I've never understood why people think Shadow can work as a unique newcomer. Shadow in almost every game he is playable is a carbon copy of Sonic. If Chaos Control is the issue, they can just give him Mewtwo's Up B, and him using guns can be represented through item use. He's the ideal echo because of this.

We have the Ray Gun item and a few others, there Shadow can use guns.

I've been against the idea of an Adventure 3 for the longest time, but with those factors you mention in mind, I thiink it's a good time to return to that style.

Heck, they don't even need to give them gameplay gimmicks like the treasure hunting and mechs.

They could just make them have the same running gameplay as Sonic but with different stats and one or two unique abilitys.

Like Tails flying, Knuckles gliding/climbing, Espio turning invisible, Shadow maybe getting a time stop.

I would love another adventure style game. But I can settle for them just using the cast for more then a bunch of voices in your ear.

I think the whole issue of making Shadow unique stems from games like sonic battle. Shadow was way different than Sonic in that game, I even consider him to be extremely OP to the point of putting Knuckles to shame. I think we can expect to get a great representation of Sonic Adventure 2 Shadow in SSB with some minor alterations and a teleportation up b like you said. I'm really looking forward to seeing the changes that Shadow will have, if he's done right (knowing Sakurai he will be) Shadow will be an amazing character to use. Shadow can be an echo fighter and still be extremely cool.

alright my amigos, let's go over our evidence so far.
the first and biggest thing so far is that shadow's assist trophy still hasn't been seen, even after the assist trophy massacres. it's common speculation that knuckles has taken his place.
with the inclusion of richter, dark samus, and chrom, all of the evidence that was going against shadow has been dunked in the trash.

another track-related piece of evidence to shadow is that the sonic series hasn't had any songs uploaded to the smash bros website. i theorize that shadow will be revealed and one of those 6 songs will be uploaded to site, just like what they did with king k. rool and gangplank galleon.

the only evidence against shadow is sakurai just snapping his fingers and saying he isn't in the game.

Yeah, it's a shame he was introduced in such a bad game. If the game had done well he would have gotten a spin off and who knows what will happen. Though, I have seen clamorings for a solo Silver game slowly building so who knows what can happen.

I still think it would be cool to see all 3 hedghogs in the game, in my opinion. (I also would love to see Tails also).

Baby steps though, lets see if Shadow and Tails get in pre-DLC wave and lets see what happens.

Dude I love Tails but let’s be realistic here. The only reason Shadow is so anticipated is because of Echos. Tails couldn’t be an echo. He just couldn’t. SO LET’S GO SHADOW. Show us the ultimate power..... by being an echo.

Man, this video brings me back. I used to play that game every day as a kid. It also shows us the multitude of chaos moves that he canonically has. If Sakurai wanted to make him a full fledged character this would be the game to pull from.

I find I usually get drawn to these kind of characters a lot. Like how Venom is one of my favorite comic book characters. Or how Zuko is my favorite part of Avatar.

And how I thought Reaper had the coolest design in Overwatch when it was first coming out. I remember hearing once you can tell if someone is a Reaper main by their name, and when I look at mine I just say have to say "Yeah I see it ".

I do have my limits though as I remember back when I watched Naruto I found Sasuke rather unlikable. And even though I never played Uprising so I know my opinion is not fair, I really don't care for Dark Pit.

I love Vegeta too I guess, but that’s the extent. I prefer the heroes to the anti, I like both Sonic and Goku more than their edgy counterparts. Call me basic, but most of my favorite characters end up being the main protagonists.

I'm not sure to be honest. Depends on what you call edgy/brooding. I mean heck, I never really saw Shadow as edgy (minus the whole Guns + saying damn thing from his game).

I'm definitely a fan of dark counterparts of characters though. Though I generally like anti-heroes and villains because they have a color scheme and character design that is more interesting and doesn't kill my eyes with bright colors like a lot of protagonists. More importantly, they usually have some backstory and motivation behind their actions to be the way they are. Whereas protagonists usually are good just for the sake of being good, and that's really boring to me. Of there's some characters that are exceptions, but generally that's how it is.

Always been a fan of darker counterparts of certain characters.

Prior to Shadow being my favorite Sonic character in the series, Knuckles was my favorite character in the series once he appeared for the first time, but ended up being a more comical friendly rival once the Classic series ended, and Shadow replaced Knuckles as my favorite Sonic character (and it's funny that Knuckles is taking over Shadow's job as the assist trophy rep for Sonic).

Prefer Dark Pit over normal Pit, mostly because I simply can't stand normal Pit at all with the way he acts and Dark Pit has the edgy cool factor.

Same goes for Waluigi (who is my favorite Mario character in the series, which doesn't sit well with my mom who loves Luigi), even if he is an assist trophy, I'm just glad to have Waluigi in the game at all.

