically want this so bad, I love Addam. I'd be fine with a cloned Addam of Rex when it comes to moveset, but they need to give Addam his own proportions and size as Rex is a boy and Addam is a man. They are kinda similar outside of both using the Aegis though.

That seems pretty par-for-the-course for an Asian-centric game. If there's any heavily Japanese/Asain inspired game, and there's a dub, expect a lot of complaints. It's like peanut butter and jelly at this point.

i was iffy on it until i realised just how weird her using arsene/a dagger would be if she wasn't directly tied in somehow with joker

like, clone characters have been known to have some inconsistencies here and there as a consequence of sharing movesets (hello pre-ultimate ganon), but i genuinely don't see sakurai just outright forcing a completely unrelated moveset into another character

As someone who loves weird crossovers (Heck, my sugestion was a character from Amalgam freakin Comics) and who loves to draw but struggles doing posed characters, I really enjoy you're project. It's something I would want to do myself If I had a bit more practice. I find it really inspirational.

I can't wait to see how many more weird situations you get to draw! It's going to be amazing!

As someone who has had Persona explained to me in the smallest of details, from what I understand Makoto and Minato from P3 were basically completly different characters who used the same Persona. It makes sense for that to be the same thing here. Especially sense Joker is a codename and not a name name. I understand the desire to have a simple gender-flipped version of the character, but with how much that would require them to change the writing anyway, I can understand why they'd want to go all out with it.
