The worst part about generation IV and which ultimately put me off buying is how slow the graphical animations for the attacks are. To be fair, Generation I is absolutely painful for me now, but Generation III got that right, why slow it down?

That's part of the reason why I don't like the 3D games. The animations are way too long.

Pretty accurate though, IMO, but I enjoy Double Battles, am fine with weather in general (Hailing Red battle is stupid though), Breeding, and Happiness (although it's rather weird).

Only 3rd Generation Contests were good.

3rd gen stuff (also i thought op was the first post of 2nd page so yah, little bit of weird stuff in here)

*The graphics/music. Very appealing when in 3rd gen especially.

*Double battles -- jesus hell these are fun. i mean JESUS HELL THESE ARE FUN. that's all i gotta say though.

*Contests -- man I dunno, contests are just awesome. It's something different and I actually like change. Especially in my Nintendo games since I barely get to see it.

*Battle Frontiers -- oh wow, these are just amazing. They make the game longevity that much longer. I LOVE this thing. So much.

*Abilities/Natures -- ok, natures not so much since they don't effect my game that much in the end, but it's still nice. However abilities are just amazing. This really changed it to where I actually feel like I'm using a different Pokemon in case I decide to switch up water types or whatever. Really cool stuff right there. (edit: ok, kind of lying on the nature thing... but really i don't exactly nature hunt so that's what i mean. I just base my capture on gender and ability usually)

yah 3rd gen brought a lot though. brr i really don't see what you mean by flaws either -- but then again i just count the whole *well last gens had this over 3rd gen* and all that jazz all in one little box that just doesn't really affect me that much so yah.

also on topic about the whole battery thing. i'd say i put around 300 - 400 hours on my crystal or so (i can't tell since i restart my games actually) so i don't know if mine should be running out.. but so far it hasn't. i've had it for a while though.

edit:
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Attraction and/or Catching Feebas (Generation III)
Pick your poison. Dammit, Generation III, seriously.
attraction was gen 2 pretty sure

Yep, you're right.

I'm not really sure why people scapegoat Gen III so much.
Well the number one reason is that a lot of people simply grew out of it.

The new design approach wasn't a big hit with everyone.

Lack of backward compatibility (I know this was a tradeoff for the upgrade in game mechanics but it still upset people.)

The vastly limited Pokédex in R/S. When people think Gen III, they mostly discount FR/LG. I still think RSE was the weakest in the series. That's by no means a putdown though, they were still great.

Just saying a few reasons why they get bashed.

Ruby & Sapphire (but especially Emerald) really revolutionized Pokemon. I mean think about it, Contests, Pokemon Box fixes, Natures, changes to the EV system (I think? Might've been 2nd gen.), Abilities, running shoes, totally revamped berry system from G/S/C, Battle Frontier, double battles, new moves, secret bases, weather, new pokemon and locations (duh), and I'm sure I'm missing a lot more. It doesn't get enough credit.

Oh, that, and a lot of Pokemon were based off of folktales, legends, mythology, and things like that, which appeals to me.

3rd is still my favorite gen, a lot of it having to do with its oodles of extra content. I really want a DS remake someday (far off in the future so I can enjoy HG/SS).

Since all the good I can think of has been mentioned, I have some complaints.

1. PEOPLE DISSING SCEPTILE

2. Sandstorm/hail teams. Because of course when the pokémon with sand stream/snow warning dies they somehow still produce massive amounts of sand/ice. Because that makes sense.

3. Shedinja in the battle frrontier when your one victory away from the Gold Symbol. Seriously.

Oh I guess I have some good.

I personally liked the re-evolutions of some older pokés, and I also liked the ability to catch the other legendaries (emerald).

To me, R/S were okay, but they weren't that great. Fr/Lg were better, but it's still not amazing. Emerald is where 3rd Gen got it spot on. All of the great things added there makes it one of my favorite Pokemon games.

