If you're spinning the stick, up and down positions result in tech in place.

You can also fall into issues where you get hit again mere frames before teching (and/or without being able to jump out), and you're spinning the stick/being random.

If you assign tech options to numbers 0-9 and memorize the digits of pi, you could use those digits to throw people off because they're random :awesome:.

Holy ****, that's a great idea! Thanks, how effective do you think this stratagy would be for a Marth main?

You gotta play those pro mind games and roll predictably, then change completely so they're just running around.

I roll too much on instinct, I need to start teching in place more, and get-up attack sometimes throws people off who just stand there waiting for you.

It's easy to joke about, but "don't get hit" is a pretty legit piece of advice that a lot of players could benefit from taking to heart.

The apex results are gonna be a big deal this year for the metagame. I would LOVE if spacies got bodied by lesser known characters because they don't know how to play each other yet. I just hope the P:M finals don't come down to melee vets playing melee characters.

I really don't understand why Meta Knight is rated so high and Kirby is so low. This isn't melee people. Kirby has combos now.

1. Combos do not make a character good.
2. Yes, Kirby has combos. Meta Knight also has combos. And sword normals. And fairly good mobility options in comparison to Kirby (and a lot of other characters).

I know that. It's one of many improvements.

Kirby has a 17% auto-cancelable mallet and a recovery that isn't so predictable. His recovery also has more distance making gimps easier.

But do the different buffs that Kirby has put him on the same level or close to the level of Meta Knight? Until there are multiple tournaments that are ran on the same version, we can not get any data that proves or goes against this.
From a sheer theory perspective, however, the gifts that Meta Knight has received look much better than those that Kirby possesses.

Knightlite, this has been discussed quite a bit around here. Meta Knight has very quick speed, great tech chase from a throw, disjointed ranged hit boxes with his sword, combos, recovery, small target, good priority for the most party, ect.

It's predictable enough. It's certainly not unpredictable enough where I would call it an A-tier recovery. And Kirby is a relatively unexplored character. His only tournament experience has been with Chu Dat, and arguably a healthy chunk of his victory can be credited to match-up inexperience.

Kirby has all of these. Even (technically) a sword. Kirby's tech chases are spectacular. dthrow into dair into regrab is incredibly potent at low %.

My apologies. This thread can be difficult to keep up with.

We all know this is going to be how it ends up.
Unless M2k/Armada/Hungrybox use anyone besides Fox, Sheik, PEach and Jigglypuff.
Hungrybox actually plays MArio a bit, and I am expecting some neat tech for PM characters though, but when it comes to finals I can see a lot of people moving towards their melee characters though.

Meta has a lot going for him. However, I think that Kirby has a lot of strengths as well. He does suffer from a slight case of stubby-arm syndrome, whereas Meta has a nice big sword.
Edit: Armada is going Pit. Also, last year's Apex was Sonic vs Wario. Anything can happen in a new metagame.

That doesn't say much. Most people already knew by then how jank both of those characters were.

That being said, I won't be surprised in the least if Yoshi takes tops, and I'll be even less shocked when Hax steamrolls the entire bracket.

Oh come on, don't give us that. It's a sword technically, but it doesn't even begin to compare to function as one, at least nothing like Marth's sword, Ike's sword, or even Link's sword. You can give a character the biggest sword in the game and if he can't use it as one, it honestly doesn't matter if he has it or not.
And comparing Final Cutter to the transcendent properties of MK's sword? Not even close no offense.

Hax will eventually run into some jank Brawl character and loses because he has no clue what they do.

Wi-Fi squirtle is so silly. Nigh unpunishable side-b's that can't be teched and water spitting is almost as dumb as any instance of Wi-Fi Zelda.
offline squirt can take people down too, http://smashboards.com/threads/show-me-ya-gimps-pit-general-disc.331987/page-6#post-16069432
especially chars like CF/Pit/and Zss(before her D-smash was made to beat it) and when they don't know the MU/how to conquer side-b. My side-b prowess is off the charts though cus I spammed it enough for a whole compilation of it, you gotta incorporate the short hop and full hop from it (not as in cancelling it, you'll bounce up with the shell)

I don't know if it was against you, but I definitely made full use of Squirtle's jank in his first build online, when his side B could be used out of the air facing and near the ledge and still turn around without sliding off.

It was literally flowchart "where are they? Use Side/Down/Neutral B accordingly" for like 6 and a half minutes. After the third hit from side B, the enemy starts sidestepping preemptively and DJ cancels into down Bs start happening.

My earlier statement was meant as a joke (I suppose I could have put a bit more effort into showing that), so none taken. I do agree that Meta Knight is certainly better in the general range department. I was simply looking for other's opinions on the characters, as I was (and am still to some degree) perplexed by how low Kirby is being placed in many of the tier lists I've seen.

So, let me get you guys' expert opinions.

About how much higher on the Tier List would you rank Mewtwo over Fox at this point?

10 spaces? 20? 40? I assume it is closer to 40 now, right? I dunno, I don't play Fox or watch Fox matches, but I assume he is still just as awful as I remember

Really I just need to gauge how much I should laugh at the current turn in events and in what context. I'm teetering between diabolical and maniacal. Suggestions?
