1. Each player takes turn "striking" a stage until one remains and the first match of the set is played on the "unstriked" stage.WELL HAI!
My name is Matt. I will be coming to this lovely little tournament (hopefully I can find my way around the campus). I do have a couple questions, however.
1.) Can someone elaborate on the Stage Striking in the redwood counter system? I do not understand-.-
2.) What is "wobbling"? (as seen in General Rules)
3.) Is it possible to participate in teams AND singles? Or are the tournaments run concurrently?
4.) Anyone have an idea of the expected population of this?
Replies are greatly appreciated.
Edit1: And if you require a name to a face: I am Matt from SBCC. I play with Bryant and Eric. I am trying to get Paul H. (maybe you know him, maybe you don't) but he will not be able to stay late - - - only afternoon.
Edit2: Do we need additional setups? I could probably bring wii, game, and memory card, but I don't have more than 1 controller and my TV doesn't have frikkin composite ports. If anyone has a method of converting HDMI or Component to composite, then we can use my TV, otherwise, nogo.

Your explanations are somewhat better than mine.1. Each player takes a turn striking a stage off the neutrals list until one remains. that stage is played for the first match.
2.an ice climber infinite grab. look it up on youtube.
3. Yes it is possible to participate in both. Doubles takes place, then singles after doubles winds down.
4. at least ten. maybe as many as 14 or 15, depending on how many people you bring.
oh shoot I think I remember you. You came to a tourney I held at San Marcos High School a couple years ago. you made it to finals against Bryant I think. You play fox and jiggs correct?
Bring Bryant and Paul Hughes!
Nice, are they bringing set ups?Cape said two people from his crew are going
when did he say that?Cape said two people from his crew are going
Rightio. I also play Falco, Marth, Doc, Shiek, and Cfal.dante said:oh shoot I think I remember you. You came to a tourney I held at San Marcos High School a couple years ago. you made it to finals against Bryant I think. You play fox and jiggs correct?
I can only bring console, and memory card. My TV has component (green, blue, red) not composite (yellow, white, red). If someone has an adapter (which I imagine is ridiculous complicated) then itll work. On the other hand, I may be able to convince my brother into letting me borrow his TV. I'll let ya'll know. If I can't get it, will just the console and memory card be good?metal said:Yes, we need set ups. So far we only have 2 confirmed set ups. Will you bring set ups?
Yes, it will still be helpful.Rightio. I also play Falco, Marth, Doc, Shiek, and Cfal.

So are you trying to say that you can go as long as someone gives you a ride? I do not have a car, but I can try to see if I can make some arrangements. I will keep you posted on this.I texted cape about the tourney a couple weeks ago and he confirmed today that he can't go but two ppl will. Cape also said they might bring some recording setups.
@ huy : a ride situation is part of why I can't make it
why would they be? you didn't put them up.So are the flyers up yet, Dante?![]()
That is correct. I thought someone might take up the offer for a venue fee waiver but apparently that didn't happen.why would they be? you didn't put them up.![]()
I think the schedule goes something like this:Yeah so I actually wont be going (but the list already knows that). I cant be there till about 5 but you guys should still be there for friendlys right?
only if it's an sdtv. (i.e. a CRT not hdtv)hmm no lag?
Thanks for explaining, Dante.basically, any tv that isn't crt causes lag.
Thanks for the explanation. I hope to play you tomorrow.So....
CRTs, the little cathode-ray tube TVs with their electrons accelerating at crazy speeds are much faster at punching pixels in response to actions sent to the device, then through composite cables, then to the TV.
HDTV with their liquid crystal displays might be a little slower on the uptake for a console like, say, gamecube. But the newer devices like xbox360 and playstation3 have the capability to use an HDMI connection. The wii has the ability to use a component connection. What these 3 consoles have in common, is that they have an "HD" mode that compensates for the delay associated with the display. The Wii also has a calibration that let's us do some fine tweeking.
My point: With my Wii, the HDTV shouldn't be a problem. Any testimony that tells otherwise is likely due to a placebo effect.
Thanks for the explanation Dante.that's not the reason. Ok I might not get all the details correct but here's what I know:
1.every tv has a "native resolution" that it runs in. for CRTs, this res. is 480i.
2.gamecube games such as melee run at 480i.
3. Plasmas, LCDs projectors etc. run at a native resolution of either 720p or 1080p. basically when a tv creates the image it "interlaces" (the "i" in 480i stands for "interlaced") vertical lines to create that image. at a res. of 480i, that means the tv displays 480 of these vertical lines. at 480 p, the line count is doubled. what the 720p in your tv's native resolution means, is that when a game like melee is plugged in to an hdtv, the tv has to do what is known as "upscaling" the image. basically the tv has to fill in the extra vertical lines since melee is only meant to run at 480i. this upscaling takes a fraction of time for the tv to accomplish, thus causing what we perceive as lag. even on the hdtvs made specifically for gaming, there's only so much they can do to cut down on this time, it's never actually eliminated.
tl;dr. don't worry about it, bring your console and I'll try to help josh bring an extra crt so we can have 3 setups at this thing. I'll still waive your venue fee because you helped out with the setups.
edit: here's a good faq that explains what I mean: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=558125
Hello Matt. Do you have a partner for Melee doubles already? Including you and the rest of your crew, there are 3 members so I assume one of needs a partner for Melee doubles. Either that or I will team up with DavidFalco.So....

This is excellent news Caleb.hey i have good news! I CAN MAKE THIS THING! but i have a situation about bringing a setup.
i cant really bring a setup because around 6 o clock i have to leave straight from ucsb by bus to downtown state because im going to the sb film festival
OR
im thinking i can bring my setup leave it there and SOMEONE take responsibility for it which shouldnt be a problem because im probably going to come back around 11 to pick it up. but worst case scenario, someone might have to take it and hold on to it for like a day.
so as long as someone is willing to do so i can bring it. and im glad i can come to this =)
I'll take care of it. You have my word. if it rains I can use a jacket or something to cover it while we transfer it from car to building.hey i have good news! I CAN MAKE THIS THING! but i have a situation about bringing a setup.
