I suppose so, but I still feel it's incredible in this game and from what I've heard quite possibly may form the crux of our meta going into the next few months if not longer. I wouldn't use it as an argument against Ness' viability, in other words.

Wall bounce is PKT2ing into a wall and getting a second PKT2. Check my recovery guide for details.

Bair was nerfed in that its hitbox was narrowed.

Ness' moves were overall nerfed, but the environmental changes helped him more than he was hurt.

Bat reflects are fun, but there aren't too many situations where I find it to be the optimal choice. If your opponent knows you have it, they won't just throw strong stuff at you willy nilly.

And mind you I really hate the Villager MU cause it's so boring lol

Honestly, that's right next to that glitch I showed you guys. I think when you reflected with the bat, not only did the Lloid rocket turn away, but the hitbox was also turned over to Villager, killing him. At least, that's what I think happened...

Actually I have a pretty amazing one with villager, I recently used PKT1 on his lloid rocket as he was getting on and it destroyed the lliod rocket and instantly left villager falling in helpless to his death.

I use PSI Magnet for projectiles, IF I can't get out of the way beforehand. If it's coming straight at me, might as well get some healing out of it...

Just last night I was playing against a Sheik in front of a group of people in a set. The Sheik went for Vanish Kills twice in the first game. I memorized the Vanish patterns and next game I healed off of the Vanishes Sheik used in the air to try to kill me. People were like WTF Ness can heal off that? And I got so much recognition haha.

Those are all slight buffs, imo. I'll start with recovery first since that's his main weakness. Most recovery gimps I've had weren't from people simply running into the PKT or getting edge hogged, it was from people being really aggressive offstage and taking my DJ and hitting me again out of my PKT2 to the point where I couldn't even make the edge. Also with the addition of more absorbs and reflects in this game, Ness has more of a problem with those kinds of gimps now. Also what do you mean by wall bounce? Can Ness do wall jumps like Mario, Fox, Falcon, etc.?! That'd be news to me.

Ness has also been hit in the range department on his moves as well. Even though his three best aerials are buffed (nair, fair, uair), his bair and dair got hit hard. His ground game, range-wise, is weaker too since his longest disjoint, the bat, was nerfed. Also it may or may not be true, but I feel his dash grab and dash attack seem to have less range as well. So disjointed characters are still a worthy obstacle for Ness, imo.

Taking away his grab release stuff was a lot more than a small buff. It drastically reduces the reward that other characters got on Ness from landing a grab.

And while the other changes to his recovery were pretty small, taking out ledge hogging was huge for it. It helps him dramatically because it was so easy to time an edgehog in other games due to how slow pk thunder is.

And you think Ness still has trouble with disjointed hitboxes?

At this point in the meta Sonic, Rosalina, Sheik, and Diddy are the ibly matchups that Ness has a decent or significant disadvantage in. Only one of those characters has disjointed hitboxes.

Ness doesn't get screwed over by disjointed hitboxes like he used to. He doesn't lose to Marth, gw, Ike, pits, olimar, shulk, bowser jr etc. If ness was actually susceptible to disjointed hitboxes you would expect him to have more trouble with characters with disjointed hitboxes, but only one character is a serious threat.

I still think Ness doesn't like disjointed hitboxes. It's just that a lot of the disjointed hitbox characters suck now lol.

My boy Ness can Jab 1 and Jab 2 to tilts except for Utilt, Smashes, and grab. He can repeat it too and it feels a bit like using Fox's Jab cancel, reset, lock... thing. Look, he's basically capable of pulling the stuff Luigi can too. Seriously, this kid's grab game... FAAAAAALCO! MOVE YOUR ARMS FASTER! IT'S JAB AND GRAB, IDIOT!

I wonder whether there's anything we could do with this? Like jab 1 + 2 ---> Dtilt x 2 ---> Fsmash or something?

Yeah, I saw Ffamran's post this morning. I wasn't aware of Ness being able to do jab-cancel combos, and I believe I also saw jab-to-grab discussed and disproved here in the Ness boards some time ago, though I don't remember where that was exactly. The most use I've seen from doing jab into something else as Ness is usually using Jab 1 to throw your opponent off-balance, at which point they would be more susceptible to any moves slower than his jabs. Obviously this wouldn't be as effective against players with good reflexes or overall awareness.

When I first read that post, I mistook what he was talking about with jab locking/resetting on a missed tech, which Ness (and many other characters) can indeed do into grabs or smashes or whatever. The downside is that Ness, afaik, doesn't seem to have many moves at all that can put opponents into such a situation. They all seem to pop people into the air lol.

It's not as fast as Fox's or I think Sheik and Luigi's, but I think it's faster than Falco and Sonic's. If anything, it's like a pause combo in hack 'n' slash games like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, and Metal Gear Rising. And it's rhythmic where you get a feel for the pause or delay between continuing Jab or doing something else.

It worked on Mario when I checked and it might only work at lower percents since I don't think I went beyond 50%. So, even if it's not amazing, it's still a neat trick and something to mix up your Jab.

Are you sure about that? Ness' jab doesn't lift, and it doesn't have a lot of stun or recover quickly. I'm almost certain it's an easy escape unless I'm doing it wrong.

Can someone else confirm this?

Yeah, Ness is probably better off Dtilting to something else. Jab 1 and 2 looks like they slightly knock people back and causes hit stun. Still, the mixup might throw people off since they would think you're doing a full Jab combo only to get a pause and then they're grabbed and thrown.

I've played both games if that's what you mean and yes, both have pretty good osts.
But I'm talking about these 2 soundtrack albums that don't have music ripped from the games. The first one an arrangement album, while 1+2 soundtrack is like a recreation of those songs with real instruments.

I'll just get M1's arrangement album for now.

I've seen a tier list that put Ness in the A tier, below the 4 who are deemed to be the best (Rosaluma, Zamus, Diddy, and Sheik). But ya, I think Ness will be near the top this time. Wonder where the rest of my mains will end up...
