If you're deciding to main Samus, yeah, you're making a huge mistake. If you're deciding to main Samus because she looks cool, then I give you props.

Seriously though what's with all the new Samus players? Do you think it's Tudor's latest vid being featured on the other site? What gives? She hasn't placed anywhere, no ATs, terribly awkward to play, etc..

*sigh*

I was hoping this would be a good thread. Oh well, I feel that Samus can do much more than what I've seen so far, that and I have loved the Metroid games and main Samus since Melee to give up on her. At first I first main Ice Climbers, but they got real boring and predictable, so I swiched back to Samus because she's fun to play as, and unexpectly, I win more with her in underground tourney's than Ice Climbers.

What's wrong with more Samus mains?

I don't think you're making a mistake, but I do hope you're motivated to work hard because it takes a lot of work to be good with Samus and that's no lie!

lol but seriously take it from the best samus main in the world....me. Samus is a very fun character with great aerial control and mix ups. But she cant kill for ****, so if you plan on doing well the first thing you need to learn is how to trick your oponent into runing to a chargeshot off stage :)

I always just used her for fun, but after a long break Ike just seemed boring and I was in a Metroid mood xD
But I agree with N00b, there has been (even for me and i've been here for like..3 weeks) a lot of new faces.

That and come on, a board that has BROILERS is so fun to be around that you can't resist but main Samus <3

You can't resist.....

I chose Samus because I started playing metroid Zero Mission (which I got for christmas). Then I remembered how much I loved Fusion, and that was that

i just picked up samus, and shes one of my primary low tier charas now (low tiers at cot4 ftw!)
it was actually before i saw tudors vid though. i orgiinally mained samus in melee, but hated her in brawl. then playing some random friendlies a couple weeks ago i got samus and something clicked, now i love playing her and iv gotten rly good.

I might be a new face around here, but it's only cause I'm new to the board itself. I used Samus since N64 and I'll keep maining her.

It's deceiving to see what they've done with her since Melee, but it's really the only character I feel confortable with, and the only one I have fun with. Ever since Melee, I've tried using so many different characters, but Samus is the only one I enjoy so I'm sticking with her.

I started using ZSS and I'm planning to become better with her aswell, but Samus will always stay my main, no matter what.

@ Spike, welcome to the boards! We're a happy bunch, especially when we all meet around a broiler and talk about the tales of past battles.
All the fun aside, Samus is awesome and good to have you aboard.

To all new players, check out the Samus Database, the Samus Guide and the Samus Matchup Topic if you want to become better at Samus and playing with her competively =)

welcome new samuses <waves> :) she really is the kwlest character in the game ^^ so the fact that you guys are trying to main her shows you have awesome taste! Unlike wario mains... <.< (rob is kwl too, I ♥ robots :D)
some things to know:
-the broiler=overrated (seriously this vid didn't show anything except that captain falcon gave up on life <.<)
- Hyperstation has the manliest samus, he even has purple body odor.
- Why does sago have a ****ing strawberry for his avatar? nobody knows.
plus, how is it balancing like that?!... this is the power of samus.
- Speaking of avatars, tudor really needs to get one :(

^^ on a serious note, just be prepared to work hard with her, I think her main weakness is that a lot of her moves are pretty situational, so just be prepared to have to learn how and when to use them :D

It pretty much was the case in past games too. Samus has always been somewhat hard to control, but now it's worst then before. But yeah I can clearly say my experience with Samus in N64/Melee gives me an advantage(compared to people who picked her up on Brawl first).

As of now I'm having a hard time for a few reasons. I only play Wifi with random people(no friends yet :ohwell: ), so it's always free-for-alls, which really isn't Samus' strength. And there's also the lag that's quite annoying sometimes. I'm pretty sure that if I'd do 1v1's against the same people, I'd be winning more then half the time.

