With that, here is an unrelated, but possibly fun thing I want to speak of about Smash Bros.

In regards to playable characters that aren't Pokemon, and maybe assist trophies, too, what Pokemon type would you all give to such non-Pokemon characters? For example...

Honestly I was thinking about leaving this site when the next Smash gets announced. But honestly I might actually stick around in a social thread still depending on how things go.

Not gonna touch the speculation threads with a thirty-nine and a half inch pole though.

So as far as games I hope can be on there, is a better port of MK1, SF6, maybe Tekken 8 if we're lucky. Killer Instinct if MS feels like remembering it. Fatal Fury as well might work. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 4 for non fighting games. There's also ports like DMC5 or the Resident Evils.

I'm glad they kept the name simple. Outside of the obvious, I'd be down for Mega Man 12 or MMX9.

Mega Man and Castlevania would be amazing switch 2 third party launch gets. So would’ve new Banjo-Kazooie, though my hopes for that are lower than low.

I guess I look forward to 3D Mario, though if it’s not like 3D World it won’t hold my attention as much. And we’ll probably have to wait a while before Kirby, Yoshi, and DK show up on the system.

Beyond that… I mean there’s not much else Nintendo could do that I’d be interested in. Golden Sun? Maybe. F-Zero? Never gonna happen and I still can’t figure out the controls of any of the games on NSO. 2D Metroid? With it so close to prime 4 and so (relatively) soon after Dread? Yeah no. No 2D Metroid until the Switch 4. Kid Icarus? Star Fox? Probably not? Punch-Out? I would love that but we haven’t had a game since the Wii so we probably won’t get one unless Miyamoto suddenly decides it’s worth it. Astral Chain? Who even knows what will happen with that IP. Bayonetta? With Platinum essentially being shut down? A new IP? IDK what else they could even do at this point that would even be interesting and not modern gaming multiplayer focused and/or open ended sandbox stuff. Smash? Won’t be as special as Ultimate, even if it does bring in some of my most hyped potential characters.

I’ll just have to settle for scraps while everyone else dines on Animal Crossing, Zelda, Fire Emblem, Splatoon, and Xenoblade.

I'm not rejoining Smash speculation but I'll likely stick around for the social thread.

Even if I wanted to torture myself by rejoining speculation I don't think I can feasibly balance it with my current lifestyle, I know what I'm like with these games and their rosters.

And honestly... I don't think I have a horse in this race anymore. I guess some characters would get me excited (Phoenix Wright, Rayman, Isaac, Dixie Kong, any Sonic character) but Ultimate's roster is about as good as a roster like this could feasibly get, and we're never getting anything of that scale again. It's hard to care knowing that a lot of the characters are gonna be gone next time, and I'm mostly hoping my favorites manage to stay (I have given up hope on some, such as Pichu)

Eh, the gap between Samus Returns and Dread wasn't that long. Especially since Prime 4 was supposed to release between them, before development restarted. Dread also sold better than most Metroid titles from what I remember. Again, I'm also hoping for Mega Man 12, or MMX9. Leaks mentioned Onimusha in 2022, and we only just saw it recently and is coming out 2026. So the 2022 Mega Man Taisen in those Capcom leaks could be something, assuming that wasn't related to Battle Network getting a new PVP in the Legacy Collection. If that is the case, then I dunno. We might see Starforce or Legends getting the Legacy treatment. Hell, Capcom's been releasing SOME form of collection most years since 2018 or so.

F-Zero's overall controls aren't that complex, it's more so that the tracks are tricky, at least in GX. As much as I like that game.

The fact that DK got redesigned makes me think we'll see SOMETHING more substantial with him soon. Kirby games come out a lot, but a 3D might take a bit, though Robobot I think had a remake leaked, but I don't know true that is.

Just because people lack self control and need a constant need of information, doesn't mean said information need to be made available right away. I do agree that Kamiya acts like a jerk online. It's just that people aren't entitled to **** right off the bat. Even if I'm excited to see new games.

On the one hand, I'm, again, not a big fan of leaks at all, whether they're genuine or not. Hell, discourse and toxic discussions over them are part of the reason I got so tired of Smash speculation in the first place.

On the other hand, what Kamiya's wishing on genuine leakers here is very much still overkill.

Kamiya works in the industry the leaks are coming from, of course he isn't gonna be happy about that sort of culture existing at all. Imagine how he'd feel if him being at Capcom, reforming Clover and making a new Okami got leaked.

Since we are talking switch 2 speculation, I have a few theories and thoughts, mainly on Mario kart and smash right now.

To start with Mario Kart.

