Rushdown works better against most of the cast. I could show you defense and keepaway like I used to do way earlier though... lol

My defense is GREAT in every other fighting game I have played. I was a defense monster in Tekken and Soul Cal as well as smash. I dunno why I suck at it so much in this game

Not to sound snarky or anything, but maybe you should level up your defense skills in this game then?

I mean, what is the point of those fancy combos, if you're just getting blown up online because your defense sucks? Or you know, it could be online.

edit: Also, defense in 3D fighting games is very different than 2D. It may take you longer to adapt.

I agree with this. I used to do training mode and focus just on blocking and hitconfirming on the CPU so I could get better at it. Then whenever I'm in an actual match, I try to be prepared to know where to defend and understand what mixups they like doing.

i dont have the game so i couldnt really practice em lol

whenever i play marvel ive just been running off video knowledge

im just scared of air grabs cuz im not really sure how they work. and when i watched jimmyp vs nerdjosh, air grabs basically won all the games for nerdjosh, he was getting em all the time and i was like wtf why. i couldnt tell what was forcing jimmyp to jump and what option he chose to get the grab every time, i was thinking is he predicting it or is that an option select?

I was. I went on a particularly long losing streak and did enough Advancing Guards to pump my Advanced Defense stat up to 5. Stability went down to 2-3.

Stuff like that isn't necessarily a measure of skill.

No. The ranks are still the same, they just change in name depending on what the highest stat of your play style is.

Lord = Stability
Scout = Basic Offense
Guard = Basic Defense
Judge = Advanced Defense
Ranger = Advanced Offense

Edit @ Serris: Yeah, you're still the best Phoenix I've played...I don't think I ever won whenever you reached Dark Phoenix.

I don't think my team can legitimately win against her. Too much chip, too many mix-ups...and I can't zone that well with my characters.

Not trying to offend you guys or anyone, but once you get past thinking of what's considered cheap or spamming, you'll improve.
If you think something is cheap, you'll blame your losses because of that and you won't think of how to not get caught in it or get around it.
If you think people are assist spamming, punish them so they're afraid to call an assist. Just use Hyper Sentinel Force, Serris, and the assist will lose more than half of their life.