And speaking of Wifi, is it just me or most of the people keep running away and play like noobs? I have yet to meet someone who's not gonna run away the whole time, to pick pokeballs and various items to throw right back at my face. I won like twice on about 20 fights, so I still have to get re-used to her. At least I only finished last once or twice, so it's not that bad. Especially for someone who doesn't even own the game(my bro let me borrow his).

Haha! If you're the best, than who am I?

You're pretty good, though, Sago. As for your little bit on Samus' lack of kill moves, I see it this way: Samus is quick at racking up damage, which makes up for the lack of kill moves. You should ask a friend of mine. We were playing an FFA, and the match ended up between him and I. He was Peach, and I was Samus. I was on my last stock with high damage percent. He was Peach. I could've won, but I didn't. Still, I got him up in damage percent real quick. I guess it was amazing, because one of the people who were playing wrote, "Wow" for his tag when we were in the Character Select.

One relevant point regarding Samus's kill ability
Abortive attempt at supporting evidence based on anecdotal wifi experience and irrelevant boasting
Yo Dryn your posts are getting better! Trying to impress the new Samus mains I see :lick:

Yes, I am trying to impress the new Samus mains, n00b. I'm also trying to take to heart about what you said, about name-dropping and stuff like that. I am not intending to boast, but am simply expressing how Samus can be a solid character, despite some of her weaknesses.

To all of you who are deciding to use Samus, keep in mind of her weaknesses. Don't trying to go in the game to show people that Samus is a really great character. It's easy to see her strengths, but don't forget about her poor kill moves. Samus is a character of strategy and patience, just like she is in her games.

Running away and play like pros, you mean.
Did you read the following line in my post? Seriously, I don't really consider it pro. Running away is one thing, but not fighting even once, just picking up items and throwin' em isn't pro. Not that everyone plays like that, but I fought a few people that were litteraly avoiding any fight whatsoever, either to go taunt or use items.

Backing off from a fight is understandable, I do it myself, but what I meant is that my opponents litteraly didn't fight at all. Those few people were just avoiding any attacks and camping at the edge, waiting for someone to approach just to flee again. I don't know if that's what people consider "pro", cause I've watched several vids where people actually fight, and THOSE make good fights. Fleeing doesn't.

If your post was merely because of your screenname, then forget anything I said.

Actually, running and camping is perhaps the most effective tactic you can use in this game. It especially helps if you get control of the items on the stage. Why risk getting hit if you can have the items fight for you? Those guys must be pro.

I got to admit, it is a better tactic. I can't count how many times I won in Melee with friends(two of them), letting them fight each other until they're at high % and ready to get KO'ed from behind(by me, of course). Maybe I'm expecting it to be too much like a 1v1 with no items. After all, it's the exact opposite.

Back in Melee, all I ever did with friends was 1v1's or ffa's with no items, on simple stages like fd or hyrule temple. I always pretty much hated items or "complicated" stages(the ones that scroll, etc). I just personnaly prefer straightforward fights with nothing that's luck-involved, and that's probably why I wasn't really paying attention to what was going on(other then hitting the closest opponent).

^ Yes, but even under competitive settings camping, retreating, counterspacing are all effective tactics.. especially for Samus. Try to be super aggressive in combo video mode with Samus all the time -- it doesn't work (unless you are Tudor tier).

I personally don't condone projectile spam and ledgecamping, but that's why I'm just a n00b.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I learned it the hard way in melee; Samus vs Falco vs Sheik=Falco vs Sheik if you're not paying enough attention.

I just wish they didn't change the way Samus used to be. When I used her in melee, litteraly 9 super missiles out of 10 would hit, and people who had the badluck of being sent out of the stage... well let's just say they didn't live long enough to see the missiles/charged shot coming at 'em.

On a side-note: I guess I didn't totally understand the "competitive" term in Smash. From what you just said, I can figure that it means 1v1's with no items on a straightforward stage? If so then, I played like this for many years without even knowing :psycho: .