8 Deluxe has 50 characters with the DLC included. Pretty solid number, even with 24 racers now. However there’s still some notable absent characters from tour and ones who never got into tour that could work.

So I’m predicting they round the roster out to 65 characters. Maybe 60, but the extra five is where I think a row of Nintendo characters will be. It just makes sense to rep the biggest franchises as special guests, especially in a game where the racers on a track at one time have double. No DLC this time, but the game will carry over everything from 8 Deluxe. The Booster course pass was just a way to make extra money because they were flipping these assets for the new game anyway, and figured they would give players who couldn’t make the switch right away, the chance to have most of that content.

More importantly, if the normal racer amount is doubled, then I think that’s a telling sign we could see a new battle mode.

That’s right baby, 50 players battle Royale mode. Everyone has 3 lives and are dropped into massive new battle mode courses for pure chaos.

Now for the smash part, I’m going to put this in a quote as this post is getting long.

Well we now have one of these things and it outsold the original game. Combined with the fact Sakurai will likely take from the ballot again, Geno just feels like a no brainer.

as for the rest of the roster, I think everyone will come back from ultimate. People will disagree with me on this because of how crazy it sounds (and my next statement), but I’ve been saying it makes perfect sense. I’m a firm believer there was never a switch pro. If it was so close to production like rumored we would have had some type of physical evidence like all the switch 2 leaks. But it never happened. I think the switch pro was just an early name for Switch 2 and Nintendo realized that be a stupid name and changed it, refining the concept they envisioned for it.

Which is why I think when they were making the fighters passes, they had the new system in mind. I wouldn’t be surprised if the licensing for the DLC fighters tied them to a sequel/port of Ultimate that they were planning. Like Mario kart, smash will probably use most of the same assets from ultimate. The base roster would be pretty easy to get back in this scenario, which is why I see them going for it.

Id expect 10 new characters, maybe a new mode or expansion adventure mode type of thing, more mii costumes, polishing of movesets/maybe changing some moves, more echos( could argue these could be counted outside of 10 fighters) and Id say more DLC is a lock too. It will likely be Sakurai’s swan song for smash as he will use this opportunity to create a new team at Studio S that can succeed in bringing the franchise back in a new era a few years from now without him.

Before that though, he’s doing Kid Icarus Uprising HD for sure. I would not be shocked if it’s a launch title either.

Smash isn’t coming this year though, it will be revealed next year and animal crossing will be year 3.

I also think there's a non-zero chance that this time Smash Ultimate gets the deluxe treatment that Mario Kart got last time. I have no real confirmation of that obviously, just vibes. Though I guess there's always a chance of a re-boot of some kind.

I could go into characters I want to see, namely adding some more characters from Mega Man and Sonic if possible. Hell the same could be said of Street Fighter and Tekken as well.

If we're talking strictly Echo fighters, maybe Dixie Kong will have a shot. She seemed to be a pretty popular choice regardless of the Echoes or not. Protoman would make the most sense for a Mega Man echo. MMX, Zero, Volnutt, EXE. ect. are better suited mechanically to being unique fighters. Bass or Roll could also take that spot. But in Bass' case, he also has a clear design to borrow from if they take from MMnB and 10, rather than MM7. Probably cause two of them are Mega Man's Shonen Rivals.

Sonic's weird cause you could make a case that Tails, Knuckles or Shadow, could all be an Echo if need be, but they also have such distinct traits and moves that they should lean closer to Ken, or be their own characters to the degree Falco is. Blaze to a lesser degree as well, but I guess that's what happens when you're one of many Shonen Rivals to the main character.

Jin's the best choice for a Kazuya echo, though like Ken he has plenty of his own moves. He also has a similar build. If they change their mind of Heihachi, that's another option. Reina's now a character, who still uses a variant of the Mishima style, but she's got a clearly different build, and probably a little too new. But you could argue that's the advantage of propping up Tekken 8 as a whole.

Street Fighter has some "obvious" choices. Chun-Li is arguably the one of the most iconic characters not in the game at all. And then you got Akuma or Bison, but mostly Akuma. Two iconic bosses, one of which could be another Echo for Ryu. Though instead of Focus attack, give him Demon Flip.

Still if it is or isn't a Deluxe version of Ultimate, I think the biggest change I want to see implemented is a restructured online system. The first Obvious one is rollback. The 2nd is that they should go for something closer to For Fun/For Glory again. It's much catchier and you don't have to worry about playing in different styles of online play randomly.

For single player, I guess a more traditional take on All-Star mode. That'd be the main thing I want.

I don't think it's that much of a crackhead hope that Prime 4 will be like Twilight Princess or BOTW and be on both systems at launch.