Dark Samus definitely looks cool, but that floatiness factor is going to be a slight turn-off when playing as her (seeing as regular Samus was already floaty enough to begin with in Smash 4).

For brooding, I was mainly thinking of characters like Batman.

But I totally agree about the motivations being a big appeal to these kind of characters. It can allow you to better empathize with them and their actions. and I think that really gives me something to really latch onto, making me find their interactions, character arcs, and quirks more interesting to watch.

I'm wondering if Shadow will keep Sonic's "Burning Spindash" custom, as an Echo Fighter? since we're nearing the fact Custom Moves are absolutely gone.

The more I think about it, it'd be great if Shadow could just be Sonic, but without having two specials being basically the same thing.
To me, the optimal alternate special would be a reskin of Ness' PK Fire, making it the Chaos Spear. Instead of a fire effect, it stuns opponents for a moment. The reason I specifically chose Ness' variation, is because he throws it at an angle when in the air, similar to how Shadow is usually depicted using Chaos Spear.

I don't EXPECT it, in fact, I'm 90% sure Shadow will just be an echo very much in the vein of Dark Samus, who is basically a carbon copy of Samus, but with a few different animations and effects.
Yet I am incredibly confident Shadow will make it. Between all the fanservice and ballot feedback, he seems incredibly likely.

Put me on the supporter's list! Shoutouts to the ultimate life form having a shot at being in smash ultimate. It's too catchy of a thought not to include him. My opinion in thoughts:

-Shadow is not the most deserving "true" echo fighter to Sonic, but he is definitely the one who seems to have the highest probability of being SEGA's blue hedgehog echo. I mean, even if you can create/design another Sonic franchise character to be his echo fighter like Tails or Amy, or claim Classic Sonic to be in the same game as Modern Sonic as a homage to Sonic Generations, or if you wanna reach and claim Espio just because of Sonic Heroes... You'd have either Anti-Sonic aka Scourge who won't happen or else I'll scream, or Metal Sonic who is literally designed to be Sonic's equal in the form of a clone through metal body but never got heavy support unlike Shadow.

-He has enough source material to not have an complete identical move-set to Sonic, but even so, the most I see is animation changes like his idle standing animation crossing his arms looking aloof and uncaring, skating on air shoes for running, slight Jab combo changes (maybe a doublejump animation change?), and more. In Sonic Battle, his Fsmash could be easily decided to be Chaos Nightmare for example. I could later make a move-set make-up idea.

-Song choices can be anything anyone's already said. Radical Highway, All hail Shadow (I love the one in Sonic and the Black Knight), Supporting me ft. Biolizard, etc.. A stage choice which I don't see happening for an echo fighter, but for fun I'd like to see Battle Highway from Sonic Battle, or in Space Colony Ark as seen in video games like Sonic Adventure 2 / Shadow The Hedgehog.

-If they could re-use the smash 4 customs Sonic had, I see Burning Spin Dash working for Shadow's Down-B as homage to both hedgehogs being able to flame somersault in Sonic Adventure 2. Otherwise? Not really much else.

I've always been skeptical about Chorus Kids, but that's mainly because I never even heard about rhythm heaven before the gematsu leak. Though because of that leak they've been requested a lot, and with Ultimate's emphasis on fan pandering, I see it being a possibility.

I had no idea who Agnes was when this came up. I had to do some digging because a simple google search for "Agnes' will not show up results for her because of how many other popular characters there are with the name Agnes. Apparently she's Agnes Oblige from a game called Bravely Default. I remember hearing about that game, but did it even do well? This seems more like a Square Enix kind of decision to me if this is real. If Nintendo were to take a character, I think they would choose Geno instead. I don't follow Square Enix much, but I have seen them promote some questionable things before (though it's been a long time so I don't remember who). You'd think they'd want to promote something newer though.


Whatever the case is, with how weird the selections are for characters, I could see this happening. The characters look like they could be legit. However with that said, the tools and knowledge to make good fake leaks is pretty easy to obtain nowadays.

Even if you rearrange the order to series, Wario always came before Sonic, and the fighters debut number has Wario before Sonic. Someone did not do their homework if this is a fake.

The leak is 99% fake for a variety of reasons that have been discussed ad nauseam in other threads. The 1% is that this is ESRB Leak 2 Electric Boogaloo, but that still would require videos and a full CSS. But I still think Shadow is as close to a lock as you can get.

When I was younger, most definitely. Definitely agreeing on Shadow, Zuko, Venom, and Reaper. While the meme of "edgelord" for characters like that is pretty amusing, there's definitely something appealing about that archetype for me. Batman as a whole is another big one, and while their execution was piss poor I do appreciate that the DC movies (originally) went for a darker tone.

And I've always had a soft spot for "Dark X" characters. Dark Samus, Dark Link, Shadow Mario, Metal Sonic... pretty much everyone except for Dark Pit, lol.
