Because I can't get the ftilts to go faster than other times on the same character (fox) and sometimes he escapes during the middle of it when I'm slowing down. Is this me or him?

http://youtube.com/watch?v=F82clXzuxTo

I could never get the ftilts to go as fast as this on him during the match and I tried several times.

that fox sucked. if you notice about halfway through the "lock" he continually tries to use his up-b to escape.
oh to do f-tilt faster dont just "tilt" and constantly push A or its actually slower.

"tilt" it and push A at a steady (constant spaced) pace

, practice some in training and you will get the timing down. my first step to get it down was watching shieks feet whenever i got someone in a "lock" but once you get that down eventually you can just get a feel for it.

I believe if you properly buffer your F-Tilts, they should come out at the maximum speed. I don't think Fox has much of an option when you get him into a proper F-Tilt lock, even if he does try to DI. I've had some times where Fox slips out of the lock when I used to mash the A button for F-Tilts, but not so much anymore now that I try to buffer the F-Tilts.

you have to wait until shieks foot touches the ground again in order to get "maximum speed" at least thats what ive found.

if you mash the A button the speed is the same as the first one but if you push it right as the top of her foot hits the ground you get a little "speed boost"

imagine if you were spin kicking like her, if you could utilize the motion you could in fact move yourself at a faster speed (go in a circle then push again with your foot increasing the momentum you already have)

but mashing A is the same as putting your foot DOWN and stoping that momentum before you start to swing your foot again.

haha game mechanics. hope that helps.

Sheik's ftilt has virtually no buffer frames to it. You need to get the rhythmn down for yourself to attain maximum locking potential.

hmm... didn't know there was a way to make it go faster, I just always press A while tilting the control stick as fast as I can because it's easy to do, and when I see my opponent getting near to being freed from it, I use and up tilt to finnish it. I did battle someone in a sheik ditto though, who tilt locked me a lot and I was able to escape it before it was finnished by just DIing either up or down, if I DIed down I would keep pressing R so I would shield when I got out of it.

How much does pressing it in the right pattern help anyways?

IF you DI it up correctly you can get out before 10 ftilts no mater what character you are fox included. tis hard though.
training mode level 9 comp will show you the correct way.

An example of an easily buffered tilt lock would be Zelda's dtilt... you can literally mash that.
Perfect example. It's incredibly obnoxious.

I want to add that ftilt timing feels completely different online. I think it has to be buffered from lag, but like Ryoko says there's essentially no buffer, changing the timing but not the tight rhythm. It's taken me awhile to get used to.

the way I learned the timing is ftilt and then shield, when that shield pops; when you hear the "gong" sound is makes; that is about the soonest you can ftilt again. I double tap at just before that point so that my second button press would land right on the shield pop... if I were holding shield; the first is a hope at actually hitting the little bit of buffer frames that I hopeare there.

For the online issue, I try to time the button presses to the same tempo as Sheik's grunts since visual cues are nigh worthless. It works out well enough. Offline, I go for the visual cue when Sheik's leg returns to a certain point right above to ground to ftilt again.

I've done a bit of looking and haven't found this anywhere, so I thought I'd ask...What would you guys say if I told you there was a way to escape this in about 3-6 hits?

If you repeatedly smash DI towards Shiek you can footstool off of her head and escape. OR Shiek can throw out an U-Tilt for some extra damage, but either way the "lock" ends.

It's a lot easier to do with lighter characters. My friend who mains ness can do it pretty quickly while it's fairly more difficult for me to escape with Ganon.

This has been well known for a while. If they DI towards you, it's possible to maintain the lock by alternating directions, though this is much more difficult. Still, 6 Ftilts is like 5+4+3+2+3+2 = 24%, plus an uptilt thrown in there for an extra 13% gets you 37%. That's nothing to scoff at.

Also, at percents under 100, I find it very easy to follow up the Uptilt by walking into another Forward Tilt, or at worst an uptilt.

Even 3 ftilts is good enough for me as long as I lead into the utilt.

PLaying sheik for awhile gets you really good control over tilts, and changing directions really isnt that hard, however it doesnt keep them in a "lock"

The lock ends at certain percentages we all know, since it just begins to knock them up. Even if they di towards you, you turn around and ftilt, you will not get more then another two or MAAAAAAAAAYBE three ftilts before they are too high above you for another filt, and you must LINK into a utilt, or if you are ballsy, sh aerial.
