I don't hate her either lol. I'm just imagining certain people, maybe they're even on the boards, I can't be sure, seeing this and being all "You want Samus to TALK!?! And you want her to be played by SHE WHO SHALL NOT BE NAMED!", like you just named two of their least favorite things.
I mean, people were fine with Samus talking in Dread. it's one of the very few things I even liked about Dread
Other M only poisoned the well because the writing was complete and utter dog****.

People that get weird about Brie Larson can choke on an egg

Well it depends.

Considering how many characters a Smash movie would have, even if they just focused on the original twelve, I don't imagine they could properly develop everyone. So I'm not hoping for any adaptation.
If they had their own movie franchises to go home to afterwards, they really wouldn't need a lot of individual development in the smash movie.

I think you could do a samus that speaks and reacts pretty well. Let Brie Larson give it a go, she seems to be a diehard Metroid fan and really wants to play samus.
Oh yeah no she's capable and expressed love for the series so I don't doubt she'd work well even if her NFT brigade soured my opinion immensely. And yeah, a Samus who talks and muses on her surroundings or situations does work too, but it's also part of the inherent atmosphere that makes her work in the source material, she's alone, nobody's coming to help her, everything on the planet that's sentient wants her dead and she's been through so, so much. But she carries on despite it all and holds genuine compassion for what she does manage to get on good terms with. She can work in settings with multiple quirky characters but it misses a lot and I just love the whole 'lone, tragic warrior who never stops but has a heart of gold despite never finding peace'. She's a character with a lot of nuance and seeing the average level of media literacy I do not ****ing trust people with her

To me, Brie feels like she could possibly pull off the novice academy days Samus (or Other M Samus) but not really the Samus that the player controls over the course of the series. Besides I don’t really think Brie should be the be-all, end-all choice just because she’s a fan of the series, there’s plenty of other women in Hollywood who could pull off the role.

This is true, I think you need a fair balance between action/exploration and her talking. Creating a strong atmospheric mood first and foremost that Carrie’s the story.

But if you have seems like her reacting to her parents death, crying can work, but I feel like they should also go deeper then that. Same goes for certain other scenes.

I actually think that the Legend of Zelda would be one of the easiest Nintendo IPs to translate to the big screen, imo. Even as a live-action one. But it largely depends on which specific game they'd adapt, if any, as opposed to going for a new storyline.

Were they to adapt a game like Wind Waker or it's sequels, though, I'd think it'd fare better as an animated series.

She can do that, for all I can fault Other M of as an adult who can actually ****ing critically think, her PTSD isn't necessarily butchering her, it was just everything else that butchered her writing. Hell, her PTSD is somewhat explored in Ridley's Smash trailer and people adored what that did with the two angrily going at each other's throats. ****, **** n Boots handled that aspect she has well. It's just that again, very nuanced character who a lot of people are just going to take at face value like Dante from DMC

One nuance I think adds a lot to Samus is the fact that, throughout the series, she doesn't mind following orders. Except for Fusion where most of the orders suck. There are too many tropey action heroes who are "loose cannons" with an itchy trigger finger and clearly just full of themselves, and they always have this moment where they go rogue and put everything in danger only to be luckily proven right in the end. Samus keeps all the likeable parts of that. She's a confident person and a consummate action hero who still clearly does loooove exploding things, but she's not egotistical to any extent. Her mind's always on the mission and saving the world, not herself. She's just pure likeable and cool. That'd just be a great role model too in a more kid-friendly version of Alien, which is probably what Metroid would do.

Most of the time Samus doesn’t need to speak due to her being in an isolated environment most of the time, but when she gets the opportunity to, it’s shown that she’s soft spoken, duty bound and very introspective but has a strong compassionate side when sentient lives are on the line.

TRUE! I never get the people who want Samus to be a full silent protagonist. If anything I wish Samus spoke in Dread more. Fine her one line did hit hard, but what happened to those fun elevator monologues from Fusion? Very Shakespearian.

Anyway here's my slightly more in depth thoughts on the movie.

Mario never wanting to give up might be a cliche hero trait, but I think it was a great way of translating the multiple lives system into a movie. We've all had that level we got stuck on and then died and died again on before finally nailing it.

It occured to me shortly after the movie that the reason Luma wanted to die so much, was because Lumas are reborn when they die. He probably didn't understand why everyone else was so scared because of that.

I love Kamek. He didn't do much but I love him.

I'm really happy about how much love DK got. Making him a rival/frenemy was a great way to bridge his history as a villain with his more heroic depiction from the DKC series. I loved pretty much every moment he was on screen, even if it felt really bizarre watching him be in an action team with Peach and Toad.

I snorted when King Bob-omb's fuse got lit. Got my most elegant moment.

I love how Mario's dream was to be a plumber. I do think that plumbing scene early on lasted a bit too long for my liking, and there was something really bizarre about Luigi being terrorized by a character ripped straight out of Secret Life of Pets.

"As long as we're together, nothing can hurt us." My goodness that came back in the end in a way that was really fun and cute.

Movie Peach hits different. Too bad I'm too much of an egg to unpack those feelings.

Speaking of eggs, the lack of Yoshi does feel very weird in hindsight. The sequel has the potential to be really chaotic if they bring in all 7 Koopalings as well. Probably why we didn't really see them in the first. I predict Birdo will get a cameo but not a major role, and that there will be more teases for a Mario Galaxy movie.

He doesn't show us his sweet moves, so we can imply that's not what's being said here.

Or maybe those are his moves and Samus hates his dancing so much she kills him
I should have you know that The Claw Fling™ is very hot right now on Planet Zebes.

I did say most of the time
he’ll never be redeemed from that sin
He also made the Hulk x Black Widow ship which was one of the worst ships of all time which lead to one of the worst gifs of all time
the memes went all out…and yet the world never did find the sauce to ask the plot maker “why did you make this?” Tho it’s probably best to never find out why it was allowed to be born
pretty much
If the sales for their latest games mean anything, that fandom ain't loyal

Edit: oh wait Krystal wasn't in those, nvm
Big Krystal Energy always needed

Thanks, I hate this
it was fine when Owen did it, but I don’t think TD has done so much farting before
It was a small moment, but my boy Pit got onto the big screen.
inb4 Mario sees Pit as his child thanks to being saved by him in SSE…that and he’s waiting for Nintendo and Sakurai to give us more Uprising

This is Erwin Smith erasure and I will not stand for it.

also calling Mikasa a good character is quite the take
You're Right, Hange is the only good character

I stopped watching Attack On Titan partway through the third season and never bothered with the manga
