It's Obvious that this is fake.

1) It's incredibly easy to photoshop the Smash Ultimate Website
2) These choices don't make any sense and Reimu is one of the characters, Reimu? Really? I mean I would be okay with it but that literally makes 0 sense as if there were to be an Indie character it would be Sans
and 3) There is 0 reason to believe this, Reimu is totally out of left field and doesn't fit with what Insiders are saying, and Chrono doesn't really make sense as he doesn't fit "Brave" to the point he fits less than even Geno.
I mean, Touhou has been around for 22 years and has been the one true "legacy" indie franchise, if you wanna go by Nintendo and Sakurai's definition of legacy. Hell, a lot of Undertale's core gameplay was inspired by Touhou, was even stated in interviews.

If there were any characters in the running for indies, it'd be Sans and Reimu, honestly.

People complain when people link to Resetera because it's "toxic" and yet two people link to a 4chan thread with a straight up N-Bomb in the first reply.

Again, Really? Man, I really had no idea Touhou was this big of a thing. I'm gonna go do research on this now

Well Xenother is almost 100% misinformed/lying considering their source said they played a playable test build with Steve in it waaaaaay back in like september but noatesty (who leaked P L A N T) said that the test build they played a bit before the november direct only had Plant, Ken, and Incineroar as newcomers iirc
Not to mention, he got the direct date horribly wrong. Claiming there'd be one in January. We all know how that turned out.

The image is not the point, he posted a link for the json file in the thread as well.
And some guys are investigating it.

And aparently this thing is real.
Says who?

The supporters of the characters, listed?

While I won't argue that Touhou is well known, I'm 100% sure that Minecraft is the largest indie franchise of all time.
Define "large".

Because Minecraft as a series has one or two games, while Touhou has like 25 games to it (and those are just the ones made by ZUN, and not counting all the doujins).

Minecraft is definitely more well known and more prolific, but Touhou is way, way bigger.

Verge still hasn't gotten anything about Smash wrong, in all fairness.
Objection! Last I checked, Joker isn't a Square Enix rep.
Even without Verge, a Dragon Quest character was always a strong
Yeah, but without Verge, Erdrick wouldn't have been as talked up as he has been lately. Also, he wouldn't have dominated speculation as much as he did up until that last direct. It was needlessly annoying.

speaking of 4chan, is 5chan just japanese 4chan? I wonder if they have the same amount of stupid trolls but Japanese
I remember someone posting discussions from 5chan about Smash leaks (e.g. Grinch Leak), and one of the posters was a Japanese guy telling a Korean guy he was sub-human, so... yeah.

At this point, it's still the biggest indie franchise. Look at Bad Apple, some of the memes, that one fan made anime is another point of contention.

It's essentially the "Super Mario of indies". I get that Reimu is a meme, but you know that Reimu is just as deserving as Rex, Banjo, and all the rest.

By large, I'm talking exposure. Games and longetivity don't really mean much in the long run. Here, look at it this way: James Bond has been around for FAR longer than Star Wars, being around since the 50s compared to Star Wars 70s, and Bond has far more movies compared to Star Wars. With that said, you are far more likely to see Darth Vader toys at your local Walmart than you are to see James Bond toys. Yeah, Bond has been around for longer, and had a lot of media with literature, games, movies, and both are still popular, but Star Wars as a whole is far more popular, and thus, a much bigger franchise than James Bond.

If the Switch didn't come along and basically invalidate the Wii U's very existence, I'd argue it's a really good console.

But now unless you really want to play SM3DW, TMS#FE or, uh, Devil's Third? There's no point in having one.

I was wondering about Super Mario Maker 2 and what they could add... the All-Star/GBA variants of Mario 1 and 2 are definitely possible as game skins (they'd need new assets for the stuff that was new to Mario Maker but that's not impossible), and something I would push for.

So, main point, would Donkey Kong '94, Super Mario Land 2 and Wario Land work as game skins?

It’s interesting to look back and see how they (not just Nintendo with the VB, but various other companies, such as some arcade manufacturers) thought that trying to do VR way back in the day was a good idea. Like, the idea was just so cool, but the technology just wasn’t there at all.

The thing is, the only reason Touhou isn't bigger than it currently is is because ZUN doesn't want it to be.

Don't forget the HD versions of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, as well as Wonderful 101.

The Wii U does still have some exclusives, even if the Switch is gradually stealing them all.
Can it also add Metal Face?
Well... if you want the Mystery Mushroom sprite to be a mess of pixels, yeah.

If a leak seems too good to be true, by which I mean it has characters like Crono, Agumon, Banjo & Kazooie, etc I automatically discredit it, especially if there’s more than one such character on it

I feel like Donkey Kong wouldn't. Totally different animations that would need to be retooled for every power up, plus different hitboxes for DK that would have to be accounted for and Nintendo wouldn't want to bother.

I think the "physical key" mechanic could be cool as a variant of the current key system for puzzles, even if they don't include the Donkey Kong aesthetic.

Though it would also make for hellish gauntlets, so maybe it's not a great idea.

Oh I didn't. I'm in the middle of my TP:HD playthough now. I was being facetious.

My Wii U is still hooked up and I love it. But I have increasingly less reason to play it with no Miiverse and Splatoon 2/SMM2/MK8D/Ultimate/etc. making their old versions obsolete. It's kind of unprecedented how a console just straight up rips all the good stuff off the last console.