Oh, and I have every game up to Platinum version. Sadly, my Yellow, Crystal, Firered, and two Emeralds are missing(wait....most of my 3rd versions!?!) and the battery in my Silver and Crystal has died. I have also yet to complete Green Version, mainly due to the language barrier. I know Generation 1 inside and out(woot for my Missingno interest), but if I can't read the attack names, I'm stuck. I think I'm at Blaine or somewhere after him.

Next Gen, I think instead of getting the new game, I'll wait and get the R/S remake and do this every other generation.

the original pokemon seemed to be more thought out and well put together as far as character design, the newer gens seem like re-hashed versions of animals that they didnt put a lot of time into it. its just like when pokemon's success of the first gen made them so much money, they fired all there artists and hired "better" ones without pokemons original ideas and themes. thats what i think happened anyways ...

what? they didn't fire them.. the newer pokemon are just as original as the older ones. all made by the same artist.

the only think that hasn't changed is the formula. catch a stupid looking a creature, go to a stupid looking town/city, beat up some cool looking gym leaders, then become president of japan.

This is what bothers me a little. People now expect remakes of EVERY game. Look, if they actually do decide to go back 3 years in the past AGAIN...then okay. But really, I think they are through with revisiting the past. It's about time Pokemon actually moved foward in time. They've been stuck between the same 3 year period for over a decade now.

Of course I could be wrong about there not being Gen 3 remakes and have my mind completely blown away...but I doubt it.

bro, they move forward every time before they even make remakes.

i'd rather them make a remake than rush out a stupid pokemon game. more time gives it more originality and that's exactly what the remakes give them. profits and time.

and trust me, i'm pretty sure they won't be overhauling the engine for a remake anytime soon, so i really doubt they'd have the entire game freak team working on the remakes.

What? No, you've got it backwards. Third Gen clearly has the most thought out designs. The pokemon in third gen all seem to exist in the same world, more than any other gen. You see a third gen, and you can recognize its style right away. No other generation has this. Everyone in first gen thinks that Slowbro is eating cake. Then let's not forget the biggest discrase to pokemon ever:

Just look at its original sprite:

Third gen had the most coherent designs.

:mad088:

though I agree i liked 3rd gen designs the best

edit: and i realize i'm implying you're saying 3rd gen had best designs. are you saying they did or are you saying they're the most original?

i disagree with what you are saying, but i do see the points you make. IMO 1st gen pokes will always be the best.

IMO, Snorlax had the best sprite. Too bad they never did anything so awesome for Snorlax in the recent games....

Oh well, Hg/Ss sprites more than make up for it.

I disagree with Snorlax being the best. Golbat is clearly better. I mean seriously, that thing looks too ridiculous to not be the best.

Tentacruel's pretty amazing too actually. Reminds me of some evil overlord.

I want to give that Omastar sprite a high five, but the best sprite was Kingler by far.

I agree with your top 5's Youku, but maybe in a different order. However, I enjoyed Colosseum, so I enjoyed Double Battles, and I also liked breeding, especially stuff like you have to breed a Togetic with a Honchkrow for the Togepi to learn Nasty Plot.

I concur.

Also, hands down, the best sprites come directly from 3rd gen either way.

Maybe 4th gen. But really anything first gen is kind of ridiculous. I did not understand half the designs at all. The only time they made sense was in the anime.

They all looked wide eyed and happy, especially Gplem- it looks like it wants you to give it a hug and some chocolate.

All of them are out of proportion though- so much that it isn't funny XD.

But seriously, this will stop me from sleeping tonight.

I wonder what ideas for pokemon were scrapped in the 1st gen, and if there are possibly any that were added later. There must be hundreds of sketches and pitches for new species that didn't quite make the cut, and some of them undoubtedly inspired the pokemon in the newer generations.

Also, :036: > :040:

EDIT: Electrode's sprite practically screams, "u mad?"
